That was about not losing. After that, snatch what you can and we absolutely did. We did. Not Luton, us.

So in addition to the three points picked up away from home against a team we should consider to be one of our lower half rivals, we now aren’t happy because we didn’t play like Real Madrid?

This place just gets more bizarre by the moment….

Well done Burnley, a great 3 points that.

Absolutely a must win game for Luton bring the home team. They threw the kitchen sink at us but we stayed strong and found a moment of quality to win it. We dominated Man United and got nothing.

Be honest, fair play to them but there’s not a cat in hell’s chance that Luton will stay up this season.

That was a dreadful second half from us. The worst I’ve seen us play in a long time.

Some massive weak-willed flappers on this board and they always out themselves on the match day threads.

Even with a hard fought win there are folk complaining. I think expectation levels need to be brought down a notch or two, we are in a relegation fight and we have collected 4 points from the 6 available in the 2 games we have played in our mini relegation league. The negativity on here makes this thread unreadable at times....UTC

Game of two halves but we have the quality and they don’t, they are Wimbledon-esque of old, they shovel it into the areas of the pitch where it becomes a battle, sometimes it is what it is.

A vital moment this because it seems our quality in attacking areas will prove a difference regularly against bottom half clubs, as it does for the top sides. Agree with others though that Cork and possibly Muric would have helped, but Muric isn’t Pope and doesn’t dominate his box in that way either. 8 more wins needed I reckon. 9-9-20 may be enough this season. Hope we get much more of course.

Take our chances and we go in at half time 3-0 comfortable, then second half we did watch was a traditional Burnley premier league performance.
I had been critical of Trafford but minus the first seconds of the game I thought he was excellent tonight.
Cullens best game of the season
Taylor and berge very good
What a turnaround from Fosyer to become such a crucial player, I’m already worried about AFCON in Jan when he will leave us for a month

Great development experience for our classy young squad They can incorporate backs to the wall clearances into their skillset and become better players

Absolutely. Headlining it as "must win" seven games of the season then moaning when we win it.

So happy for Foster. He had such a rough stretch last season, this season he's repaid VK's faith in him.

Vinny looks relieved!

Great, gritty win, we'll need the steel over the season to win those types of games and they won't be pretty. Our players are getting valuable experience with every game played in what is a really tough league.

Credit to the ref as well, no dramas for a change and everything managed well. Long may that continue!

Completely agree, I would hope this was ignorance of the term rather than intentional.

Back to the football…..surprised there’s so much negative feeling tonight, Luton will make life tough for a lot of teams at home, we found a way to win tonight which was all that mattered. We can grow this season, I don’t think Luton have much else apart from what they showed tonight

Got up at 3:20am to watch. Had to cycle to the station just after Luton scored. Was cursing the team and that 2nd half display. Arrived at station to see we'd won! Was fully expecting 2 or 3 one to them. Good win but 2nd half was abysmal. Feel like a beer but will have to wait

Against a bigger team does anyone think they'd have got a penalty?

I think it was a penalty and they were unlucky.

So many wasted opportunities from free-kicks and corners.

That's really not the point. They ought to have scored two or even three from set pieces, but their finishing isn't generally up to PL standard.

Ref and VAR done us a massive favour tonight on that pen, stonewaller. We were a bit hard done to v Forest but up overall in my book.

Massive effort tonight though, great 3 points. Hopefully more Bruun Larsen, Foster and back to what we're good at at the weekend.

Couldn’t agree more. I think a few established prem clubs will come unstuck at Luton. The way they play and the ground/fans will surprise teams and make the game suit their style of play.

Good three points I recon

Sorry, I thought this mini conversation was instigated by a post suggesting we should hire Luton's set piece coach.
No worries, and I'm sure we will improve throughout the season (with our own coaches :D ).

Didn’t think it was an obvious pen. Think he gets the faintest of touches on the ball and it’s probably enough.

That said, if it’s given I’m probably not protesting too wildly either.

How is it a stonewall penalty. It was a perfectly timed tackle and he won the ball. I think some on here are being convinced by the idiots on VAR that every tackle where a player falls over in the box is a panalty.

I would imagine a huge part of Luton’s training and match prep revolves around set pieces. Because that’s their most effective route to score considering what they have at their disposal. Considering what we have at our disposal, I imagine you could have the best set piece coach on the planet, and it wouldn’t make a whole lot of difference. Considering Luton (and indeed Newcastle) were meant to be ruthless on set pieces, and we didn’t concede one, maybe we are much improved on the defending of them?

Though I agree Brownhill on free kicks is baffling…

9-9-20 may be enough this season. Hope we get much more of course.
The last time 9-9-20 wouldn't have been enough was 2016, when Newcastle went down with 37. Every year since, third bottom has got 35 or fewer.

Going back to the game itself and the result, had this been a Championship game last season with both of us near the top I honestly don't think anyone would be moaning.
