Tim Sherwood
Did anyone hear this guy on Optus Sports after our game?
He said that he needed a translator for Foster after his interview and said he had scored his first goal for Burnley and will hope to score many more.
I know he's a pr!ck but what a baffling thing to say.

Re: Tim Sherwood
He said at the start that VK needed to change things and he was by putting Foster in. I don't think he had any idea that Foster had been suspended.

Re: Tim Sherwood
I’d turn over before I listened to him, ever
Re: Tim Sherwood
Don’t like the guy but he was praising us at half time and I don’t think you’ll find anyone of us who watched it who wouldn’t say that we got battered in the second half.
Re: Tim Sherwood
It was the presenter who asked if he needed a translator. All a bit odd.
I thought he was actually quite complimentary about us at half time than made a barbed comment about it being a high quality Championship game just before they broke for adverts.

Re: Tim Sherwood
Also commented at half time that Amdouni needed to score his first prem goal to get his confidence going.
The guy is a clown who is stealing a living.

Re: Tim Sherwood
The presenter was South African, that’s why she asked Sherwood if he wanted a translator.

Amazing to think it was this guy that gave Harry Kane his big chance…
Re: Tim Sherwood
He was massively disrespectful and couldn’t wait to say we lacked quality. How he gets TV work is beyond me.

Re: Tim Sherwood
He described it at half time as 'a championship game, a very good one at that'. He's not wrong really, but its not surprising he makes these comments.
How many of these pundits are full of ego? If they don't want to be summerising the lesser games in the Premier League give the job to someone who does.

They shouldn't be allowed on if they can't be bothered to do their homework. They do nothing else all day so it wouldn't be difficult.

I think the feed was across a few channels. I was watching it on something called “S Sports”, which appeared to be a South African broadcaster given the adverts. I also got the impression the presenter was South African.ClaretAndJew wrote: ↑Tue Oct 03, 2023 10:38 pmDid anyone hear this guy on Optus Sports after our game?

Just looked up Supersport. It is a South African broadcaster.
Who goes on as a pundit for an overseas broadcaster and makes a joke about not being able to understand the accent of one of their own countrymen?

He says things to get attention. Talking of a translator. It’s probably me but I’ve rarely heard anything I can understand coming out of Pep’s mouth.

I was shocked at how little prep he'd done for the match, he clearly had no idea about the players. Just a joke of a man.

Re: Tim Sherwood
Must be horrible for locals to be insulted with this level of broadcasting. Then again, I watched the NFL on ITV on Sunday and they interrupted the game so a presenter who clearly didn't know the sport could interview Troy Deeney so I know how they feel.

Re: Tim Sherwood
Is it any worse than our very own, club employed interviewers who asked VK if he's relieved that Foster scored his first goal in 3 appearances?
I expect people with no connection to our club to make mistakes, but recently the in house coverage of our club has been nothing short of abysmal.

I've heard it several times with Scots, Geordies and scousers when the speaker has a strong accent.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 3:52 amJust looked up Supersport. It is a South African broadcaster.

We've become over-sensitive to this and it's all very humourless.

Re: Tim Sherwood
People like Tim Sherwood are annoying because it seems that no matter how crap they are, they'll always get a good gig. Doesn't matter how poor of a manager he is, somewhere will get him in as a pundit. And it doesn't matter if he's rubbish at that either. He's one of many who don't do enough research, and don't have enough charisma to do the job. But constantly rewarded.

If a top 6 club had scored that winner, Sherwood would be gushing to the hilt about World class moment of magic but because it was Burnley, all he could talk about was Luton's lack of concentration and a need to be more switched on. The man will one day overdose on his own deemed self importance.

Re: Tim Sherwood
Sherwood is awful, not just as a pundit but he also seems like an unpleasant character - based on nothing over then his tv persona that must be said. However the South African presenter did ask if Sherwood wanted her to translate Foster’s interview - which may have been a joke but seemed like an odd thing to ask him and clearly caught him off guard.
I haven’t seen the interview back and wasn’t paying full attention at the time but perhaps he slipped into Afrikaans, which to my ear contains a lot of English or English sounding-words? Just a theory as to why she may have asked Sherwood that question.

I understood Lyle’s interview. It’s the same one the club has posted. Off guard or not it was a pretty disrespectful response.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:01 pmSherwood is awful, not just as a pundit but he also seems like an unpleasant character - based on nothing over then his tv persona that must be said. Re: Tim Sherwood
I lived with a South African mate for a couple of years and when he spoke on the phone to people back in SA he’d often switch between Afrikaans and English and throw odd words in. I was just speculating as to why the presenter would ask Sherwood such a stupid question, and whilst he handled it poorly, he was put in a pretty dreadful position and you could imagine a bigger deal being made of it had it been on a British broadcasting channel.superdimitri wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:38 pmHe spoke English the whole time but I can see some people having difficulty understanding him.

Just said Rovers should have had a goal allowed, despite the Rovers player pretty much booting it out of the goalies hands

Sherwood really is a legend in his own tiny mind. Talks in clichés and is such a smug git.
Clearly doesn't bother doing any basic research, gushes all over the big boys and looks like it's an effort to comment on the rest bless him.
How this joker continues to get these cushy gigs is one of life's great mystery's. The prick of all pricks.
Typical arrogant ex-bturd along with that other skid mark, Sutton.

During his time with the Roverrrs a friend of mine spotted him in a town centre ‘boutique’ creating a stir with a totally disinterested female shop assistant. Evidently an item of clothing he had taken in for alterations had not arrived for collection and he was having a hissy fit at the counter.
Evidently in frustration he shouted at the assistant “do you know who I am?”. Would’ve loved to have witnessed that incident.
He really is hopeless as a pundit but has competition with Lee Hendrie and Michael Dawson alongside him.

I remember seeing him during his first season at Rovers driving round Blackburn Town centre like a proper two hat. He was with a mate in a soft top, with roof down, razzing round with the music blaring.
A few years later, a friend of mine was dating an up and coming Rovers player and she said he was a proper sleaze and had tried it on with her in a club.

Tbh I’ve warmed to savage ever since Sutton was on one of his usual anti dyche/burnley rants on bt sports score and savage interrupted him with ‘what have you got against burnley Chris? Just cos you got a bit of stick when you were pitch side at turf moor the other night (think it was the Aberdeen game). Get over it!’ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 7:29 amThere's a permanent and ferocious battle always going on for the honour of that esteemed title between him, Sutton and Savage.

Re: Tim Sherwood
You've misunderstood my meaning. It's certainly not a particularly funny joke and it's completely unoriginal. That's not the point.dougcollins wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 11:26 amThat's because there really is no humour there.
Schoolboys in the 70s may have found it funny.
The humourlessness I described is that instead of laughing politely at a lame joke intended to grease a social situation, many people seem to excel in being somehow "offended" by the joke.
The joke's not new, but finding it "offensive" is.
It's silly.
BTW I've heard iterations of the same joke many times and I've also heard it used in relation to the Burnley accent.
