Mandela Effect: Mbappe

Post by claptrappers_union » Thu Oct 05, 2023 1:45 pm

I don't follow international football that closely, and I don't watch the Champions League much either. But I saw an Instagram picture of Keiran Trippier looking for his son, who is wearing Mbappes shirt. I thought to myself. 'That was a bit of a low blow, considering he left PSG in the summer...' then I looked at the BBC website - Mbappe played in the game.

Now, I'm sure he fell out with PSG, engineered a move, signed for a club in Saudi Arabia on mental money, had pictures with the shirts with his name and number on, there was an unveiling with a full stadium of supporters, and I swore I saw footage of him in a match running past defenders like they weren't there. I saw it. I saw it. I saw it.

If it was 50/50 on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire for the £1m question - Who does Mbappe play for PSG or 'Al Fackqratariariq' - I'd obviously get it wrong.

I looked at his Wiki, no mention of it at all. Have I slipped into a parallel universe where it didn't happen?

Did Burnley win the league at Ewood Park... that happened, didn't it? I just want to make sure I'm not going that mental, or is it a different player I'm thinking of?

You’ve conflated the rumours about Mbappe possibly moving to Saudi with the actual images of Neymar moving to Saudi by the sounds of it.

I am positive it was announced he had moved as well. For 250+ million, and he was 100% going to sign so obviously when all the media a t like it was a done deal I think a lot of is who don‘t follow European leagues assumed it was done. Then I noticed a few weeks back he was still playing for PSG and went through what the op went through. Had to google it as I though I had gone nuts.
Basically it seems it was the media, BBC, sky et al. spreading sh!t saying he had signed when he wasn‘t even close to!

Was it not him that they accepted a bid for but he wouldn't go? I think he is out of contract at the end of the season and he has told them he will run it down.

I think Mbappe was due a “loyalty” bonus at the end of Aug which he held on for which is why he may not have initially left

I can't remember the PSG bit, but he always definitely wore a monocle.

Saudi club agreed a fee with PSG but Mbappe turned them down, as he was due a £50,000,000 loyalty bonus from PSG the day before deadline day so he received that instead.

In retaliation PSG owner confirmed Mbappe would spend 12 months training on his own and not playing for PSG again as his contracts runs out next summer and is expected he will leave for free to Real Madrid.

Mbappe returned to the PSG squad a few weeks ago with the owner issuing a statement saying Mbappe will sign a new deal with PSG but as of yet no new deal has been signed.

I had a similar thing a year ago. The media wouldn't stop talking about Ange Postecoglou going to Brighton from Celtic, so after a while I zoned out as I thought it was a done deal.

Even after De Zerbi's first few games, I thought Ange was the manager lol

I don't think it helps when the news and different social media outlets Photoshop players in the new respective kits and use headlines to suggest that the move has been agreed on which is then regurgitated - so the same story is appearing in the social media feed and when your scrolling - you just presume.
