Remember the Collins incident, also the Jimmy Hill rant. There was a picture in one of the Monday papers showing Doug with a black eye and swollen face with him asking Hill to "explain this!"
PS I wonder what Jimmy Hill would make of todays antics

Adamson was using the pic to substantiate his story

Quite I don't remember any resolution to the story, perhaps Fleet Street et al didn't want to upset a London club.

Remember this incident very well Tony. Love reading the social commentary on these articles. Interesting to note that BGSOB London branch hosted Bob Lord the day before the game, I wonder who that was?

Always the media darlings, West Ham. And Hill really didn’t like us because of Bob Lord.

I can confirm he had an eye injury, I saw him on the train on the way home.

I remember watching it on match of the day. Collins played on with a swollen eye socket and Jimmy Hill made a prat of himself. Not for the first; remember him blaming a ball boy once for not returning the ball quick enough.
Was a good win though.

Ha ha, no mate.
I always rated Doug, possibly the most overlooked player in that amazing side.

Part of a perfect midfield three with Dobbo (class), Nulty (industry) and Collins (sweet left foot and the play maker)dougcollins wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:30 pmHa ha, no mate.

I was also on the League Liner that day but I can't remember the train being late or travelling to Blackburn on another train to catch it. I know I caught the tube from Euston with a mate who knew his way around the London Underground. We ended up on the side, right on line with Waldron when he scored.
If memory serves he volleyed it in, with the goalie getting a hand to it but unable to keep it out.
