Have we bet the ranch ?
Have we bet the ranch ?
If we get relegated what will our financial position be ? Easy question but a very difficult answer I suspect
Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
The answer is we will sell 1-3 players and be fine.

Think Pace was infatuated with Kompany and has really backed him. Can’t get my head behind the mass recruitment of wide players and goalkeeper though. Just wasn’t needed.

This is why I’m worried more about this season than any other. I just keep telling myself we’ve lost the games we expected to lose. The manner of the defeats I’m trying to ignore.

Same answer as last time I'd have thought if relegation was to happen
Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
We’ve spent a hell of a lot to not strengthen. We do have players to sell though if we go down. We’d also have a good ( but far from guaranteed) chance of coming back up.
Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
8 matches in ... Played City, ,Villa, Utd, Tottenham, Newcastle, Chelsea (teams we rarely get much from) ... we have taken points from Forest and Luton ...
I will reserve judgement for a while yet

If we take 4 points from the 'bottom half teams' over the season and a few points from the top half teams in the second half of the season we'll be more than OK.

Financially we’ll be absolutely fine, as said above we will sell a few and still have a very good, young, talented and probably better balanced squad. Far too soon for relegation talk, long way to go UTC

Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
The concerning question for me is which players would we sell to bridge the financial gap?
Trafford - far from convinced by him and certainly nowhere near my expectations considering how highly rated he was at City.
Beyer - possibly, certainly the pick of our centre backs so far
Al Dakhil - an error per game that leads to us conceding, not sure the queue of suitors would be a long one
Cullen - nowhere near the player he was last season, the step up in skill levels, pace and physicality is one too far for him
Brownhill - OK Championship player
Berge - possibly
Koleosho - raw, pace, obvious talent but has delivered very little
Foster - certainly been the pick of our players so far
Zaroury and Benson - lit up the Championship but have barely featured so far
The rest are either not ours to sell, not seen enough to pass judgement or have little or no resale value - Jay, JBG, Cork etc.

But I expect Koleosho, Foster, Amdouni, maybe Odobert on what I’ve seen, and perhaps Berge too, would all attract bids.
On top of that we’ve just had a £90m cash injection.
Really not an issue at all.

Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
We have a young squad, full of potential etc
They’re catching the eye of other clubs
They’re tied down to decent contracts
They’re not going to be leaving for free or on the cheap
For example, Koleosho has shown he’s got lots of raw talent, pace, lack of fear/respect for who he plays against - if he carries on like this for the season you’d easily get £20 million next summer, The USA coach is trying to tempt him back into the international fold, but Italy will probably want to keep him
Foster - another who’s showing real potential, pace and an eye for goal - again if he carries on £20 million plus
Odebert looks exciting too
Trafford - still young and developing, we’d get back more than we paid for him
Defenders historically fetch less but we’ve got some good young talent back there and they’re going to get good money
The issue is fans on here tend to undervalue the players, for whatever strange reason it is I’ve never worked out, but thankfully they’re not part of the club’s management structure or transfer team
If we went down, we’d be under no pressure to sell and we’d smash the 106 record easily with this squad, it wouldn’t be much effort

Some of the overreactions to recent results on here have been classic. Hopefully we can dust off these threads around April time, but to your point even if we go down I’d be very comfortable.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 1:08 pmThe issue is fans on here tend to undervalue the players, for whatever strange reason it is I’ve never worked out, but thankfully they’re not part of the club’s management structure or transfer team

Even assuming we had to sell the likes of Foster, Koleosho, Amdouni, Tresor, etc if we went down, I still think Odobert, Berge, JBL, Massengo, etc make us a miles stronger than last time we were there. A team with a years PL experience and the benefit of all VK’s training for 1-2 years in the Champ would be incredible to watch if it comes to that.

Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
Have we bet the ranch? Probably not, no. Because the assets we have bought are young, on long contracts and have huge potential. That is vital (irrelevant the secondary argument about whether some experience would have been also good).
Trafford is young and English, as is Ramsey. Both would be likely to stay if relegated unless they have a stormer in which case they would go for tens of millions each. Looking like at least 4 of the forwards would go for at least £20m, the more rounded of those would be Foster, entirely plausible he could be worth £50m in a year.
Then we get assets like Berge who is just a solid international that has a value in excess of £10m, probably more. That’s before we get to Beyer etc.
So no, I think they have invested well, albeit in a lopsided way that makes it hard on the pitch. I also find it unlikely they would sell the club in the next 2 years, because the value to them would be if many of these players develop, which they haven't yet done. So, all good as far as I am concerned.

Only had a year left on his contract I think.
Traffords current value is probably around 500-k to £1m if you were to sell him next week. I’d be amazed if anyone would give over that amount. Ramsey 2-300k , I dread to think how much he has cost , does anyone know?

Re: Have we bet the ranch ?
Be interesting to see how many we could sell into the Prem League from this squad should the worse happen
there are i think six who started the 21-22 campaign with Prem Clubs. plus Cornet who signed I think in Jan 2021 along with
you know who.
The six were Tarks Mee Collins Pope McNeil Wood

If so, unless he gets some game time he'll probably end up going out on loan and leaving for peanuts.

In the summer.
Ramsey will retain his value and if he plays as regular as Trafford he will be worth more than we bought him for.
Suggesting anything else is just nonsense.
I mean less than 1m is literally a joke. We will sell Churlinov for probably triple that and he hasn’t kicked a ball for a year
