Re: Israel
I agree very sad but who can stop it? You have a lot of different factions and governments hell bent on a scrap and as usual the poor civilians get caught in the crossfire. The world is a very dangerous place right now.

No winners in this.
They’re all as bad as each other.

There's a hell of a lot of conflict in the world at the moment, a lot we barely even read about.
Re: Israel
No winners, never is it's the innocents and children who suffer. Israel can never afford to lose a war and what happened in the holocaust is deep in their psychological make up. The Palestinians have legitimate grievances about land loss, really not sure of an answer or if there is one.

There’ll be a lot of billions of tax payers money changing hands in the coming weeks and months under the title of humanitarian aid etc, so there’ll be quite a few gaining from it I suspect.

America after WW2 agreed to provide world security and now it’s pulling back from doing it, hence countries, people feel they can attack without the US getting involved.Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 7:10 pmThere's a hell of a lot of conflict in the world at the moment, a lot we barely even read about.
We may not agree with that but factions across the world are feeling empowered to attack other knowing the US will not get involved.
It’s only going to get worse.

The Zionist element amongst the powers that be certainly have a lot to answer for but anyone that’s being an apologist for what Hamas (who were elected in, in Palestine and are still polled favourably) did over the weekend then they too can rot in hell.
Absolutely barbaric. I don’t know what the answer is but something needs to be done - democratically and involving the global community.

Israel isn't blameless, but murdering hundreds of kids at a dance festive, while taking hundreds more hostage and god knows what, is nothing more than barbarism.

This is a big delusion in many parts of the West.
Only one side is committed to the complete and utter extermination, murder and ethnic cleansing of the other. Only one.

While your point is a reasonable one , who do you think is bankrolling Ukraine ? Immediately offered Israel help? and has sabre rattled around Taiwan , North Korea etc,and spent 20+ yrs in Iraq /Afghanistan .While the US doesn’t particularly want multiple “ physical “ wars ,it’s not adverse in the slightest to mega $ proxy wars . I’ve no dog in this fight , but the US military aparatus is simply gargantuan .Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 7:33 pmAmerica after WW2 agreed to provide world security and now it’s pulling back from doing it, hence countries, people feel they can attack without the US getting involved.

We can agree some of the fights it fought were wrong, but it has secure the seas to be free for trade for everyone, which it’s no longer going to do.

Re: Israel
On Ukraine, just look at the monetary figures. The US has spent less than 5% of its military budget, sending mainly obsolete kit at the modern replacement prices and have reduced the Russian army by 50% ish.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 7:52 pmWhile your point is a reasonable one , who do you think is bankrolling Ukraine ? If big if Russia attacked say Poland it has to put boots on the ground and real Americans would die and go home n body bags.
Way cheaper and politically acceptable than body bags going back to the US.

Israel abstained when it came to the UN motion that condemned Russian aggression.

It's a very complex situation but under no circumstances whatsoever is the slaughter of innocent civillians justified. All lives are sacred. Hopefully 1 day we can see peace in this troubled area.

Got to wonder whether Israel will do something pretty extreme now.
The president comments in the last hour sound like they are going to stop anything like this from happening again.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they totally engulf it - the rhetoric from Bibby and other prominent Israeli Politicians is using words to effectively justify it.

But the Israelis are extremely worried about Hezbollah in the north, who can thrown at Israel x100 what Hamas have.
If Israel commit the bulk of the IDF to Gaza, then it leaves them open to a second front, and even a third if Assad fancies his chances.
A lot of Israel’s enemies will be looking at the next few days as an opportunity they have not had for 50 years.

Of course I want peace in the region but my main fear is potential repercussions felt across Europe again.
We’re already seeing pro-Palestinian demonstrators take to the streets in London and other European countries… the last thing we need is an attempted repeat of 7/7 or the attacks
in Europe we saw as a result of the Arab Spring

Re: Israel
They have periodically closed their border with Gaza over the years, it's not uncommon and whilst the Egyptian population may well have some solidarity with the Palestinians, the Government appear to want to try and broker peace - which is understandable because all hell is potentially about to break loose in its back garden!!!!!!Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 8:21 pmYep i suspect that is highly likely at this point.

The densely populated nature of The Gaza Strip pretty much ensures this is going to be a humanitarian crisis of epic proportions with constant shelling, air-raids and possible ground assaults (although as has been pointed out above, they need to make sure they aren't then shot from behind whilst their backs are turned!)
This could make the US Elections very, very interesting indeed....................

Re: Israel
Israel monitors the Gaza Strip 24/7 with cameras and drones, telephone and internet traffic is under constant surveillance, yet astonishingly Hamas were able to take possession of thousands of rockets and drones and plan a large scale incursion taking Israel and the USA completely by surprise. Notwithstanding electronic surveillance, Israel also has a network of agents and informants on the ground none of whom seemingly had any idea of what was being planned. Israel has always been synonymous with Mossad and the effectiveness of it’s security services.
Some huge questions to be asked and answered by Israel and the USA as to how Hamas managed to acquire such a huge arsenal of weapons, rockets and drones without detection. Seeing Hamas combatants paragliding into Israel seemed the stuff of a far fetched B Movie.

They've been there and got thumped, trying to fight Israel is a big ask I wouldn't wish on anyone.
I get the feeling that people on this board view it as a conflict between Arabs and Jews, which just isn't true. Jews live within Arab and Muslim countries all over North Africa and beyond.
The Israeli/Palestine war is purely one state displacing another. They just happen to be Jews and Muslim split. I have a lot of sympathy for Palestinians, but everytime they commit these acts the sympathy disappears.
