Rate the Ref - Who do you think are currently the best officials?
Not done this in a while and in the absence of Dean, Atkinson, Marriner, Mason, Jones and Moss, it might make it a good conversation.
For reference, here are the current rankings based on our long-running RtR feature…
Please try and keep it sensible, even if you truly believe that we’d be better off being reffed by robots….

Has Andrew Madley never reffed us? I didn't realise that.
It's a tough one to answer this, personally I've tended to like Bobby Madley and also Attwell, despite his famous gaff at Vicarage Road years ago. Attwell on Saturday only got my goat because he was too quick to waft yellow cards about which I always think makes things very difficult, but otherwise I'm not sure he got much wrong and kept control. The ref at Luton on the other hand was absolutely shambolic and looked completely out of his depth (was it Bankes?)

The best we have had this season was Tony Harrington against Manchester United imo.

Not since the 2020/21 season - should have refereed the game at Villa in December 2021 but it was called off about two hours before kick off because a couple of their players had covidCheshireclaret wrote: ↑Mon Oct 09, 2023 8:52 pmHas Andrew Madley never reffed us? I didn't realise that.

Nice to see John Brooks at the top.
I recently saw the Luton - Spurs match on TV and he didn't hesitate to give a second yellow to Bissouma for diving (it was such a blatant dive that not even the pundits could defend it!). Not only that but in added time Spurs were clearly trying to waste time. At one point Hojberg claimed he was injured after being hit in the stomach by a hard shot. Brooks immediately called on the physios and Hojberg then indicated it wasn't necessary, so he told him he had to go off. I thought that was brilliant. Put up with no nonsense.

Taylor has improved immeasurably the last couple of years. Atwell and Tierney are better than most.
I wouldn’t want Jones or Oliver anywhere near our games.

It's no accident Tierney is 4th bottom. He really does come across as someone who'll never do us any favours.

Attwell is the best. One thing I’ve noticed is that when they get FiFa qualified they go away and do European games and Internationals and it completely changes the way they ref. It’s more about management and control and neutralizing the game. And then all those skills and opinions that got them there are gone. Oliver and Taylor when they were up and coming were brilliant. Now it’s an absolute mystery the decisions they make.
