having been a fan of the original i didn't know what to expect in this post curb your enthusiasm comedy landscape.

two episodes in and it seems they should've left it alone.

Frasier is my favourite ever US comedy. There was a trailer for the reboot on YouTube which I saw, which actually didn’t give much of a clue about how the new series would work. The magic of the original series was the ensemble itself. But the ensemble hasn’t been reassembled for various reasons so I have my doubts

When America do good TV, it is brilliant; when they do bad TV….

Seinfeld was a good studio sitcom. Bringing that back as a Curb Your Enthusiasm plot was a great idea.

If it were up to me, I would've brought Fraiser back as a conventional TV show without the studio audience. Have it more of a comedy-drama.

The American "remake" of Only Fools has to be seen to be believed how terrible it is. Unsurprisingly never made it past the pilot.

I used to loved Frasier. For me though, it lost a lot when Daphne and Niles got together. The unrequited love is part of what made their interactions so enjoyable to watch.

Frasier was brilliant - one of the best tv shows in history IMHO. Niles is one of my favourite comedy characters ever.
Not sure I will bother with the new show - especially with most of the original cast not involved. I’d rather watch the repeats - I still enjoy them.
Cheers was fantastic too - such a fantastic cast and the writing was just incredible.

I never really watched Seinfeld - but I am a massive Curb fan. Again I think that’s one of the best and cleverest programmes ever produced.

Americans do these things so well (as do we). One of my guilty pleasures as it’s obviously not as risky as the likes of Curb is ‘Everybody Loves Raymond”. I love this show - the guy who played Frank Barone (Raymond’s dad)….Peter Boyle incidentally played Frankenstein in Young Frankenstein which is my favourite comedy film ever !

Agree that Frasier without Niles does not sound very appealing. Love the original series which had a fantastic group of characters and some brilliant writing based around their various traits.
Re Cheers Channel 4 seem to often have episodes on early in the morning, around 7am, and I sometimes find myself watching one in bed when I put the telly on in the morning. It's an absolute joy ! Everyone Loves Raymond is also often onat a similar time.

2nd episode better than the first, but overall a weak shadow of the original

The characterisations are falling into place - you have:

Frasier's son Freddie essentially playing Frasier's dad, Marty's role

Niles son David playing the Niles role

Nicholas Lyndhurst playing the Ros role

and it appears Eve will be the Daphne role

I don't think it's about subtlety or daft stuff... I think it's an American sitcom wanting five jokes per script page rather than letting the characters develop, laying out the episode plot, developing a story arc over a series and having 1 or 2 good jokes per script page.

Only a few sitcoms can manage to have both... Arrested Development could develop characters, tell a story, have almost every line as a setup, punchline or callback, and even swap them around in writing cleverly. That's the best-written sitcom that's ever been produced.

Like I said when the Americans do TV well... But in general, even the British ones, most sitcoms are crap. My gut tells me this Fraiser one might be crap too.
