Brilliant player for us, used to love watching him. How the hell does he still have as much hair as he did back in the 60/70s :(

He has always sported his signature hairstyle! Agreed, he has a great head of hair for a bloke his age.

Some wonderful memories of a very special player for us.

A sad day when he departed for Man United at the start of the '68/'69 season.

Congratulations on the honour.

Hard to believe it's over 60 years since he made his debut - one special player was Willie, Willie, Willie Morgan on the wing.

AS soon as I saw the thread title and clicked on it, I started singing that to myself- catchy tune.

My version has an extra "Willie" though, not sure which is historically correct.

Yes he was at Windsor Castle, there was something in a localish Berks newspaper about his trip down here to receive his medal. It seems he's a very keen golfer and has organised events to raise lots of dosh for charities- particularly NSPCC.

Logged in just to like this.

Great player with Ralphie on the other wing.

I was there at Ewood, New Year's Day 1966 when Willie got sent off for having a kick at Mike England.
We won 2-0.

Also remember a pinpoint cross for Andy Lochhead to head home v West Ham in the 3rd round FA Cup, only for the Hammers to then take us apart.

Long time ago now.
Happy days.
Sigh.

That's in his second spell at the club which was, I think, blighted by injuries.

Although he played well before my time, I recognised him instantly when he was stood behind me a couple of years back buying a couple of cases of champagne in Tesco in Altrincham. Lovely man.

I can still see him now, shirt outside his shorts, him going one way the defender the other.A cross into the box for big Andy to finish off. He was some player for us, some player.

Had a strange upbringing in that he was brought up by his grandparents believing his mum was either his sister or auntie. His dad was an unknown Italian.

Special player but fell out with Bob Lord. When he came back he said he believed Lord wanted to bury the hatchet but didn’t realise he wanted to bury it in his head.

Probably one of the top two or three players I saw come through our youth system.

How bizarre. Just looked that up online and found this account in The Scotsman:

"This perhaps surprising friendship is the happy consequence of a chance meeting at a golf club in Manchester in the early 1980s. They did not get off to the best of starts. “I told him I was more of an Elvis man,” recalls Morgan. Nevertheless, the relationship has survived intact."

One of my favourite ever clarets. Saw him and Lochead tear Man Utd apart at the Turf. I think it was an Easter weekend and Utd introduced a certain George Best for Man U in the very next match of that Easter and got revenge.
Great as Willie was he had an irritating habit of beating his man and then repeating it a couple more times before crossing the ball.

Always looked forward to seeing him torment defenders. Whenever he got the ball, you could almost feel the excitement building in the crowd. Great player

My favourite ever Burnley player, that performance against Man Utd (Boxing Day 1963) is the best ever performance I have seen by a Burnley player. On another occasion he tore an in his prime Bobby Moore to bits on the Turf. Great memories

Blacklaw, Angus, Elder, O'Neil, Miller, Todd, Morgan, Lochhead, Irvine, Harris, Coates: the best side Willie ever played in. No Manure side finished as high as the Clarets did in 1965-66 when Wille was a Manure player.

It was the 2-0 win on NYD 1966 but it was Coates.

Pretty sure my dad has told me he once bamboozled a fullback and ran up the wing taking the defender with him leaving the ball behind. I’ll check next time I see my dad.
