For a mass supplier of Sausage rolls and other bakes Greggs is a fabulous cheap shop
Lots of excellent small bakeries up and down the country like Oddies which are also excellent

I never understand why people prefer Greggs when there's a local bakery nearby.
Oddies, Mannings, Cissy Greens et al over Greggs every time for me.

Not too fussed about their pies, but I do like Oddies bread, especially their brown teacakes.

I had a lovely meat & potato pie, with a tub of mushy peas, from D T Law's in Hassy t'other day.

We tried to bring Greggs over to Prague once, in around 2016. Trouble was, as we would have been the first central europe franchisees, we would have to commit to supply contracts to such an extent that, along with leases and equipment, we'd have had to commit to circa 1m GBP

So yeah, Belgicka Rohlik it is

Greg’s breakfast deals are spot on for those of us that are out and about working during the week. £2.70 for a brew & bacon/sausage sandwich.

Oddies my preferred place if walking through town though

The price increase at Oddies is staggering, they have doubled in the last 3 years, they run out of filled rolls by 1.30 and can’t make any fresh!

Oddies have started doing breakfast sandwiches now up to 11:00am, don't know the price though.

That definitely settles the (any?) debate. For years when it was my turn to do the shopping I drove past our local Tesco & Sainsbury supermarkets and on for a further two miles to do our weekly shop at Morrisons on the basis that they sold the best doughnuts. Then when Morrisons bought Safeway about twenty years ago the combined operation elected to go with the Safeway rather than Morrison doughnut recipe and theirs were worse than Tesco or Sainsbury's; I doubt I've been weekly shopping in a Morrison's store above a half-dozen times since.

You can get Krispy Kremes at Tesco.

Oddie’s is quality but is expensive. I mourn the fact that they no longer sell sad cakes but their bread is excellent.

Greggs has its place. The pasties and sandwiches are good enough, and reasonably priced.

Oddies is definitely higher quality, usually 'tastier' food.

New Yorker, Pork and Pepper roll, Bilberry Charlotte. The combo of champions, right there. But it costs the same as a used car to buy all three.

I would rather not frequent any Greggs outlet due to
The possibility of a confrontation with other customers who generally look like from a scene from

I too am disappointed Oddies stopped making sad cakes, I mean what do they do with the pastry off cuts now? I also miss the fig squares, but apparently the fig jam is too expensive. They stopped doing a few of their lines during Covid and never brought them back.

I called in to Oddies at Foulridge a couple of weeks ago. 2 pies, 2 sandwiches, 2 flapjacks and a bottle of coke.
“That’s just £18.20” said the lady behind the counter.
Is this new marketing speak to make you think you’re getting a good deal.
I’ve got to say though, the product is great. Better than Greggs any day of the week.

Thanks for that Nori1958. Our local butchers do a few pastries, one of them is current slice which we call “dead fly pie” they are delicious, a good size slice and at a good price. Just need them to do what I call a proper Bavarian Slice ;)

Sadly so many items not made any more- Bury Simnels at Easter, vol au vents, meat paste, chocolate box, pork/ beef patties to name a few from my childhood. Last weekend’s purchase of 4 pies, 2 flapjacks, custard tart and two sandwiches cost £21. Cabbage, I feel your pain!

I regularly get a Corned Beef/Cheese and onion pasty/ Savoury from Oddies. Yes, the prices are a bit steep but you get the quality.

I've not been to Gregg's in decades. There must have been a time in the past where something was wrong. I love the flaky pastry at Oddies but still assume that Gregg's have the stodgy shortcrust stuff ?

Drawer.
Oddies is good stuff but very pricey. I’m another who regrets the discontinuation of sad cakes there. As has been pointed out above Greggs breakfast deals are tremendous value. £3.80 for a large bacon baguette and coffee.
