Away fans that have been to the Emirates this season have all made comment about how much better it is for reasons I've already outlined. Guess everyone is just making it up then.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 4:45 pmDrivel? Sorry but you are being ridiculous. Can you please explain to me how you can possibly know what the atmosphere is like in a ground when you are not there?
Or are we talking about the Turf ?
The place where social media, this site included, is full of people saying how bad the atmosphere is, where the lads I know who go to the games says it's absolute toss (and the said the same quite a lot last season too) - after all, if the atmosphere was good they wouldn't be suggesting the trial of the dreaded drum.
The away fans are class, not sure why it's struggling to be replicated at the Turf, so I'll say the same - instead of having a pop at the club for wanting to try something new maybe people should try and come up with an alternative (that's not a drum!). I've already mentioned the Cardiff game, I know for a fact that they know about the atmosphere that day - it got everyone in the ground involved, a drum won't do that.

Re: Drummers required...DRUMMERS
We all form opinions based on what we see on TV which is usually valid. I've never been to Dortmund but pretty confident the atmosphere is usually very good. Same for an Old Firm derby etc.
What actually constitutes a good atmosphere is where you'll find more nuanced discussion.

Not from what I witnessed but I’m not sure what scarves do to improve the atmosphere during a game. They were just a home crowd making a lot of noise and supporting their team.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:00 pmScarfs and flags, better music choice before and at half time - that's Brentford's secret

Re: Drummers required...DRUMMERS
End of the day everyone’s atmosphere at home is crap with a few exceptions;
You’re a newly promoted team who hasn’t been in the top division for a good few years (us in 2009, leeds, stoke etc) but after after a few seasons the novelty wears off and the atmosphere goes.
Or you’re a big team playing a big game (a derby/glitzy European tie) or challenging for title you haven’t won for a long time (arsenal, Newcastle this season) but when you actually win it the novelty wears off and the atmosphere goes eg Man United/city.
Drum or no drum will not change this.

There's a lot of truth in this and I'll also add that home atmosphere is far better when you're actually scoring and winning. Against both Spurs and Chelsea the ground was rocking when we were playing well, on top, scoring and leading. It's naturally pretty crap when you're 3-1 down! Re: Drummers required...DRUMMERS
The atmosphere on the whole was decent last season but that is to be expected considering our side was so good.
In complete contrast, it is hardly surprising that the atmosphere is so quiet this season, we have taken several humpings against City, Villa, Spurs and Chelsea. The game against Man Utd was okay but too often we aren't creating sustained pressure to get the crowd involved.
The time to judge is when we play 'competitive' fixtures against teams ******* in the same pond as us.

Correct, the biggest myth in world football is the atmosphere at Anfield. On big nights (especially in Europe) it's as good as anywhere in the world but too often for 'run of the mill' games it's flat and as quiet as anywhere else in the league.Lu-tze wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:34 pmEnd of the day everyone’s atmosphere at home is crap with a few exceptions;

No thanks, I don't think teams with drummers do any better than those without, I like to hear the murmur of disapproval when something goes wrong.

Probably one of the only spells we have created was against Chelsea when the game had already gone. We won several corners and although we didn't create clear cut chances, the crowd reacted and upped the volume.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 5:46 pmI said this exact thing to one of the lads who goes, it's the biggest influence on it

The way to get around this is simple. Encourage the drum. Sing along with it. Make it a roaring success. So successful... that it makes people in the Longside lower stand up in front of the posh seats. They'll quickly get rid of it then.

Re: Drummers required...DRUMMERS
A band of drummers would be great. They could beat out the beat to "We are the Longside Burnley." We could all join in with the chant. Some might even keep in time with the drummers.
I'd also get them to beat out a drum roll for key dead ball re-starts, kick off, free kicks, corners - and an extra special one when Burnley get a penalty.
We'd also want a triumphant "rat-a-tat-tat," double time when we score.
If we can get a group of drummers in each of the four corners of the ground the excitement will be tremendous. Maybe there are some drum beats that could sound from one corner to the next with the sound reverberating from corner to corner around the ground.
The drummers could be called the Burnley Beat!
What's not to like.

Re: Drummers required...DRUMMERS
Some low threshold you have
I have two season tickets.
One is for a club here, they have a drummer. It works
One is for Burnley, where the idea of a drummer feels so contrived and forced that it would be anathema to what makes a matchday at th Turf what it is
People should acknowledge when their experience is not based on the same level of exposure as others, and accept that their opinions will be judged as somewhat less well-founded as a result.
I'm baffled as to why this is difficult for some to grasp

That simply isn't the case jedi. At the last home game we were 1-0 up against Chelsea who were starting to get into the game and boss things. It was like a library with the home fans when what was needed was some great vocal support to help and encourage the lads.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 1:52 pm
There is no scientific analysis required for understanding the currently crap atmosphere at home games - it’s because we’ve already grown accustomed to being pummelled heavily and the teams heads are dropping as soon as we concede
Your theory is fine but the reality is different. The cricket field fans are not doing enough to get the ground going( when they are actually watching the match) and excuses about not being able to stand at the back of the Longside lower are exactly that, excuses.
I'm not sure whether I like the idea of one big drum incessantly banging but does anyone know that it will be exactly that ?

Oi !!!!!!
What may help to build the atmosphere is the lowering of the volume of the incessant music before kick off ( not necessarily the team entrance music) and the release from duty of the "on field" announcer over which it is almost impossible to talk to anyone. Again the volume at which this is delivered is totally unnecessary.
In short, keep the decibels down on the pa.

The atmosphere at the Turf is directly propitionate to us attacking at speed with our wingers taking the pxxx and us scoring
Passing back constantly then rolling over after one goal goes in causes mass exodus and a library atmosphere
