Not having a wide open defence and conceding 3+ goals per game would help.

I mean sure we'd all like it to be a bit louder at the Turf but I can't help feeling they're making a bit of a mountain out of a molehill about it. Stay in games and get the ball forward and watch the atmosphere improve.

Also - they're saying pretty please make an atmosphere but don't you dare have the temerity to stand up while doing it!

Feels quite disrespectful to fans and patronising. Give us something to cheer about and they will see a difference. Us fans will be here a long time after the current ownership sells up through the good and the bad.

Good to see the club being transparent and looking for suggestions from the fans.

As a quick fix, I genuinely think music choice and allowing flags could boost morale in the fan base.

Suggestions on how to improve atmosphere

1 - Better defending and organisation because it's lacklustre at best

2 - play the best and strongest team available at all times and stop p1ssing around with starting line up

3 - Give Trafford a rest and play Muric

Results will improve and then the atmosphere will follow, it's not rocket science

I can't tell if you're serious with that quote because it comes from someone who wants flags to help atmosphere

I reckon Vince and/or the senior players have had a word. Young squad, underdogs most games - the crowd behind them might help.

Up to you if you want to stick your bottom lip out and fold your arms until we start winning I guess. You pays your money…

Yes they are and Kompany needs to make changes, he takes all the praise when it's going great and rightly so, he also needs to take the criticism when needed.

To answer your question NO I DON'T WANT a new manager

Or how about fans create an atmosphere and get behind this young team who are clearly pretty shell shocked at this level and learning all the time. What do groans and boos and silence and seeing fans leave after 60 mins do for those players confidence do you think, and the manager who was probably thinking a tough home environment for the away team would really help us get some extra points this season.

Feels like we go ages without a home game so while we're there why don't we just go for it and try to create a decent atmosphere

Personally very pleased the club are:

a) calling this out
b) inviting fans to share their ideas
c) be actively doing what they can to address it

I get the points that the the team have to play their part, and Kompany made that point today, but also don’t want us to be a “sing when you’re winning club”.

At this moment in time, winning is far more important than how we play.

And if we string a few results together regardless of style or how well we try and play, then that will improve the atmosphere because nothing else will.

The way we've been playing I'd happily take "you only sing when you don't concede four goals at home!"

Only issue I’ve got with this is that this should have been the first port of call, not advertising for a frigging drummer.

Yes, winning helps, but support is about win, lose or draw.

I don’t have the answers to solve the issue (and let’s be honest, the atmosphere has been pretty bloody poor) but better to at least try and gather some recommendations.

Agreed but it's not the right time to do it. It feels a bit digg-y. I thought the Brownhill quote from earlier was a bit catty. Something along the lines of 'we'll do well if the supporters stick with us'... Not the first time a player or the manager has made comments about it. Stay in games, win one or two and then we'll talk about improving the atmosphere. Until then it feels a bit divisive and blame-y.

It's not blamey at all, the players are clearly feeling the negativity. They're human after all, why can't we just turn up and do our bit to get behind them, hopefully help give them a bit of confidence then it might follow on the pitch. Sitting there in silence and exasperation while a team half filled with teenagers are getting thumped by Manchester United and Chelsea is not going to help!

I think one important thing has been missed in this debate. We have lost five consecutive home games and played very badly at times. The choice of the fans has been to sit there stunned in silence.

The point is amazingly there has been no booing , no getting at the players , I doubt there are virtually no other fans that would not have had had a go at their players .

The solution , has as already been said on these threads , like last season , when a match is competitive the fans will engage.

Often it only takes takes two competitive challengers to bring the fans alive. The solution is on the pitch.

Strange one isn’t it being a fan

Players on a week what people watching earn in a year and yet there heads drop when they concede a couple as though they’re hard done to and we get the blame for not creating an atmosphere after paying the privilege to watch us capitulate!

I’ve mentioned it before but there’s more to building a team/squad than dropping players in and expecting the same result - especially as an underdog.

Feel that the manager and board have a lot to learn in this regard.

This team is crying out for a Barton or Marney. Someone that can come in an rough up the opposition.

There was a video that went viral on Twitter the other day of the newcastle fans reacting to a strong press with big tackles.

I think a bit of bite from the team instead of rolling over would dramatically improve the atmosphere

Has any other club done this before? If so, I’d be interested to see what the results of the consultation were.
It’s always seemed to me that great atmospheres tend to go along with an element of naughtiness. Daft young lads who’ve had a drink perhaps. Pyrotechnics etc. Certainly the case when you see the ultras abroad.
Football supporting generally has become a little staid. Older, more middle class crowds, sitting down in the same seats every game and getting into trouble if they stand up. I’m not sure you can have it both ways but I’m prepared to be proved wrong.
I agree the acoustics of the Cricketfield need to be utilised. It’s amazing that crowd noise wasn’t considered when they built the newer stands.

My first thought, and I’m not easily ruffled, was “The cheek of it”, then I thought “well it’s true.
And immediately knew the answer as to why it has been so

Don’t continually pick a keeper that’s not ready when you’ve a keeper that is likely more ready

Don’t leave your only left back out, now rectified

Don’t pick a daft team in a daft formation against a team like Aston Villa

Don’t do similar against Spurs

Don’t completely change a winning team against Chelsea

Don’t deflate the fans an hour before kick off when the team sheet comes out and all the fans some with 50 years plus experience and even those with a few years experience knowing it’s not the best line up and or formation and all knowing they’re just the loyal fodder expected to sit through another beating and it seems now are expected to clap and cheer like simpletons

I’m happy that we’re trying to play football but the team selections and tactics are amateurish, so sitting through it without getting angry, complimenting the occasional good play with a clap and clapping the effort at the end is an effort that most fans have managed to their credit

I’ve never booed
I don’t groan
I stay til the end
I go to every away game
I’m currently sitting and intently watching our performances unfold
But I’m irked by seemingly self defeating selections and formations

So no I don’t need to wave a flag, or see them waved, follow the inane beat of a drum or be part of generically formed supporter section

I just need you Burnley FC to pick a team and formation that gives me some hope and ultimately something to spontaneously cheer to that’ll lead to a bit of a sing song

F@cking cheek of it

Aye or dare I say it, a Zaroury, a Tella a… Muric 👀

But definitely someone who battles and gets stuck in.

Team and fans working in harmony is the ideal but realistically it's always been the team that's made the first steps at Burnley. Someone who is neither team nor fan stepping in to say the atmosphere's not good enough isn't going to help.

They’re not ‘just’ saying that the atmosphere isn’t good enough. They’re asking for ideas to help improve it.

That’s a step further forward that advertising for a drummer.

Not sure any of them would make a difference.

I think certain sets of fans react really well to hard challenges and the physical side of the game. I think we are one of them sets of fans.

The physical side of our game has completely disappeared with the likes of cork and Barnes not in the side.

Think it definitely would, Zaroury has a chant that can run for minutes at a time and is genuinely a good young player, Tella was an absolute fan favourite- loved it here and had something different (ran his b0ll0cks off).

Definitely need some added steel though

Strange one isn’t it being a fan

Players on a week what people watching earn in a year and yet there heads drop when they concede a couple as though they’re hard done to and we get the blame for not creating an atmosphere after paying the privilege to watch us capitulate!

I’ve mentioned it before but there’s more to building a team/squad than dropping players in and expecting the same result - especially as an underdog.

Feel that the manager and board have a lot to learn in this regard.
The turnover of players certainly hasn’t helped. I don’t know about others but I find it hard to feel a connection with these players - there’s so many new faces and with all the chopping and changing we hardly get to build an understanding of them. I suppose we were in a similar situation at the beginning of last season yet the atmosphere at Hudds was fantastic so I’m not sure what the difference is this time.

I’ve said the same as Newc93 as well about the team lacking any sort of bite or something that will make the crowd get out of their seats. No shithousery from Barnes, no crunching tackles from Tarks or Mee - there’s something missing. We the fans can help but it also needs to come from the players on the pitch as I’ve not seen any real passion from them this season - that’s not to say I don’t think they’re giving it their all etc - just a lack of connection with the fans.

Don’t mind the email opening up communication with fans. Can find more important things in life to get angry over!

Your last paragraph has nailed it for me.

One of my highlights of Dyches tenure was watching players like Tarks crunch players like Zaha.

We are desperately missing some bite. We have half as many yellow cards as spurs for example

Do find it a bit funny how often Kompany has spoken about making the Turf hell and then his players have played with about as much fire as a soggy sparkler.

I completely agree re:connection between players/fans - mentioned it and the turnover point (and others) before the season started and even after the Villa game (started a thread) and had some agreements but got a lot of pelters for it.

It just doesn’t work, last season was unheard of in rebuilding how we did and being as successful as we were (and we all accepted a rebuild was needed and we’re committed to the process of it), certainly wasn’t needed this season that’s for sure…. You could argue that the success was because we did have a spine of more long standing players that have been through it all with the fans at Burnley.

There is absolutely more to fielding an XI than chucking players that have nice numbers on Opta or look decent in training/train the hardest out there - that’s for certain.

It is something that I think VK (and ALK) has to learn.

It’s about time the fans got behind the team. Been a tough start but you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth. VK delivered us an unforgettable season last year.

people saying it's about results, it's not - it wasn't good in quite a few games last season when we were beating everyone.
From what you saw on tv.

Would love the Turf to become a cauldron, but let's have it right here, when the team we've got is wetter than a reservoir, it ain't going to happen.

It's all just felt a bit weird this season. We came up on a massive high yet it all seems to have been ripped up and we're starting again with no momentum whatsoever.

Hmmm…. not sure only drawing games at the start of last season is the same as being tubbed conceding fours and fives. The problem is the game is usually over by the last quarter, if we were actually still in the game the atmosphere would be better.
