Email regarding drummer survey

Post by bumba » Thu Oct 19, 2023 6:18 pm

Anybody else received this yet?
Club asking for feedback and how to improve the atmosphere on match days as it has 'fell flat'.
Rather strange to put it all on the fans when we're conceding so many and losing so easily at home what do they expect?

Yes responded to say -
No drummer under any circumstances whatsoever
Move the away end
Move the pitch closer to the alongside
Win

Love the email - acknowledgement that the atmosphere has been poor which it has - the reasons for that can be debated but our home atmosphere hasn't been great for a while unless the referee irks us- obviously caught wind that fans don't want a drum - asking for alternative suggestions

I know they have my email as they bombard me with ads, but I never seem to receive these fan consultation ones. Do they just pick a random sample?

I would really like to receive this one.

Didn’t even bother opening the drummer thread. I know what’ll contain.

We’ve gone into every game at home as underdogs and the crowd has been “flat” pretty much from the off and certainly before any opposition goals went in.

If you didn’t like the drummer idea, presumably the survey gives you the chance to help suggest alternatives/better ideas. Don’t moan about not being asked/ideas you don’t like and then moan about being asked for ideas.

Passing around the 18 yard box and back to the keeper sucks the life out of any atmosphere.

Against Utd, their keeper kept the ball for 30 seconds without us trying to press.

Well we'd be pretty quiet if we only sing when we're winning.

Still can't get over the cricket field and other areas being pretty much empty before full time last game, considering the opposition we've faced I cannot get the logic in abandoning our young team.

Get behind the lads, they are struggling, they clearly lose the plot when they concede and I'm pretty sure hearing boos and groans really doesn't help matters. You have free speech yes and you are paying your money, but come on we rely on the intimidating atmosphere to get us a few extra points. Gutted how bad the atmosphere has been.

The keeper dithering on the ball and lofting 20 yard flops out to the full back to be immediately dispossessed is absolutely killing us.

I get the idea of drawing the press but it’d be nice getting on the front foot every now and then - a bit of ‘heavy metal’ football to quote Klopp

Of course you’ll get the odd one but I’d say our fans on the whole are fantastic for not getting on players & managers backs when you compare us to a lot of other clubs

Laws took some stick, Barnsley away was as toxic as it gets.

The suggestions they will get and will have seen on all social media are
Play your best keeper
Play Players in their best positions
Best players on the pitch
Play a sensible formation
Play a strong defensive formation
It was all being suggested after the Aston Villa game and has been after every game since and they haven’t acted

They obviously think a drum, flags, and all razzmatazz paraphernalia will do it
It’s Burnley you’ll get that shoved up your arse - sideways
Just pick a team to compete
Problem for the newcomers at the club is we’re not as thick as we sound and are painted by the media

An insult? Communicating with fans? Be same ones going mental about this who were the ones complaining about zero communication from previous boards.

I suppose the club have to blame something for the horror results we’ve had over recent weeks so they’ve gone for the atmosphere.

Cheaper paying for a drum and hoping that works rather than pay Vincent out for the remainder of his contract.

There’s an obvious suggestion that the lack of atmosphere is a lack of support and has let the manager and his players down and contributed to poor performances and results

Reality is almost unbelievably bad selections and formations and making the same mistake time and time again expecting a different outcome have stunned the fans into a bewildered quiet state

We came up absolutely flying atmosphere was good, playing good football with exciting young players.
All we had to do was keep the majority of the team together and add a few additions, by all means sign your young Koleosho/Trafford type players but sit them on the bench to start and keep the team settled.
The expectation was we'd come up and do well but we ripped the team, instantly dropped fan favourites and replaced them with players out of form or not yet ready and its resulting in a poor atmosphere to match terrible performances.
What did the club expect? The zapped all.the momentum during the the first weeks fans are bewildered

It really is this simple. Mind boggling tbh.

I mean christ we beat a title winning United team on that wave back in 2009 with players nowhere near (no disrespect) with the ability of the lads we have now.

It’s something you can’t quantify but it’s real.

I used the word bewildered in one of my posts and I think it’s apt to the situation and when you’re bewildered you’re probably likely to be a tad pensive and on the quiet side

This is a really good point because the big six are adept, learned over many years, at killing the atmosphere away by doing these antics. They wanted us to press of course, to play around us into space, and we refused to fall for it, but it had the spin off benefit for United of killing the crowd.

Not sure our owners grasp football well enough yet to see this, and how it may be different in other games.

To get back on topic though, getting far more of the CFS is the key, not a half empty half stand.

I think it's about as obvious as it gets to be honest. The wording is very specific. "At the end of last season Vincent Kompany asked the fans to make Turf Moor a Fortress" - This establishes who the club holds responsible for wether or not the Turf is considered a fortress. Aka the fans.

The next line is: "Despite this, most supporters would agree that the atmosphere has fallen flat this season". This establishes that despite being asked, the fans have not managed to deliver what has Kompany asked of them.

It's also interesting that they use Kompany specifically and they clearly only do so to make it seem like the manager has been failed in some way. Whoever has put these posts out and the tweet from that fan director doesn't seem to understand fan engagement at all, in this type of scenario you'd want to be pushing out a positive message, not risking alienating your fan base.

The rest of it just annoys me, they've had plenty of suggestions and feedback but they turn a blind eye and act like they've never been told there's a problem. It reminds me of those Buisness owners you meet that doesn't seem to think there's a problem until you're walking out the door and then it's the first he's heard of it and would love to know what you think. But first he offers to put a drum in your office.
