Did you meet your partner through football?

Post by Hipper » Fri Oct 27, 2023 4:15 pm

'Ipswich couple who met as pen pals celebrate 50th anniversary'

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-suffolk-67232528

The article doesn't say if he supported any particular team.

Nope. Her and footy had a brief dalliance (Stockport away) but after they attacked our coach outside a pub, she decided to leave it…. Always had a soft spot for Stockport since then….🤔😉🤣👍🏻

No, thank goodness as I would have to have been at ewood park.

Fortunately in almost 50 years football hasn't come between us, and children all grew up Burnley fans

My missus left me because I was obsessed with football. We'd only been married 2 seasons.

Quite simply, yes.

Long story but I travelled to away games with a group of people, one of which was partners with a colleague of my now wife.

She match-made us and after a lot of texting snd emailing we met and got together in April 2009. We’ve been happily married since August 2014.

For a number of reasons, we lost touch around the time of our marriage and I would always want this very special person to know just how truly grateful I am for her trying to put me and Mrs jdrobbo together. I will always be eternally grateful and would love to meet up if she ever sees this and would like to do so. I will never ever forget what she started for me xx

Ps…my wife hates football but without it, we wouldn’t be together.

Great story.

We were courting so 1986/7 and we played a friendly in the deep mid winter. Took her on, complained about how cold it was offered her the busfare home.

She went to 3 wembley games.

Then West Ham away at the new stadium where she said "im never going on football again with you".

Then last season she did one home game and really enjoyed it.

No, not me.
But on 20th April 1994 when we beat Wimbledon 2-0 on the Turf, my then 16 yr old daughter (and my two sons) was with me.
Little did we know that the bloke she was destined to marry 17 yrs later was in the cricket field end supporting his team.

My wife fell for me when she heard me singing "Burnley is full of tits, fanny and Clarets"

We didn't meet through football, but I do consider my biggest (only?) contribution to a better world has been in converting her from Leeds Unitedism to the one true religion.
