Strongest 11 right now

Post by bumba » Tue Oct 31, 2023 7:42 pm

What's people's strongest 11 right now from what we've seen?
Formation and players,
For me.....
Muric
Roberts Beyer Ekdal Taylor

Cullen Brownhill

Berge

Bruun Larrson Redmond
Foster

4-2-3-1

Keep it tight
Amdouni for Berge if we need creativity
Koleosho for Redmond when full backs tired
Benson for Bruun Larsson if chasing the game

I'd agree about the back four although I'd have Ekdal on the right and Beyer on the left of CB.
I think the new signings still have something to prove before I'd put them as our best eleven over Benson and Zaroury on the wings too, if we're talking fully fit.

That looks about right to me.

Possibly with AAD instead of Ekdal, if he has confidence.
Perhaps Benson for Redmond, if he ever gets fit.

Yeah that’s a brilliant line up. 12 players should edge it over the 11 of the opposition. 🤣

You an accountant?

This is where someone pulls Bobinho up, points out there are only 11 players and he claims a ‘wooooosh”.

That team could well be our best 11, but in your title you say "now"
Do you really think that playing an injured centre back pairing is the answer?
And therein lies one of the main reason's why we are struggling. We are playing with 2 very inexperienced centre backs, and most teams in the lower end of the division would struggle with this situation.
A fully fit Ekdal and Beyer would make a massive difference, not just because they are more solid defenders, but they are both good on the ball too.

I'm meaning if everybody is fit and available, not about the form we are in or the problems we currently have.
Just interested in people's views on the strongest 11

Foster up front + 10 others.

With hindsight, it’s turning out to have been a disastrous summer transfer window. £100m spent and none of our needs addressed.

Yes, but you said "right now" and the manager can't pick his 3 best players at present due to injury. All of whom are in your team, and would be in everybody's if fit.
Just look how City went on without one key player Rodri. [That's all I'm saying]

-----------------------------------Muric
---------Roberts -------- Ekdal ------ Beyer -------- Taylor
-------------------Berge Brownhill Gudmundsson
Benson/Brun Larsen --------------------- Koleosho/Brun Larsen
---------------------------------Foster

Style overhaul. Defend more compact. Go with counter attacking and fast breaks over "55% possession do nothing". Fullbacks playing more orthodox Roberts only inverting on occasion. Cullen is struggling at this level, gives our CM proven PL experience as well as the legs and technical ability to play out of trouble. Benson is our most direct goal threat after Foster, Larsen most rounded winger, Koleosho has the pace and dribbling to pose a break option, but really we'd have done with Tella as one of the two.
Trafford could play this system but I'd pick Muric just to improve our own half ball retention and buildup, if we're more counter attacking we'll have fewer opportunities to attack so would need to make sure they count and not squander the ball in or buildup.
Go faster and more direct- not long balls to a big man just more aimed at getting towards goal and shooting when we can rather than overplaying for the perfect chance, Ekdal has the defence splitters in him, and with an extra man in CM Beyer is less exposed and has more layoff options when he drives forward.
Amdouni and Redmond as the priority bench options to shift to 4231 from last season with Gudmundsson and either winger being provisionally earmarked for the sub.

Beyer has played in over half the games this season.

Ekdal never plays regardless.

Foster only a handful of games.

Surprised you didn’t mention Benson. Who is IMO our actual best player

See today's thread : "Muric Beyer Ekdal" if you want so see a range of opinions as to why these 3 would currently be crucial to us

Comparing Rodri to anybody in this current squad is insulting to the world's best holding midfielder

Yes, obviously, but as you know, my point is that any team -even Man City - can struggle if they re missing their best players.

Do you think our defence and results would improve if we had either or both of Beyer and Ekdal at centre back?
You answered this in your OP when you included them in our strongest 11.
Kompany can't pick them whilst injured though, which is my point.

I'm basing it on everybody being fit, if I asked you to pick the top 10 greatest footballers of all time you wouldn't pick them based on their current fitness levels would you?
With Muric Beyer and Ekdal I think we'd have seen better results
