Everton match thread
Re: Everton match thread
I've been absent recently. We will win this one. UTC
Re: Everton match thread
Impressed with Berge tonight. Dominated midfield. Take Tresor off and play a speedy winger. Take your pick. Muric gives defense confidence he’s like an extra defender. Overall we have played some pretty stuff but never remotely looked like scoring. Been more like a friendly than a cup tie so far. Think Everton will step it up second half
Re: Everton match thread
Everton will up their game 2nd half
Hope we can

Re: Everton match thread
Trafford wouldn’t have been dumb enough to come for that cross. We look loads better passing out from the back though - much faster snd sharper
Re: Everton match thread
Some fair points on JBL/Tresor but I’m talking creativity, neither have created a chance yet.jedi_master wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 8:44 pmStrongly agree with….half of this!
Tresor and JBL have been decent for me - easily Tresor’s best game so far. Not everything or even the majority of things have come off for him but he’s been constantly involved at least. JBL has got round the back a few times and been very busy.
Can’t agree on Amdouni instead of Redmond either, personally. Amdouni has been awful for weeks whether in the ten or through the middle, Redmond has been very bright tonight. I think if Beyer, Ekdal and Foster were in this side you’d be looking at our best eleven.
Hugely impressed with Delcroix, and Vitinho has been surprisingly good too.
Amdouni has not played in the role Redmond is tonight (part of a front 2) all season. I think he would thrive in this role alongside Foster.
Delcroix is a far more technically capable player than Taylor and if there are calls for Muric to start for our playing out game, then there should be some for him too!

What reception have our fans given SD?

Re: Everton match thread
Not sure how you can blame him for the goal, unmarked 6-8 yard header into the corner. Diving for it just is for show at that point.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 8:39 pmWe look far better playing out with Muric but his attempt for the goal and the cross show why Trafford starts
He flapped the cross but Trafford's done that a few times himself, and he had a teammate get in his way too. Trafford is definitely a solid shot stopper but he has positional questions for long shots and corners and Murics composure has let us build play from our half so much better. Everton haven't tested enough to say if he's as good at shot stopping yet but if we want to be a slow build, possession and passing, attack minded team we need a keeper who does what he does- everyone said last year how Pope wouldn't work as well in this system and even if Pope's the far better keeper I was inclined to agree. Trafford's attributes are lent to a more compact direct and counter attacking team which we aren't trying and not sure have the personnel for.
It's the same reason in reverse why I don't think Cork's our midfield answer. He's composed, he's experienced,he reads the game well, but whether it's a 4231 or 433, or system needs the midfielders to be a lot more mobile and dynamic than he is. Gudmundsson might not exactly be Kante but he's got more legs than Cork now, Jack was getting run ragged and resorting to tactical stopper bookings loads in the Championship he would be outran by every Prem midfielder. As the deepest midfielder in a compact counter attacking 433 or 451 he might be up to it still but again, not our system

Re: Everton match thread
Much better first half performance than of late. Some of the football was reminiscent of last season, with Muric, Berge, Laarsen and Delcroix all playing well. I feel much safer and relaxed with Muric in goal, whilst Berge has looked like a PL midfielder. We can get a result here.

Re: Everton match thread
You’ll never agree. But you’re wrong. Anyone who’s ever played at a half decent level can see how much faster his decision making is, and that he doesn’t have to take 2 touches before deciding which pass to play. We are so much more fluid with him in the team than with Trafford right now.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 8:39 pmNot sure I agree regarding Muric
Think it’s more to do with how Everton are set up.
They are doing what Burnley did under Dyche. They are letting us have the ball in areas where we can’t hurt them. Then playing in transitions to counter us.
The defence are struggling like hell with directness.

Want to see if Tresor can offer anymore on his more natural left side. He isn't doing too much so far.

AAD weak as **** to concede the corner and they score from it. AWOL defending but looked like Muric was being held on the line.

Re: Everton match thread
Truely awful defending
Re: Everton match thread
Weak as **** defensively.
Re: Everton match thread
We're all sorts of horrendous. All over the pitch from front to back, from left to right. And particularly defending and attacking set pieces. We've been better tonight but it really is the faintest of praise.
Re: Everton match thread
It'll be alright once the lads have had their 100th coaching session.
