Everton match thread
Re: Everton match thread
I'll just be intrigued to see how we fare without Cullen on Sat when he's suspended.
Re: Everton match thread
Everton just hitting hit long against a non existent defense Easy for Sean. VK looking more and more despondent. Think he is realizing he has screwed up

Re: Everton match thread
Also, it's not the first it has happened. Against Spurs didn't we have Vitihno marking someone like Dier at the backpost leading to to a simple head back across goal for an easy tap in?

Re: Everton match thread
Zonal marking is just crap. You have to back your best headers against theirs.burnleymik wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:05 pmI know we zonal mark, but we know what the Everton tactic would be from set pieces. It's insane to have Cullen being the man to cover that back stick area when we know exactly what the plan is.
The only people that should be in ‘zone’ are front/back post or someone outside the area

If he is suspended for Sat he shouldn't be on the pitchJacob Rees Dogg wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:04 pmToo small, too light, too slow, too weak.
The Prem is brutal, sadly he is not up to it.

Tresor has been poor all round. He just doesn't look like he has the fight in him that we are going to need. His set pieces have been poor too.

Can't help thinking that Redmond and Townsend would have made a difference.

Re: Everton match thread
You cant blame Cullen for being outjumped, but the set piece coach needs to have a proper talking too, and VK needs one too from Pace. Even Alan will know Tarks is Everton's main weapon at set pieces

I know what you mean. I feel like he needs/thinks he has an extra second or two on the ball in tight areas, and the opposition at this level are just that bit quickerspt_claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:04 pmWas worried about this in the summer and said it a couple times now he reminds me of David Jones just with a bit more pressing. One of the worst centre half performances I’ve seen for us. DCL has absolutely battered both of them

Re: Everton match thread
Zonal marking is great when you're the bully team. You need bigger, faster, more experienced/naturally savvy lads for it to work. Kompany seems like he's a bit stuck in the City mindset honestly, we were the bullies most of the time last year, less so this year.
Cork would be run ragged by everyone in this setup he hasn't the legs for anything other than a static sitting DM with two runners just in front. I can't understand not trying Massengo personally.

Desperate pair.
Re: Everton match thread
That was close! O'Shea to save the day
Re: Everton match thread
Larsen certainly got lost as the game went on
Re: Everton match thread
Thought Tresor has done okay. Not sure why folk seem to be digging him out. Redmond was more wasteful than him tonight. Would still like to see him on the left.

There has been lot of positives from this side .. but highlighted we are naive in defence even with Muric in nets

The first 11 done mikes better than we have seen lately and absolutely more intent and forward passing and movement

Still never been a fan of it. Easy way to get someone to run on to a header challenged only by static defenders.
Agreed, I’d like to see Massengo in there with Berge
Re: Everton match thread
Tresor is twinkletoed but too lightweight.

Sounds like Cullen as wellspt_claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:10 pm

Re: Everton match thread
We’ve been appalling all over the pitch all season. Nothing improves from game to game. Not surprising at all. I expect a defeat very game. We are just so weak.

Re: Everton match thread
Can't agree. Tresor had one bright moment but otherwise lost the ball a lot, Redmond or Larsen looked the best of a poor front four to me, Larsen was quieter than previous games, faded and patchy but not sure the lefts his best position.

Big Beto on. God help us!
Re: Everton match thread
Cullen hasn't got anywhere near the credit in the bank that David Jones accrued. He was great for us. And he wasn't short or weak, although far from speedy.spt_claret wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 9:04 pmWas worried about this in the summer and said it a couple times now he reminds me of David Jones just with a bit more pressing. Vitinho. Got to be the least Brazilian Brazilian we could've found. Wouldn't mind but he can't defend either. Less Copacabana, more Co-Op.
