Strange to boo a player we got 20m for which helped us find a championship winning team

Re: McNeil booing
If fans are upset about our young players leaving for bigger clubs and more money I've got some bad news for them about ALK's business model.
Proper cringey booing McNeil and don't blame him at all for giving some back.

He got booed. He set up a goal. Who cares?

Re: McNeil booing
Let’s be clear there was about 50 brain dead lads booing him (tops) and most were asking why the hell you’d boo him.
he then sets up the goal and turns to goad the Burnley fans as a result (stupid but let’s be honest, he’s hardly the brightest of lads)
That caused the boos to then increase
I couldn’t care less but just wish folk would realise that some players thrive on that, as he showed.

those who booed Mcneil should hang your heads in shame and keep off the Turf your a disgrace to our club this young man was just starting out with us and when he was sold we got decent money for him.

Historically, when we boo a player, he either scores or plays well (or both) against us....

I asked a lad why he was booing him and he replied cos he left when we went sh!t. He didn't want to know that he didn't want to leave and the money we got for him bought 4 or 5 of the team that romped to 101 points last season. He thought he was in the right when others started booing him. I do wonder sometimes how many brain cells some of our fans have.

Was far more than 50. We had just under 3000 there tonight. The number far closer to 1000 booing. That's quite a lot of morons to all be in one place in my view.

Yet Tarks gets a great round of applause at the end, strange group some of our fans. Although most of the boo'ers cleared off after the third.

I would agree over 50, but no where near 1000.
No one anywhere near me was booing him.

You believe he didn't want a substantial chunk of a signing on fee & to improve his weekly wage & to play at a higher level I'm sorry that's crazy, in fairness he didn't agitate for a move & did his best whilst here & on that basis didn't deserve to be booed.

He was booed when he played for us,so hardly surprising he got booed as a Everton player.Maybe we should have clapped his every touch, and booed our players
Re: McNeil booing
I was told the same by someone quite close to Dwight, but the club needed the revenue. He is also regularly attending matches at the Turf. I am at a loss and ashamed as to why our fans would treat him that way.

Already posted the reason , a lack of effort in his last 12 months, I would think.
Tarkowski didn’t get booed as he always put 100% in .
Re: McNeil booing
Probably a bit of a sheep mentality as well, once a few start some people will just follow, particularly with the younger lot.

Re: McNeil booing
Football is all about rapport and affinity. It's completely embarrassing when a young man who has given his all for us, and still obviously has quite a lot of affection for Burnley (attending games etc) is booed. Why would other young players want to come to Burnley? We have some idiot fans, I'm afraid. I found myself cringing when Nathan Collins was also booed when he walked past the away fans at Brentford the other week. I've been watching the Clarets for nearly 50 years and love it, including hostile atmospheres. But when somebody like Dwight is treated like that I wonder why I bother.

Re: McNeil booing
Quite a lot of morons present last night, maybe this issue is more clear when away tickets go straight to open sale.
A group of dicks booing him and shouting w***er at him responded with "Tarks is a top lad" when asked why it was just Dwight and not Tarks.

Re: McNeil booing
The reason I didn't go last night was that I knew that there would be childish cheers every time muric touched the ball, and I didn't want to be sat near those children, little did I know I would also possibly have been sat near a moron booing McNeilClaret Till I Die wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 12:08 amI asked a lad why he was booing him and he replied cos he left when we went sh!t. Me neither bar a couple of idiots. For what it’s worth I’d say there was minimal booing (maybe 100 people) until Dwight celebrated the goal then maybe something closer to 500 .Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 1:15 amWere you there??

Think in home game,he should get booed every touch, get someone to clatter him early on and test his temperament, could see red.Or maybe we could organise players to give him a guard of honour when he comes out.

Re: McNeil booing
I totally understand booing Dwight
Unlike Tarks who gave 100% every match to help us stay up ,Dwight put on a series of disinterested cba performances that hardly endeared him to Burnley fans
If he applied the effort he is showing now at Everton maybe we would have avoided the drop.

Re: McNeil booing
A few people booed him.
Some West Ham fans booed Declan Rice.
Tarks came over and clapped the fans at the start of the second half.
Both Tarks and Dwight were brilliant for us. They were probably our 2 most important players over 3 or 4 years in keeping the club in the premier league.
Both would walk into our team but as will always be the case when Burnley have very good players they will end up with bigger clubs than us.
That probably means that anybody who plays and does well for Burnley is going to end up at another team and will be booed by a small minority of our fans.
I suppose it’s a distraction for some of ours fans from how sh-ite we were.

Re: McNeil booing
Said it before and I’ll say it again, a large portion of Burnley fans are bellends.
Re: McNeil booing
Not all those who attended last night were booing. In fact, the majority probably weren't.
I still cannot work out why he was subject to this. If it was because he had a relatively poor last season for us, then he wasn't the only one, as we were relegated.
