Team v Palace

Post by RVclaret » Thu Nov 02, 2023 8:21 am

Well, here we go again

—————————Muric
Roberts——AAD——O’Shea——Delcroix
JBG———--Berge——Cork———-Tresor
——————Brownhill—————
———————————Foster

Same shape as last night but with Brownhill (for pressing purposes) and Foster (obvious) replacing the front 2.

With it being a 4-4-2 I’d stick with Tresor but from (his preferred) the left. Muric has to stay in for me and my perhaps, controversial pick, is Delcroix for Taylor, as he suits our style more.

Goes without saying but stick Ekdal and Beyer at cb and that teams looks way more solid.

Muric

Roberts Beyer Delacroix Taylor

Cullen Cork

JBL Brownhill Koleosho

Foster

Muric HAS to start against palace, we instantly looked more comfortable when he was playing. We need to introduce more players that we’re playing last season.

O'Shea and Al Dakil are basically small boys learning to play in the real big boys league. I'm suspecting VK never really expected them to be in the firing line week in week out, but with Beyer and Ekdal out he's been forced to put them there. Unless he can get the two more experienced players back soon the two young lads will have absolutely no confidence left whatsoever, because every game it's clear that (for now) they really aren't good enough.
The rest of the team selected becomes largely irrelevant because we're always going to ship three goals (give or take) meaning another regulation loss.

Roberts, O’Shea, Taylor, Delcroix
Cork, Cullen, Berge
Larsen Foster Redmond

Honestly I would just sit all eleven men behind the ball and pray for a clean sheet

Forgot Cullen can't play. I'll go for Cork in there instead. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of Massengo soon though. Might give us a bit more presence in the middle of the park.

Not sure about Cork and Berge- I worry about their agility. The alternative would be to bring JBG in to play 10 (he has an edge) and drop Brownhill back.

Deliberately, tonnes of experience in the team. If Foster isn't fit, I'd bring Zaroury in on the left and play Redmond at centre forward ( pretty sure he did it for Southampton).

Muric has to start .. it’s apparent his fast distribution and awareness might be a big contributor in why we need him .. It’s not working is it at the minute VK so we have to change something not we might not get another point in this league .

Muric (this shouldn't even be a question)
Roberts Al Dakhil Delcroix Taylor
Cork Brownhill
JBG Berge Redmond
Foster

Don't like that defence but struggling for any alternative with Ekdal and Beyer both out.

I a really think if at 2pm on Saturday if we see Trafford and al-dakhil out the starting 11 that would give the fans a boost, as bad as it sounds singling players out, they are the 2 which most need taking out the firing line

Trafford
Roberts. O’Shea. Beyer (if fit)/AAD. Delcroix. Taylor
Brownhill. Cork. Berge
Foster. Amdouni

I know that this team isn’t going to happen and that none of our many wing options would be on the pitch, but I genuinely think we have got to try to tighten up at the back and with Beyer and Ekdal injured, I don’t think the other two of AAD and O’Shea can play as a two at present. Could one or two of our wingers be used as wingbacks to give us a bit more going forward…….? JBL maybe?

Regarding injuries, will Foster be fit?

How far off are Beyer and Ekdal?

If Trafford starts on saturday, I'll really begin to start questioning VK's ability to adapt and change.

Nothing against the lad, but he's not what we need right now.

Muric

Roberts O'Shea Delcroix Taylor

Cork Brownhill

JBG Berge Amdouni

Foster

No out and out wingers atm. We need to be in games in the last quarter. We can go for it then.

Legs gone or not. Cork has to play on Saturday. We need experience and defensive nous. We also need height. My team has 6 six-footers excluding Muric.

I’m starting to think it doesn’t matter who gets picked. Palace are a much stronger side. Usually positive but given how easy we’re being rolled over I don’t hold much hope.

THB & Muric's long, direct passes to the wings last season were brilliant at catching teams out. Even if it didn't end in a goal, it got us right into their half with the ball.

I wonder if Muric could start to pick out Tresor, his 1st touch looks top drawer.

Zeki playing off Foster would also thrive on direct Muric balls.

I see hope for the future...

Muric
Roberts Oshea Taylor Delcroix
Cork Brownhill
Koleosho Berge Zaroury
Foster

O’Shea Taylor partnership changes if either Ekdal or Beyer are fit. But AAD needs a rest for me. Delcroix didn’t look too bad last night and had a bit of pace to show against Harrison.

Have to give Cork a chance in the middle, at least win some headers and then have Brownhill sniffing around with his energy to pick up the pieces.

Koleosho on the right, granted not as effective as the left, but he’s probably the only direct winger we have atm and against Tyrick Mitchell we need pace. Zaroury in the left as I feel against Ward/Clyne, he has the beating of them, also offers enough defensively if needs be.

Berge in his best position getting up to support Foster.

Foster HAS to play if we get anything from this game, he’s the only player in our entire squad who gave Guehi and Anderson something to think about. Amdouni, Jay or anyone else give them the easiest game of the season they’ll have.

Keep the game tight, win individual battles, if we get a goal or two, there’s enough experience and Know-how in that lineup to get something. If we’re losing, there’s plenty of impact players we could fill the bench with to change the game.

VK has said numerous times about sticking to what he believes, making numerous changes to the style and personnel, for that not to work and revert back etc etc. to me it’s simple. Play your strongest players in each position and get some stability in the squad. Every single game there’s changes to the starting 11. He needs to swallow his pride and accept that we need to change something else.

I am amazed how bad a Vincent Kompany defense has been. You would think he should know how to buy top defenders and then set them up in a solid formation. We have to stop conceding simple goals. Clearly some of our defenders are simply not Prem standard. Tarps was literally head and shoulders better last night.

Muric without a doubt
Roberts as a pure defensive rb
Beyer if fit
Taylor if no Ekdal
Delcroix or Taylor

Cork Brownhill ( defensive midfield )

JGB Berge Larsen

Foster

Might get a point or nick a win with theat team focused on defense. Then build from there

I’m surprised how many folk are putting Berge into a position (10) he’s not played all season. Particularly after just shining in a deeper, double pivot role last night.

Any side on a bad run would see playing us as a great opportunity to end it. Bournemouth hadn’t won a game until they played us. Saying that, you’d think something would go for us at some point. Fingers crossed.

Cork wouldn't have been in my starting XI when the season kicked off as I felt we were heading in a much younger, more dynamic direction, but I'd have him first on the team sheet Saturday the way things have gone. It's crying out every week for experience, know how and leadership and despite his ageing legs, he's clearly fit enough for the bench so get him in the team. He can't do any worse!!

I genuinely don't know what we do on Saturday. We can't set up the same again surely? We'll get rolled over in the first 30 minutes. Part of me thinks we should try 3x CBs but given who those three are likely to be it could end up being even more of a car crash! Theother part of me thinks we need to rest AAD for his own good, but that leaves us with O'Shea and Delcroix and their performance in the 2nd half vs Chelsea was absolutely frightening so I'm at a loss, I really am. 4-4-1-1 maybe?

Nobody really has any idea re the injury situation. Beyer? Foster? Ekdal? Benson? to name but a few. Therefore us picking a team is basically impossible.

- - - - - - - - - -Muric
Roberts - O'Shea - Beyer - Taylor
- - - - - Brownhill - Cork
JBG -- - - - - Berge - - - - Zaroury
- - - - - - - - - Foster

Muric back in. It's time. More experienced that Trafford, more self assured etc

Cullen Suspension is a nice way to get Cork and his vast experience at this level into the team. Brownhill and he resume a long standing partnership and understanding of playing alongside each other.

Berge just in front to support/conduct the attacks but also provide a bit of physicality too. Experienced in the prem also.

When fit JBG is one of the more intelligent players in the squad & adds experience and more balance between attack & defend duties. If not JBG then Brun Larsen.

Zarorury starts. The new wingers have not done enough so far to warrant anything but 15-20 mins at the end of games from the bench. Zaroury deserves a proper chance given his outstanding contribution last season. Yes it was in the championship, but Koleosho, Odabert, Tresor et al were playing at similar/lesser levels than this last season and many seem okay to have them in the team without questioning the level they were playing at last season.

foster = Only choice really, but if he's not fit then Jay.

I’m surprised how many folk are putting Berge into a position (10) he’s not played all season. Particularly after just shining in a deeper, double pivot role last night.
Everton didn’t press anything like I’d expect palace or any other teams to do against us given how easy it’s been to rob us of possession , Berge will struggle again with a higher tougher press. Hope I’m wrong because our other options can’t do it either in this way if playing , and that doesn’t look as if it will change at all so hopefully something will give and VK adapts sharpish

It's less a 10 and just the more advanced of a 3 man midfield for me. I would prefer Berge as a "10" though than playing Amdouni as a real 10 who basically drops into the midfield to create a 3 but offers little defensively.

Myth.

The pressed just the same as any other team (bar United more than & City less than)

The difference is we passed it about better and opened up more lanes with a keeper that has much better vision and ability with the ball.

Did it translate to better chances? No - they stifled us in their 1/3rd of the pitch.

Did it mean we could for once move the ball better? Yes, no doubt about that
