Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
I am convinced he showed 2 yellow cards at H/T. One for Lerma and one for Guehi. Then he booked Lerma in the 2nd half. He defo flashed 2 yellow cards at H/T

Can’t blame the ref. Only complaint was added time, but we could have played until Tuesday and wouldn’t have scored.

Very blatant red card foul on Trafford and very weak on timewasting.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
I thought he was very good.
The yellow on Trafford was borderline. Far more dangerous than the Zaroury red but less likely to be a red. VAR agreed. It could have been given but it would have been a close call. I wanted it to be red but with hindsight it may just be yellow.
Similar with the time wasting. Not as it would have helped our cause having any more time! With a calm head, I thought he was fine even though SJ was clearly maximising the time he took.

Good ref him. I didn't think the timewasting was as bad as people are making out from the keeper, with the exception of the last 10 mins. Seen far, far worse over the last few seasons.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
He was good last time we had him but he was miles off that standard today. So unbelievably weak. Had 3 players screaming in his face at half time - just send them off, its easy. Allowed constant time-wasting at goal kicks or have they been instructed to stop carding for that now? At least 10 mins should have been added on, we got 5. And the 'challenge' on Trafford has been as
straight red for as long as I've been watching football. You can't scythe a keeper down so late, like that.
The defeat was our own doing but this was a **** weak refereeing performance. It's such an easy job but they have zero control in this league.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
I might be in the minority here but I didn't think it was a red for the foul on Trafford, probably a very strong yellow because it was nothing more than a glancing blow, the Havertz incident tonight was worse and he's managed to stay in the pitch. Over all I thought the ref was very good today for a change

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
Abject. Wanted to referee from the centre spot like Mason et al. Was incredibly pleased to be able to wander back to the centre whilst the keeper took his time. Foul on Trafford was a red. The free kick from the deliberate hand ball was marched from a shootable position to one that wasn't. Ignored a deliberate pass back. Time keeping was dreadful. Multiple subs and every goalkick from kick off involved time wasting. Plenty playing of advantage when there was none although he probably looked at our set pieces and thought it was reasonable to try and let it flow. Seemed happy to be mouthed off at by them.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
Thought a red would have been harsh. It was late but studs were low and it didn't seem that dangerous.
Time wasting wasn't terrible but given some of the soft cards we've seen for it this season it wasn't consistent.

On point mostly. If picky, maybe a little on the time wasting but didn't think it was crazy. Maybe a bit card happy on the yellows towards the end but moot points I think.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
No real complaints today. Yes, he could have stamped down on the timewasting but, after the first part of the season, it appears this has now been binned by the, ever changing, rules of the PGMOL. They just don't support any sort of consistency but I can definitely cope with this type of reff'ing rather than some of the shambles we have had so far this season.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
It's really easy. If you have players in your face like that, you have a red card in your pocket. They'll soon stop.
Tell a keeper once to hurry up and if he delays again, book him. Its so so easy.
Officials want respect but dont want to do anything about it themselves. Quite why they are so content to have players constantly taking the **** out of them like that is beyond me but that's on them. Weak as they come.

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
He wasn't bad at all. I think there's a discussion as they whether the two-footed studs up lunge could have been a red but I thought a yellow wasn't a bad decision. He had a decent game.
There wasn't enough stoppage time added either but I gather that's not the referees remit. Mentioning it because it was a flagship PGMOL policy at the start of the season and it's all but disappeared entirely.
Maybe if Sir Alex comes out of retirement this rule might be resurrected?

Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
That was my only real gripe but who is in charge of this these days? Does anybody know?
Re: RATE THE REF - Peter Bankes v Crystal Palace
I have a low regard for refs. However this chap was excellent.

I Like the fact that he booked two Palace players for trapping off at halftime. From National League North downwards they have a sin bin for this where players are sent for 10 minutes to cool down. However it doesn’t seem to stop the players and staff contesting nearly every decision made quite often peppered with expletives and continually attempting to undermine the match official’s authority.
Btw no Burnley players were booked yesterday but the ref showed a yellow card to Craig Bellamy, any idea what that was for?

I'd have to see the Trafford incident again, it seemed as late as my 1am arrival back home.
He booked their number 6 at HT but after the card he was still whinging at the ref, should have been a red and then another player got involved and carded before one of the Palaces coaches shackled them away.

Surely someone must be able to find some sort of a reason that he influenced the result negatively to our detriment.

The havertz incident wasn’t as bad as this for me, he went in one footed and caught the player with the trailing red. The Trafford incident was two footed as far as I recall.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2023 6:48 pmI might be in the minority here but I didn't think it was a red for the foul on Trafford, probably a very strong yellow because it was nothing more than a glancing blow, the Havertz incident tonight was worse and he's managed to stay in the pitch.
