Resigned to Relegation
I'm not usually this pessimistic this early, but I just can't see things changing any time soon.
Better performance today, but no Foster meant no cutting edge and no adequate replacement.
Desperately hope I'm wrong but it looks like a swift return to the Championship for us.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
I hold my hands up and expected us to comfortably be away from the relegation places but now I honestly can't see us winning more than 3-4 games.
The management have openly said they won't change anything so it's going to be the same till we are officially relegated or Alan and his board change something

Back in the car wet and ****** off.
We’re garbage I’m afraid. Powderpuff. No end product. No leadership. No bottle. Cannot score, cannot defend.
Have to agree, consigned to relegation. Sadly seen enough Burnley teams relegated from this league to smell that stench.

Better today but they were average, we were the better team but we are so toothless. Every error gets punished by good teams up in the prem.
No complaints, disappointed as always but I don’t like the premier league anyway

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Something is very, very wrong. We are in total freefall now, if we finish higher than bottom I'll be surprised. An unbelievable cock up and fall from grace after last season. The saying if it isn't broken don't fix it rings true.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
They’ve seriously messed up. 100 mill spent on nothing. 18 mill (approx) each for Trafford, Tresor and Ramsey! Bang average keeper, not seen anything from Tresor, Ramsey can’t even make the bench. We look awful, and it’s got boring. Add to that, that the prem is a w@nkers’ league, with all the cash, bias and VAR.

Even though on the surface the performance was somewhat better, there was a bit of an air of resignation at the end there. We look so, so fragile. Not sure what the answer is tbh.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Fortunately we’re not the only team struggling,it’s 3 from 4 with possible forest and Everton too,we’ve just got to keep going, after last seasons efforts it feels worse than it already is and with too many self inflicted mistakes you just get punished in the premier league… it’s going to be a long hard season…buckle up
Re: Resigned to Relegation
Forest and Everton will pull away. it's three from four and not looking good but we might just do it.
Re: Resigned to Relegation
Everton are well organised no way they will go down even with 12 point deduction. They will win enough. As Salisbury said 17th is our best hope. January will be absolutely vital!!!
Re: Resigned to Relegation
Used to be that outside the best three or four teams in the league, something had to go very wrong for Burnley to lose at the Turf. It's now the case that something would have to go very wrong for the other team not to win. Some good football being played in spells, but we're one of the softest touches I've ever seen in the premier league. It's dreary as hell, and I never though I'd say that about a team that visibly and obviously tries to play good football. Can't wait for this all to be over, then I can enjoy football again.

I was thinking I don’t see how we can compete, however after today’s match I am a little more positive and think if we play like that but with a more clinical finish we will be fine. I’m definitely better after that match

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Better performance today, but I think relegation is highly likely with our lack of goals scored one end and 2.5 goals per game conceded at the other.
If we go down, I think we need to stick with VK and back him to learn from his mistakes this year so that we come back stronger. My only concern at the moment is that his position as manager may become untenable if we don’t at least make a fight of staying up.

We were the better side. Lacking Foster unfortunately, but an improvement on recent weeks. Keep the faith, a long way to go yet..

We're not ready for the Prem but will be after relegation and a decent season next year.

Effort is always there, but lack of bottle and composure really hurting us. Another game we should have won, another game we got what we deserved.
It's the nature of the beast that when you are down there you get no luck, so it takes an extra large pair to dig yourself out of it. We've yet to show we have.

Because people have got it into their heads that our better players will stay and despite the habit of losing most games this season, they will miraculously rip up the championship because that league is a load of shite.
It's short sighted at best and arrogant at worst.

As long as we get a better points total than the famous Derby County debacle I'll take that right now.
We ARE going down as I have said previously but I don't want us to be in the Guinness book of records with less than 10 points and forever mentioned by the stat guys ...

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Even in a fairly bad champ season by our standards you're guaranteed like 10 or 15 wins at least. I'd take that right now. The way things are going this season I reckon I've got about a grand total of 3 more wins to celebrate and make my weekend a good one footy wise between now and next August. Fk that, I want to go back to the championship.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
I'm usually Mr Optimistic but I just can't see where we get enough wins. Palace were definitely one of the worst teams we have faced this season and we still couldn't beat them. Every game gets harder and harder when you're at the bottom. This young sides confidence will be shot. Beyer was so broken after his error which lead to the first goal and that would reverberate across the team. It's a brutal league and we are too naïve/inexperienced to cope, unfortunately.
Saying all that, if we are relegated then so be it. We go again. We stick with VK (like we did with Dyche) and, hopefully, come back up again. A risky plan but, without getting experienced players in, I can't see anything other than a bit of yo-yo'ing going on.
I don't want to go over old ground, and I knew Dyche's time was up with us, but it shows what an amazing job he did to keep us up so long on a limited budget plus get us in to Europe. It really was an amazing feat.
I'll still back these players this season and support then every game but, unfortunately, it's going to be a season to forget.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
Because we have class players who are raw and, by then, will have had enough experience of elite level football and all that entails Ans will learn from that as footballers and grow stronger physically.
We will need a bruiser or two, no doubt about that, but our collection of talent will sweep aside the, generally speaking, pub footballers of the Championship.
Re: Resigned to Relegation
Every other team in the PL who we have yet to play will be looking forward to playing us and saying to themselves 'this game is an easy three points for us.' We have just about got to the point where we give up before we start because the end result is already known.

Think again and ask yourself whether this better performance today should make you delay your opinion by a few more weeks. I think it should

Re: Resigned to Relegation
The reason we seemed to play better today, and at times against Everton is that neither team pressed us like the top sides do. Both just sat back and let us have the ball, making us look far better than other teams have done this season.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
That’s true to a point, but we also restricted Palace to literally two chances, the first being a gift from us and the second being another gift but from a risk we had to take to get the ball back up the pitch in the dying seconds.
This was a dominant performance from us but we’re lacking the ability to put the ball in the net and unfortunately we’ve got at least one mistake which will lead to a goal conceded per game.

And that's the difference between playing the top teams and not. Plenty of teams in this league are not top teams . We just have to hope these harsh lessons are learnt quickly by the players

That said, if we can get a bit more luck with injuries to key players and still be in touch come January, who knows.

Re: Resigned to Relegation
But I think that's because we gift the goals. Had we still been 0-0 kicking off the 2nd half I would guess both Palace and Everton would have upped the press to squeeze a goal before dropping back into shape.
Re: Resigned to Relegation
Defeatist if the board are resigning us to relegation at the beginning of November. What a disastrous window. VK and this team are out completely out of their depth. This brand of football was never going to work at this level against such quality opposition. To just assume we will get promoted if we go down is fanciful. So why throw it away.
Re: Resigned to Relegation
This 100%. If Beyer never makes that mistake, Palace would not be happy to sit back for the rest of the game.BabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 04, 2023 8:55 pmBut I think that's because we gift the goals. Re: Resigned to Relegation
It appears I’m the only one that thinks this, but I think we’re a miles better team this year than last. Parts of our play today just never happened last year.
The levels are just completely different and I’m not certain that we can make this style work for us in the Prem with the resources we have, but I’m not worried about winning promotion again if we kept this team together.

The recruitment meant we’ve set up for short term pain for long term gain. I think we got the balance wrong ultimately.
Beyer has to make mistakes like today to develop and learn a hard lesson. It’s part of a young player’s development.
The manager is also brand new to this, he’ll make mistakes and hopefully learn.
This squad is filled with raw talent, we just have to be patient with them and try to support through the difficult losses on their journey of development.

I think this is a fair question; it’ll be tough to bring in players in January. Certainly of the quality we need.
Loans will be the way forward I think. Players not playing elsewhere.
