Minutes silence yesterday.....
....what happened to it?
The announcement was that a minutes silence would commence after The Last Post and the end of the silence would be indicated by the referees whistle.
Pretty simple instructions to follow I reckon.
Very disappointed that this couldn't have been honoured.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
I thought the same. But some started applauding when the last post finished. Everyone then joined in.
Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
It’s always the same, somebody decides to start clapping and everyone feels obliged to follow suit. The announcer needs to say after the Last Post please do not start clapping as there will be a minutes silence which will cease on the referees whistle.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
The announcer actually said a moment's silence, which was probably a mistake in the circumstances.

Not totally convinced the 4th November needs to be used for remembrance but it is a bit crap that people can't observe a silence properly.

Probably best not to try and over complicate it. A blow of the whistle to start, one to end. There were never any issues when this was deemed sufficient to pay your respects.

The announcement delivered is the same for all fixtures. It's sent to the club by the Premier League

I can't say I noticed that but I was a little taken back by the noise coming from the area at the back of the tunnel.
I presume it was late people still trying to get in the ground for the CF end?
But the ground must have been silent for me to hear outside.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
I thought it was impeccably observed by very nearly all fans in the ground, and the last post was very poignant too. Yes, it is a shame that some fans clapped early causing the whole ground to applaud but it wasn’t ruined by it.

Seriously? You think the announcer should pop-up in the middle of it all to tell people not to clap yet.
Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
It was the language used in the post, as much as the crass comment, if you don't like it, just keep quiet, or put across your displeasure in a more appropriate tone.claret2018 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 3:24 pmGo to the cenotaph on Sunday for reflection and to pay your respects, don’t impose it everywhere for a week either side of Remembrance Day.

A minute should be neither here nor there, it’s not everyday people are being expected to remain silent & it shouldn’t be a problem & I dare say to the vast majority it won’t be.

Football wants everyone to see players "taking a knee", football wants everyone to see players wearing Rainbow laces / armbands but you don't think football should want people to pay respect to the millions who gave their lives to protect everyone's freedom?
Strange.

Racism and homophobia are issues, or certainly have been, in football. So either people here have misunderstood or clubs have interpreted the instructions wrong because the televised games today have done exactly the same as we did yesterday.

What can the ref or stadium announcer do when a few thousand people start clapping, despite being told there would be a minutes silence to follow the last post?

Or maybe clubs have just accepted that there are too many knobheads who attend football matches incapable of being silent for a minute.
Applause is the only way to drown them out.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
The minute was observed all over the ground. Turf Moor is good for that.
However, the complications was the Ladt Post, which probably took a minute. Whilst I was waiting for silence then a whistle, there was obviously some who confused the lady note of the bugle with the referee's whistle! Particularly away end/CFS methinks.
Nonetheless, I would assume that everyone thought they had paid their respects, as indeed they had, during LP.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
Tradition is the Last Post followed by minutes silence but I can understand some not understanding that and applauding straight after it
What I don’t understand is why somebody thought it wise to shout “COME ON BURNLEY” straight after it

It was just a misunderstanding. It should have been a minute's silence before the last post. I've no doubt it would have been impeccably observed had that been the case.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 4:42 pmHow do you know when everyone immediately applauded anyway?

I know because of how well it was observed against Blackburn last year and the cotext yesterday was clear to me. There's was no disrespect yesterday; just confusion from some supporters. Nothing to be concerned about.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 4:46 pmNot sure how you can know that or why there'd be any misunderstanding.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
Yes there were 100's of us outside the turnstiles (300+ at a guess) I think they shut or slowed the turnstiles down, I was at the front of the queue with my son before the pat down/dog pen. It was only because I was stood near the stewards who stopped the movement into the pen saying to their colleagues there was a minute silence starting otherwise I wouldn't have known. People behind me were shouting the usual 'get it moving' and a few Burnley shoutsQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 12:47 pmI can't say I noticed that but I was a little taken back by the noise coming from the area at the back of the tunnel.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
That's how I would described it (similar to the big warehouse clubs) three railed channels, each person patted down then into an area before turnstile where the dog (s) sniff as you enter and up/down the turnstile queue.
If the dogs reacts people are taken to table at the side for a more thorough search

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
At a football match I think that you are probably correct, but this isn't the usual or expected way.
It should be The Last Post, then the exhortation should be read, "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them. "Response: "We will remember them".
Then it should be the period of silence and this is broken by the bugle (in this case a trumpet) sounding the Reveille, ("The Rouse") which is a different bugle call and shorter.
Yesterday the exhortation was read BEFORE the Last Post which is not the usual way, and may have added to the confusion.

Usually, the last post sounds as the flags, banners and/or colours are lowered, there’s then a minutes silence, then reveille is sounded.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2023 10:57 pmIsn’t that how it should be rather than playing it during the minute?
It shouldn’t really be any different at the football grounds, but we all know the utter morons attending need more help than a verbal instruction 30 seconds before it happens.

Re: Minutes silence yesterday.....
The exhortation and the last post was observed like it should be, so if people started to clap early then that's there choice, but doesn't make them morons, the good thing to come out of this is the whingers on here have another topic to keep them happy till the next one.
