Found this slightly interesting comment on a Mail article about Fofana's move...

Any signing this month HAS to be a kinda "one of the first names on the team sheet" player. We have enough potential and youth we now need NOW players to give us a chance to survive IMO

Don't sign anyone. It is pointless to waste money at this stage.

Would tend to agree that I don’t want us to spunk any further money (if we even have any left?) on potentially expensive flops.

Looks like he's got a bit of Drogba in him.
Not talking about John Deary either.

Re: Fofana
Fofana on loan is a waste of time and money. We got our summer recruitment so horribly wrong, the squad is imbalanced and too many lightweight signings. We're more or less relegated barring a miracle, so any recruitment this window should be with the championship in mind because that's where we're heading.

I think after last night, I’d be tempted to save the money this month and take stock in the summer.
If we agree a couple of loans, fine, but I think leave it there for now.

I think with berge and Taylor in last night we win that game. Anyway let’s get what we can in and make a good go of it.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I agree there's no point blowing money on any signings now. Have a good look at the squad and start planning for the Championship, try and ship out those who won't fancy it.

He did ok in defending the long balls, but I think with a better balance in the side last night the points are ours. They should have been anyway123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:03 amI agree regarding Berge but for as much as al-dakhil looked lost at times nothing actually game from his side

Odobert is getting better at helping back and at 19 he obviously isn’t as strong yet but he’s too good in opposition half to not play on the leftgandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:07 amHe did ok in defending the long balls, but I think with a better balance in the side last night the points are ours. Nonsense re signing .we need a combatative cm and a profen striker now.
.We are in the most competitive league in the world and to go out of it with a wimper totally unacceptable Lots of games left 8 wins and we are safe.UTC

Re: January transfer window rumours.
It does mostly seem pointless to bring the lad in on loan but if it means VK will sub Foster off when he's clearly knackered it's worth it just for the sake of Foster.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Quite ironic that the player with the most fight in the team is the area we’re having to strengthen ,J Rod is really down the pecking order.

It might also help if the other players on the pitch would do some running to close down as well, instead of Foster having to sprint left and right following passes around whilst the others watch.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:17 amIt does mostly seem pointless to bring the lad in on loan but if it means VK will sub Foster off when he's clearly knackered it's worth it just for the sake of Foster.

We just need a left back incase of Taylor injury and that’s all we should bother doing now this window, don’t bother spending anything else, go with what we have and go again in the summer

Definitely the case-I watched Al Dakhill playing there last night and he was clearly uncomfortable against a Luton side very active on that sideAD was defending. Not fair on the young lad, Considering Taylor was in VK's eyes a CH until about August, its an absolute failing we don't have another LB123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:23 amWe just need a left back incase of Taylor injury and that’s all we should bother doing now this window, don’t bother spending anything else, go with what we have and go again in the summer

As much as we are as good as down baring some massive upturn in form, it’s going to get embarrassing watching a premier league play cbs or rbs at lb if Taylor is out till middle of Feb or longerwarksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 9:30 amDefinitely the case-I watched Al Dakhill playing there last night and he was clearly uncomfortable against a Luton side very active on that sideAD was defending. Unless we sign a Roy Keane type midfielder, I can’t get excited by any signings we make.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
thing is, as this month goes on the posters would be out raging against VK/Owners for not signing anyone, especially a striker, which everyone and their dog has been saying we need since the summer transfer window. I've no clue how he'll do, or even if he will start in the next 10 games for example, but at least it's someone other than JRod to bring on, Obi is either still injured or he's upset VK.

I’m also struggling to get excited about loans who aren’t going to be with us next year.
I’d really save the wages and give our guys as much game time as possible to improve them for the Championship.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I suspect bought Oba was bought for the Championship, which is handy as he’ll be there with us next year, but reports are also that he’s available for loan so maybe he didn’t select him for that reason.KateR wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 8:58 pmthing is, as this month goes on the posters would be out raging against VK/Owners for not signing anyone, especially a striker, which everyone and their dog has been saying we need since the summer transfer window. This is something I struggle to understand about the various arguments that are made on here, for example “why did we sign so many wingers”, “why don’t we play X or Y more”. I just see things completely differently to most posters.
I see it that Kompany initially bought a squad for the Championship, players he thought were at that standard with room to improve. This summer I think he bought players he thought were Prem level. So we might wonder why we have 22 wingers or whatever but I think Kompany views it as having 4 or 5 - the ones l he bought in summer - with the others being those he’s looking to develop to that level. Couple of injuries and all of a sudden you see why he bought so many.
I’m not suggesting the squad is balanced, it’s far from it and far from complete (impossible to do that in one window) on our budget), but I think he’s effectively managing the squad in two tiers at the moment with nowhere near enough in the top tier. Hence trying to move some of them out to create more space for players he’d see as Prem-ready. I don’t think we should assume every one he moves on has fallen out with him or has no future because we’re about to go back to the league he bought them for.

I don’t know about that, I can’t say I noticed, but I thought he looked a fish out of water but one that coped with it very well.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 10:08 pmSomeone posted that Ameen didn't win a single 50/50 header: do left backs get that sort of action?
More to the point was that we shouldn’t have been allowing quite so many diags to hit that side time after time. They were clearly targeting him and we should’ve found a way to shut down that danger.

Bristol City after Scott Twine

I read we are willing to sell Scott Twine for £5m but Bristol City don't want to know at that price.

Media reporting Jordan Henderson wants to return from Saudi Arabia. If he's still in contention for an England place - and he's made his money in SA - I'd be happy to add Henderson to the squad to the end of the season.
