I just hope we arnt making the same mistakes as the summer window and signing players that are not a priority.
Full backs and centre mids have got to be the priority this window

Because we are potentially signing a cb doesn’t mean don’t have full backs and cm as priority, it’s all about when players comes available.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:42 amI just hope we arnt making the same mistakes as the summer window and signing players that are not a priority.

For example if our main target is Gueye who’s away with AFCON, that’s always a deal that will be last minute

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I agree on the priorities, but I think the club might view it now as just bringing in the top talent when you can. Or maybe they see a different plan - if they see Ramsey and Massengo as CM’s, for example, and they’re training well, maybe they see different priorities. Perhaps Beyer or O’Shea to RB to accommodate Estève.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:42 amI just hope we arnt making the same mistakes as the summer window and signing players that are not a priority.

Fully agree on that. Hard to understand why we would get another CB when that's one of the positions where we already have a luxury of options.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:42 amI just hope we arnt making the same mistakes as the summer window and signing players that are not a priority.

I'd hope he's our main target. I really wouldn't spend a penny on another CB.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 9:48 amBecause we are potentially signing a cb doesn’t mean don’t have full backs and cm as priority, it’s all about when players comes available.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Delcroix is never a PL player
Beyer can’t stay fit
Al Dakhil has been our worst player this season (still bags of promise)
Ekdal has been out injured for the majority.
Dara has been the only mainstay.
I think we definitely need a big physical defender at the back, we’re weak in the air. I see no problem with signing a 6ft 4 French u21 international who is starting every game in Ligue 1.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
It's a hard market for us as any signing needs to buy in to the idea of getting relegated and coming straight back up. I fully believe that is what will happen for us, you can only hope players like this lad buy into that long term picture. On the balance of his stats, size and the level he is playing at he looks a very good partner for a fit Beyer to me.

We really need 2 full backs, and a physical destroyer in midfield.

Just on Gueye, I’d hope the AFCON isn’t stalling this deal, as the final isn’t until 11th feb.

Agreed. Not so sure I can manage another half a season watching Vitinho at right back.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
At a pinch I could live with Charlie and could live with Berge holding midfield, but given Brownhill’s creative limitations I would rather have that midfield passing destroyer (has to be a good passer) to move Berge forward, he is so hard to get off the ball it brings the forwards into play, the “winner” at Forest being a prime example.
Right back though is a must to have any chance. Strengthen those positions and I think we’ll survive.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I've had a quick mooch around on Montpellier's forum and the general consensus is that they're going to be furious if he's allowed to leave and that they think he's one of two players that have been the best this season.
They also think 10m-15m is the going rate.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Left sided centre back, can never have enough of those especially as ours have injury problems. His heatmap from this season shows he's got a lot of touches in a defensive left back channel as part of a back 3/5, allows for an attacking right back. Height always welcome. Plus no word on the injury Delcroix has picked up.

Linked with another winger, Carlos Forbs at Ajax.

If you look at goals conceded from corners, direct free kicks and crosses, then a commanding Centre Half is a top priority. My heart sinks every time we concede a corner or similar.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
We haven't conceded many goals from corners, to be fair, though the defence generally has suffered during games geenrally - a lot of it down to being unable to keep a settled back line due to injuries. Also change of keeper but let's not get into THAT.warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 11:31 amIf you look at goals conceded from corners, direct free kicks and crosses, then a commanding Centre Half is a top priority. Signing an an unproven 19 year old winger in January when you have zaroury, benson and tresor struggling for game time would seem crazy. I can understand those not playing in place of a ready made winger with experience but not this lad

I know some question marks have been over the fees we've played for some players this summer, but Ajax paying 14m euros rising to 19m for a player who has never made a senior appearance for anybody is absolute madness!!bfcort wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 11:21 amLinked with another winger, Carlos Forbs at Ajax.

There's a CB on loan at Southampton who's getting absolutely rave revues I notice, as Saints have been on an amazing run. Can't believe we didn't think he was worth pursuing!

I think it more illustrates the market that we are operating in when trying to sign the best young talent and to an extent explains/justifies the fees we paid in the summer. A bit like we lost out on Verbruggen because Brighton outbid us.FeedTheArf wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 12:40 pmI know some question marks have been over the fees we've played for some players this summer, but Ajax paying 14m euros rising to 19m for a player who has never made a senior appearance for anybody is absolute madness!!
It’s just alien to us Burnley fans, as is having to wait to see them achieve their potential, because at least in recent times we’ve adopted a different a very different strategy.

1. He’s slow, at least compared to O’Shea, who is rapid. The Premier League is full of fast strikers.
2. City wanted £13m more for him than WBA were willing to accept for O’Shea.
In my opinion, a much shrewder signing.

If they’re a) a RIGHT winger, and b) as good/cheap as Koleosho, I wouldn’t be against it.123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 12:33 pmSigning an an unproven 19 year old winger in January when you have zaroury, benson and tresor struggling for game time would seem crazy. I’d still be keeping Benson though.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
I really like THB, but after watching him on Saturday I still don't think he's ready for teams that don't dominate possesion even in the Champ never mind the Prem. Great at passing and intercepting but I don't think he won any duels 50/50s, and was arguably at fault for the goal. Sprinted back to play attacker "onside", even though it should still have been given offside. They took him off second half to help see out the game. Still only 21 so should get stronger.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Jan 22, 2024 12:44 pmThere's a CB on loan at Southampton who's getting absolutely rave revues I notice, as Saints have been on an amazing run. Can't see Ajax taking a loss on Carlos Forbs (Borges). Maybe it's a loan that allows Benson to leave on loan as he can also play RW.

A proper right back is priority in the next 9 days. Shoving current centre backs out there at this level and hoping for the best is just ridiculous.
