Re: January transfer window rumours.
Sounds like Esteve is definitely leaving judging by half a dozen reports, it is just whether we get gazumped like with so many good potential signings last window.
Quieter window in gemeral though so hopefully more chance. The agent rules have changed now (capping their payout), last summer was a real rush for everyone to get as many of their players bought as they could, so we were really up against a lot of competition.

Think I’ll just call him Steve .

Premier League outfit Burnley are on the verge of signing Montpellier Hérault SC defender Maxime Estève (21) for a fee of 12M€, reports L’Équipe. As previously reported in GFFN, Vincent Kompany’s side are among several clubs looking to secure the young Frenchman’s signature and are ready to act in the January transfer window to steal a march on the competition.

If, as is suggested in the link, he plays this weekend before any transfer is considered then he'll be live on TNT Sports 2 on Sunday lunchtime.HahaYeah wrote: ↑Fri Jan 26, 2024 10:50 pmPremier League outfit Burnley are on the verge of signing Montpellier Hérault SC defender Maxime Estève (21) for a fee of 12M€, reports L’Équipe. Re: January transfer window rumours.
With the new FFP Rules it makes sense to bring in loan players. If we get relegated our 3 year rolling loss allowance will drop dramatically from about 80 Mill to just under 60 Mill. So the club has to be very careful about spending on players. It's probably the main reason we're bringing in these young uns to fatten them up before taking them to market for a profit. Under the new system clubs like ours will lose our identity as their is unlikely to be many players that we'll come attached to such as Charlie and corky. Bring them in then sell them,

As several others have said - a loss of connection with both club and players.

2 (possible relegations) and 1 promotion in 3 years is always going to lead to a higher turn over of players. Hopefully staying up would mean we would just need some targeted signing in certain positions and a more settled squad.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Pape Gueye not likely to join us now and is preferring leaving Marseille on a free in the summer.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
He looks a good player esteve but I just can’t stop thinking this is just a repeat of the summer window. Signing players for the sake of signing them. We are already well stocked in this position and are crying out for players in other positionsjojomk1 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 8:01 amhttps://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/footb ... ships.html

Are you really expecting any signings?
Alan Pace usually does all the negotiations and he's been in Dundee this weekend.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
While the previous points about having a mobile phone are valid it’s worth also highlighting negotiations are carried out by Matt Williams (as per MTB and following interviews with BBC Lancs).Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 8:38 amAre you really expecting any signings?

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Yes Matt Williams is involved, Alan Pace has flew out to get a few deals done though.
I suppose we have done that many inns and outs, the workload will have to be shared out.
Thanks for all the other sarcastic replies, we have missed a bit of humour on this board recently.

Esteve starts today.
Live on TNT Sports 2 at 12pm
As his manager said, any possible departure would be after the weekend.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Bit disappointing that the only links with full backs is about Roberts and Taylor leaving. Really don't get it at all.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Sacha adamant benson was going to Leeds because gnonto was going to West Ham, got it completely wrong and now tapping into Southampton story hahaha such a tap in merchant
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Not sure why we would include an option to buy, unless Benson has fallen out with VK
He will be vital for us next season if (in most probability) we go down

Re: January transfer window rumours.
I really hope we don’t lose him. I’ve no problem with a loan. If he can get fit we'll need him next season. I hope the talk of falling out with VK is not correct.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Would he want another season in the Championship? From his point of view, he's been there and done it. Much more likely, in my opinion of course, that he's up for going to Southampton or Leeds because they fancy promotion. Then he's either Premier League with them or goes elsewhere.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
A massively talented player, however the problem with Benson is that the opposing manager simply has to say to the full back marking him "hit him hard but fairly" in the first few minutes. Then you wont see him again for 4 weeks

Can’t take the 4 outstanding goals away from him, opposition managers probably did say kick him but they couldn’t get near him. The quality of full backs he came up against last season are nothing like the premier league

No doubting he had a brilliant season, scored some stunning and vitally important goals, and will rightly go down in Burnley folklore. But he doesn't play enough, isn't consistent enough, and doesn't contribute off the ball enough. There aren't many teams who can find a place for a player who's entire game is flashes. Burnley can't, Leeds can't, Southampton can't.

Your making out like it was just benson that sealed the title in a 2 week window, we could have lost every game in that 2 weeks and still won the title. Benson was excellent last season but it’s complete discredit to the rest of the squad just mentioning benson. From December to march benson barely played

Re: January transfer window rumours.
Wingers always rotate in the modern game and barely finish 90 minutes. Heck, look at our lot this season even - bet you'll struggle to find many that played the full 90 consistently.Pickles wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:29 pmStarted eleven times. Played a full ninety minutes just twice.

There aren't many teams who can find a place for a player who's entire game is flashes of magic, no matter how magic they are. Burnley can't, Leeds can't, Southampton can't.
His game isn't just 'flashes of magic' - using his moments of magic as a negative is just obscene. His inclusion alone opened the pitch up as he was doubled up constantly - even Gvardiol was standing off him when he came on agaisnt City in the first match.
He cost relative peanuts - absolutely no need to not have him as a rotation winger for the remainder of his contract - offers something different and is a fan favourite.
Oh and he scored literally scored once every ~ 150 minutes of gametime, so hardly 'flashes of magic'.
We're shite as is, I just don't understand it and this bullshit transfer policy.
