It needs to be more like…..Paul Waine wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 3:51 pmI'd find it helpful if we split the "transfer window" threads into 3 separate threads:
1) Burnley FC - rumours of incoming players;
2) Burnley FC - rumours of outgoing players;
3) Other Clubs - rumours of transfers.
I've no issues with debates on each of these 3 separate threads, provided people can keep the debates within the three separate topics.

If a team takes around 120 corners and fails to convert any of them into a goal the coaching and tactics can’t be that brilliant in all honesty.Stockbrokerbelt wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 4:14 pmIt needs to be more like…..

Fener have signed Soyuncu on loan.
Replacement for Ossterwolde? (Not saying he’s coming here, like)
their squad, it’s a collection of players you find yourself saying “whatever happened to x”? Have a look, they’re all at Fenerbahce.

Re: January transfer window rumours.
To be fair, I’d say with Kompany’s signings YouTube has proven to be a pretty good barometer of what you’re getting. Bar maybe Tresor.
But in any event, I doubt even Newcastle watches enough of French and Turkish leagues to form a proper assessment on a player so it’s a necessary evil.
On that note, I miss longtimelurker’s scouting assessments. He often picked some very good ones before they got decent moves.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Decent young rightback Hashioka from STVV to Luton Town. Genk were after him.
Re: January transfer window rumours.
Turkish maybe not but French, German and Italian football is always on TV and also has highlights programmes. Maybe Sean Dyche smashed up a pub with Duncan Ferguson, oh and picked a fight with Weghorst & Cornet in training.
Really bored of all the negative 'maybe this maybe thats' taking a pop at players/management staff who've done well for us just because they're on the outs, you'd think when we've got a player who's had a very public mental health struggle we wouldn't engage in speculative attacks on a person's character.
One thing to question a guy's ability on the pitch if they're not delivering, or their workrate if they are visibly lazy on the pitch, but another to start going "maybe he's a prick" based on nothing beyond the fact he's not playing. Got to love the irony of people complaining about fans slating Tresor or Ramsey for their abundance of non-performances this season on the back of 1 decent game for Ramsey and 1 decent run/corner for Tresor, but apparently endlessly doing down a guy who was superb for us last season is fine cos Kompany isn't playing him.
Not going to pretend I've heard of or seen him and precious little data on the usual stat sites that's recent, Turkish leagues aren't really covered on FBref. But from what I can see it looks like he could be a decent option. Young and seems to be decent in the air, more of a Taylor than a Maatsen in terms of how he attacks & overlaps but can play CB so can possibly invert/tuck in, reasonable short & okay midrange passing. Don't half wish we'd got Hartman in the summer, but for the price point we'll be shopping in this guy seems an ideal LB cover/longterm choice.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 1:48 pmLeft back linked

"Reported" fee of £20m maybe, but quite a long time after the window opened but their behaviour over Tella was still outrageous towards us. They seem to apply the same tactics to Che Adams. I wouldn't be keen to deal with them unless it was for a player we desperately wanted as a main target.

Seen this and few places now and I appreciate I'm almost certainly missing something, but what exactly did Southampton so that was so heinous apart from set a price for their player that we didn't want to pay?

The Athletic reported some messing around with said price. An article inferred that early in the summer Saints had given us one price, we were ready to do the deal, they delayed it and doubled the price (from 10 to 20). The author commented how we were annoyed as we felt it was us who had increased his value in the first place.

Not read the article myself, but I will say that I'll need more than "The Athletic reported" and "an article inferred" before grabbing the torch and pitchfork for a march on St Mary's.

There's no "endlessly doing down" of Benson from me. He was great for us last season, mainly as a sub, and he gave me one of the greatest moments I'll have in a football ground with his winner at Ewood.
I was replying to people seemingly mystified about why he's been 'frozen out'. If he has (and it doesn't look that way, given he's been in the squad lately) then there's bound to be a reason for it. I suspect it isn't anything to mystifying though. It looks more like manager and the coaches see the players every day and just haven't gone with him. He's also been unlucky with injuries and probably needs games more than anything.

I actually think our valuation of Tella was ridiculous of 9m and it proved to be when Southampton sold him for 20m .. We could have had that deal wrapped up at 15m in early
Stages … I’m glad we are asking 15m for benson though who I get the feeling they are getting a fantastic player

Not read the article but for the author to say that we were annoyed because it was us who had increased his value in the first place really does make you think that the rest of the Athletic report is also complete hog wash.RVclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2024 8:01 pmThe Athletic reported some messing around with said price. Never in the history of transfers has the buying club got a reduced price because the player did well under them. In fact it’s quite the opposite - prices are inflated because they know you want him and he’s already proven he can do it at your club.
We may have lost out on Tella which is unfortunate especially with how our season is going. But for Southampton and Bayer L things seem to have gone rather well.
