Overall we have done well, but set pieces have been unbearable to watch. The only thing we can realistically change is the keeper.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Well for me if we play like this against the teams we need to take points off, we would succeed in doing so.
My biggest frustration today is our utter ineptitude to compete like this against Brentford and Bournemouth and our profligacy and sloppiness against a ‘there for the taking’ Palace.
We simply HAVE to proceed with this system and side (barring the required introductions of Muric and Ekdal for Trafford and O’Shea). A shout out for Vitinho who probably had his best game for us today. Berge was also excellent and the midfield two of him and Brownhill competed really well today.

Another comfortable defeat

Coaching at the corners seems to be the problem.

Very weedy from Obafemi

VK better be getting Muric a big present and a sorry card after this disaster, get him back in the nets ffs!

All lovers. Good performance other than any corner!
Keeper must be replaced.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Positive that it's a decentish performance undermined by bad moments, rather than a bad performance with a few good moments like most other games this season.
Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Genuinely mind blown fans expect any different away at Arsenal, I’ll tell you now we’ll get licked 3+ away at Man City too.

I'm not disheartened by this.
A few notable performances. A better mental approach.
Same defensive issues.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
The issue is a lack of commanding the box by the keeper. Something Muric is just as **** at doing.

The issue with today is we should really be able to see positives in the fact that we made it difficult for a top side and created some good chances but because we haven’t but up results against teams we should have you can’t be positives.

A good performance apart from some non-existent organisation at corners - both defensive and attacking.

We're 100% going down but at least there were some positives today and against Palace that bode well for the future123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 5:06 pmThe issue with today is we should really be able to see positives in the fact that we made it difficult for a top side and created some good chances but because we haven’t but up results against teams we should have you can’t be positives.

Not a bad overall performance from 10 of the team, but if Trafford starts the next game before Muric then there are serious questions to be asked about VK's judgement/stubborness. Why oh why didn't we spend the Trafford money on Tella?!!

That’s my point, we should see it as positive today that results will come and if we had of picked up points in last 2 games you could feel positive

Not only Muric, if Vigouroux, Casper, Waller, Moss, Franchi el al can't do better than that then why are they employed by a Premier League football club?Vino blanco wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 5:09 pmNot a bad overall performance from 10 of the team, but if Trafford starts the next game before Muric then there are serious questions to be asked about VK's judgement

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Muric has his strengths over Trafford don't get me wrong
But if you think he makes a difference today positively then you're forgetting Sheff UTD last season. I've also not seen Trafford make a mistake akin to that Muric made against Watford last season.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Muric drastically improved from then, and calamities aside had always offered a ton in buildup.
Muric with Ekdal in front of him was a very assured keeper.
Bellis returning threw it back a step, Bellis tended to sit weirdly deep and had a habit of dropping very deep and rightwards which often wrecked our shape, he was very overrated due to his youth, Englishness, and love for attempting the Hollywood pass, but he threw the defence off. The 9 games with Ekdal in Muric looked miles more composed, yet the improvement had still been there. He was the same pre-season too against i think Real Betis.
I can understand expecting and hoping for Trafford to improve too. He will. But we're starting from a much further point behind relative to the rest of the league, than Muric was last year, which means I dont think we can afford for that waiting time.
Muric might have made those mistakes or not, might have made those saves or not, it's kind of irrelevant. The issue now is getting the young keeper who will be blaming himself for his errors, out of the firing line, and getting in the keeper who's better with the ball at his feet if we're wedded to passing it out from the back, if only for a few games to give Trafford a ******* reprieve. At least if Muric has a few mares everyone can say told you so and it all eases off. We're losing and conceding for fun anyway, the lad needs a break from the hammerings.
Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Trafford isn't playing with Ekdal infront of him though? I do agree though Ekdal would help with our frailties from set pieces. I'm not sure either goalkeeper is really Premier League level at this moment, but you can say that about a number of the team.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Agree with virtually all of that. Simple fact for me is that today there were some decent performances agsinst a very good side, silly mistakes wreck everything and this happens again and again. There is something wrong with the current plan lets try something differentspt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 5:24 pmMuric drastically improved from then, and calamities aside had always offered a ton in buildup.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Been some positives last two games. Thought we kept our shape well and created some decent chances.
Second goal infuriating from both O’Shea stupidly giving the ball away a minute after the equaliser and then Traffords weakness from the corner.

I agree, other than the mistake that led to Bournemouths second goal I think Vitinho has been the player to show some confidence to drive forward with the ball and try something, just needed to make better decisions and have better touches, sighs where there against Everton and palace. Today he was really good, his shirt to lose at right back now

Far better today, but has been quite erratic up to now this season. Gave away a cheap penalty, schoolboy error against Bournemouth and had the tendency to come inside and give the ball away each time he received the ball. Glad to see improvement anyhow123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 8:12 pmI agree, other than the mistake that led to Bournemouths second goal I think Vitinho has been the player to show some confidence to drive forward with the ball and try something, just needed to make better decisions and have better touches, sighs where there against Everton and palace. Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
It was quite an enjoyable and encouraging performance up until that absolute stopper of a second goal was conceded, which in turn then lead to uncertainty with the next 3 set pieces we faced that went into our box, the third of which lead to the game finishing third goal. But again I think at least we are starting to find a solid defensive shape of some kind

He was a big factor in our goal against Chelsea but yes did give away a daft pen, he does seem to have confidence to try something at least rather then playing a hopeful pass or passing backwards, no coincidence that he has had 2 better games with JBG in front of him, just a shame the power in JBGs legs have goneBelgianclaret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 8:24 pmFar better today, but has been quite erratic up to now this season. Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
What I noticed yesterday, his pace allows him to cover a through ball that exposes Beyer and O Shea, and did that effectively yesterday. Plus he will not get a tougher opponent than Minarelli -I thought he contained him very well yesterday. I thought he was a liability until recently, but yesterday changed my mind, and looks like he can improve further. At least we now have two good options for RB

Maths wasn't my strongest subject at school but wasn't tella available for £20m & he ended up where he is now for around £20m & Trafford was £15m potentially rising to £19m. Not sure that's half or anywhere near it you are looking at £5m tops maybe even less if the add ons are realized.
Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
I thought Tella went for £25m and whilst Trafford was reported at potentially reaching £19m, I doubt it’s anywhere near £19m and probably closer to £10mJakubclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 12, 2023 10:10 amMaths wasn't my strongest subject at school but wasn't tella available for £20m & he ended up where he is now for around £20m & Trafford was £15m potentially rising to £19m. It's great to just make up prices for Tella and Trafford but you can't really expect people to go along with it.

Sheff United away game:
https://youtu.be/dNZpCr9ZNw8?si=91cfiFlXW112AVIc
The Sheff United game being used as a stick to bash Muric is bizarre.
Non of the goals we conceded that day are his fault at all - he even saved a fair few.
The facts are is Muric has done far more for us in a clarets shirt - big moments keeping us in games and was a key player in our title winning side.
He should never have been dropped like he has.

Re: Gooners v Clarets match thread
Nobody knows whether Muric would fare any better than Trafford in this league, but surely he'd done enough last season to be given the shirt first and then see where it went from there and surely it's now time the shirt was lifted from Trafford, at least for the time being when it's clear that's not working.
