Tom Heaton a play coach role?
Offer Tom a player coach role he can play and pass on his setpiece and corner handling ability onto Trafford and Muric

Get off the players back, support the team and let the manager and coaches do their jobs?

Re: Tom Heaton a play coach role?
Heaton was a fantastic keeper for us, not seen anything to suggest he's a coach.
I think Billy Mercer's still without a club. Baffles me he was sacked with the rest given Dyche didn't sign him, even more surprised Dyche didn't take him to Everton after what he did for us.
Could do worse than bringing him alongside ten Rouwellar.

Absolutely- not Heaton, but the guy who coached him. And Pope.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 5:50 pmHeaton was a fantastic keeper for us, not seen anything to suggest he's a coach.

Get him back to play in net, sad to see a top pro happy to waste his career sat on a bench.

Sure I saw him at Everton on sky in their coaching set up a few weeks ago.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 5:50 pmHeaton was a fantastic keeper for us, not seen anything to suggest he's a coach.

Only short term cover while their main coach has surgery, not a permanent team member. Snap him up while we can.Superjohnnyfrancis wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 5:53 pmSure I saw him at Everton on sky in their coaching set up a few weeks ago.

Re: Tom Heaton a play coach role?
Does Tom Heaton even have any coaching badges? I don’t know the answer.
Re: Billy Mercer, he went in at Everton in the summer to cover for Alan Kelly who was having an operation. I don’t know whether he’s still there or not.
But what we do know is that Kompany will bring in his men as you would expect him to.

I don't recall handling crosses being one of Heaton's strong points.

I’d be up for getting Brian Jensen on a pay as you play deal, he could coach too.

Had a beer with Billy two weeks ago and he's definitely with SD at Goodison.

Re: Tom Heaton a play coach role?
100% accurate. It is a total myth that Heaton came back into the team at the expense of Hart due to his ‘coming for crosses’. Heaton was just as bad if not worse at staying on his line.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 6:53 pmI don't recall handling crosses being one of Heaton's strong points.
Heaton’s mere presence in the team, his solid all-round goalkeeping ability and his very noticeable vocal contribution on the pitch seemed to give the team the lift it needed in 18/19.

Re: Tom Heaton a play coach role?
Heaton was a leader and decent keeper… he wasn't this when he was just 21 years old though.

Re: Tom Heaton a play coach role?
Might not have his coaching badges ,but anyone whose seen him play must remember him shouting at his defence to get out ,don’t think I’ve heard any of the players shouting or trying to organise this season.

Re: Tom Heaton a play coach role?
Yes, he was great at that, and Pope even louder (as I recall).
Our very inexperienced back 5 certainly lack that level of command.
