RIP to a lifelong Claret

Post by Stevesball2 » Thu Nov 16, 2023 2:04 pm

Andrew Helme known to most as the Captain, died peacefully on Monday in hospice Blackpool.
His prostrate cancer had spread and his decline was quick .
Captain has been a lifelong Claret and my great friend .
At peace now RIP Captain.

I knew Andrew. Both he and my sister live in Lytham St. Annes and they used to share the driving, so I would walk back to the car park near the Queen Vic with him after every match.
I understand he was only 66.
I was going to suggest to my sister that she notify the club, so that Andrew's name could be included at the Memoriam game in the new year, but perhaps you woukd like to do that, Stevesball2?

This one’s a shock. I saw the name and then when I saw who posted it I knew it was the same Andrew Helme I knew.

Both my brother and myself knew him really well and it’s only a couple of weeks since he mentioned that he hadn’t seen Andrew for a while.

Such a good lad - I really am shocked and saddened at this news.

RIP Andrew.

Heartfelt condolences to Andrew's family and friends.

Life can be cruel and unfair at times.

We should all make the most of each and every day. Laugh a lot more and whinge a lot less.

Thanks for putting this on Steve. Andrew was my friend for 50 years and the Best Man at my wedding. He was a thoroughly good bloke and an obsessive Claret. We spoke every week even after I moved down south and I will miss him enormously. RIP mate.

Nice to see Andrew's photo on the screen at half time, even if they did get his age wrong. He was 66, not 62.

For information, Andrew's funeral will take place on Thursday 30th November at Lytham Crematorium at 1.15pm, followed by a celebration of his life at the White Church, Clifton Drive, Fairhaven, at 2pm.

Sadly got it wrong in the programme too - my 66-year-old brother was quick to point out it was wrong given he was in the same school class as Andrew.

Really sorry I won't be able to be there on Thursday but he'll be very much in my thoughts.

Rest in Peace fellow Claret, and sincere condolences to his family and friends; 66 is no age and one day we'll beat this horrible disease (I pray).
