Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
As this place is the font of all knowledge......
I have a Blu-ray player that's getting a bit long in the tooth (Panasonic BDT700, bought 2016) and it has been having problems reading some Blu-ray discs. Most of my own ones it reads immediately after turning on but I also borrow discs from a lending library (Cinema Paradiso) which are obviously a bit more used. Quite often these cannot be read if I put them in the player just after turning it on (despite cleaning the discs), but if I play a DVD for half an hour first then try to play the Blu-ray, it is now read by the player.
It's a bit of a nuisance but does anyone have an idea what is going on here?

Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
I take it you’ve cleaned the lens on the player?
Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
No. I understand there maybe three different lenses/lasers (for CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays) and some don't seem convinced about cleaning them.
Is lens cleaning useful or could it possibly be harmful?

Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
There are different coloured lasers for different discs but don’t worry about that, it’s just a matter of keeping them and discs clean. Also make sure the transport tray is level too
Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
I bought a Hama Blu-Ray laser cleaner. It made no difference!

Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
Sounds like the laser block needs replacing - that will cost as much as a new player. Unless someone can suggest something else - Time to start streaming or a new player - sorry it’s not good news
Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
Are Blu ray players still a thing!
Re: Blu-ray Player odd behaviour
It's odd though as it still plays all of my Blu Rays and some of the ones I borrow and then most of those just need the machine to be warmed up.SalisburyClaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 6:40 pmSounds like the laser block needs replacing - that will cost as much as a new player. I've yet to find a streaming site that has the mix of films I like - foreign, old (30s and 40s) etc.. Cinema Paradiso serves me well.
