It’s tough moving to a new country. Good luck and hope you speak the language fluently. I am still learning American which I can assure you is different to English

A couple of friends moved to Ibiza. They said there were definitely hurdles, but also lots of unexpected good things.

I envy you! I’d love to retire in Spain, preferably in Catalonia.

The very best of luck.

Enjoy

The Spanish gov are looking to do the same as the French, as in issuing in longer visas for British citizens who own property in France

Just seen on a FB group (Kelly's expat and tourism) that you can go over on a student visa if you enroll at College for more than 20 hours a week, which allows you to work part time.
That group is based in Benidorm and helps sort driving licences out etc.. for people moving over there.

Also make sure if a uk property sale is involved before going that the house sale funds are recorded 1st half of the year and the move out is the 2nd half of the year otherwise a nice tax bill will hit the mat in Spain.

I’ve lived here in Spain for over 5 years now & the best move I’ve ever made, live in Southern Spain & it’s hard to find fault, apart from our water shortage .The weather is fantastic but very hot in July/August, great infrastructure from roads to town centre’s. The people are fantastic & you never here anything about immigrants but there are tensions between Spanish & Moroccan sections, there are 104 different nationalities in our area. As for beaches totally spoilt for choice & are only 35 mins from the Atlantic coast as well. My advice is to immerse yourself in the culture & enjoy life & everything that comes with it.

Yes I think that's the point, no resentment like you would get if you moved to say Cornwall or Wales .

I thought the Visa issues, post Brexit, didn't apply if you become resident?

It used to be but sadly no more. We still have great weather but prices and taxation are insane. America like most countries has huge problems
As a tourist you probably won’t see much change other than prices
Have a great vacation

Spain is one of the most racist countries on the planet. Plenty of resentment if you're not white. I used to live in Portugal. Plenty of resentment towards foreigners of all colours.

Catalan is very different (to Spanish) but Spanish (and English) is spoken widely in Barcelona. My son lives there and can get by in English but he is learning Spanish (not Catalan).

Do what you can being what you are.
Shine like a glowworm if you cannot like a star.
Be a wheel greaser if you cannot drive a train.
Stay in England if you cannot go to Spain.

'Old northern rhyme'.

This is from a book I'm reading at the moment - RAF Evaders by Oliver Clutton-Brock.
