We had a Kevin Ly in the youth set up about ten years ago. He was Australian.

When signing a young player like this from a club at a similar level to us, I tend to think of a few questions why he would leave a club.
Was he not good enough for Sheffield United, and if that's the case why would he be deemed good enough for us?
Or did he simply turn down the offer of a new contract from United in preference to us?

Maybe the opportunity to work with a born winner and a born leader was too much to turn down? Especially considering the managers form when selecting young people for the match day squad…

Understand your concerns, Juan Tanamera, and you make some valid points.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 2:41 pmWhen signing a young player like this from a club at a similar level to us, I tend to think of a few questions why he would leave a club.

However, having watched this boy in action, albeit from a distance, I believe we have a serious asset on our hands.
Let's trust that Sheff Utd's loss is our gain.

Played for 10 minutes this week for the under-21s and was an unused sub at Fulham so not sure anyone has seen much of him as yet. I'll be at Leyland next Tuesday so hopefully see him play there. He can play full back though I'm told but is usually in midfield.

There’s a young lad already playing in the U18s who left man city to come to us, he looks like he’s going to be a really good player with some big clubs all after him already, so whilst I understand your point, it’s not always the case.Juan Tanamera wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 2:41 pmWhen signing a young player like this from a club at a similar level to us, I tend to think of a few questions why he would leave a club.

Hope he’s real Ly good!
Re: ARTICLE: Ly signs in from Sheffield United
Possibly he feels his chance of 1st team football would be better at Burnley after Sheffield signed 17 Yr old Zac Giggs from Man Utd as a left full back?
