Christmas signings?
Something has to change or we are going down. The owners must see that. So, do they make further considerable investments and bring in a couple of major signings or just prepare for relegation?
Re: Christmas signings?
Prepare for relegation.
No more signings and hope Foster comes back relatively quickly (and Berge fancies another season in the Championship).

I just keep the doors locked , lights off and pretend I’m not in.
Re: Christmas signings?
No point signing anyone else with this Manage in charge.. If we are accepting relegation and giving up don’t spend the money.

He's already pushed a hundred million down the khazi, don't see how wasting any more will help.

Re: Christmas signings?
A few wingers are what we need
Re: Christmas signings?
I wouldn’t trust any of our current recruitment team to spend money wisely i the prem. Keep the power dry. Plus we’ll be well over 10pts a drift by the time January comes round and beyond saving.

Re: Christmas signings?
It’s signings in the right positions that are desperately needed.
I was hoping that we might be within touching distance of safety, come January.
We won’t be and that will make January mightily difficult to attract the type of players that we need.
Its become a right old mess, unfortunately.

Kompany will sign another winger who will come good for the 2028/29 season.

Not a chance we spend any money in January because we already have to prepare for relegation.

Re: Christmas signings?
No way anything short of ano 80m spent keeps this side up.. aside from the fact that players wont want to come.. just accept that we are down , need a rebuild and players like koelsho / berge / amdouni will be sold to name but 3

Pretty sure we won’t sign anyone this Christmas as the transfer window doesn’t open until January

Apologies! I can’t keep making basic errors at this level!
Re: Christmas signings?
Can’t see them spending anymore money. Perhaps loans and for that to happen we need to ship a few out first.

Having seen Alan Pace's dejected look when WHU went 2-1 up I would be very, very surprised if more money is thrown at the project

Re: Christmas signings?
Just wondering re finances, people going mad about the £100m spend, if the worst happened and we went down how much would we get back for players.

About 30 quidmybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 12:58 pmJust wondering re finances, people going mad about the £100m spend, if the worst happened and we went down how much would we get back for players.
Re: Christmas signings?
Without a doubt yes. Would you say Trafford and many others are worth less ? Especially in a fire sale which it would be
Re: Christmas signings?
I would say most of our summer signings would be valued below what we paid for them right now. The two main positives so far have been Koleosho and Berge. I'm not sure there would be a fire sale and certainly not for 30 quid.
Re: Christmas signings?
Realistically I see us getting little to no profit on most right now..Id expect us to recoup our outlay overall with a mass fire sale, maybe just. I expect there will be a lot of relegation release clauses inserted, probably be a similar amount to what we paid to protect the club and the player. The big question is who will be able to afford and want them.
You can't put the price on having to do it all again however and having to work with a new group of signings.
Then there's the rise and shift in the transfer market. 100million spent in the last window could be 120m in the next.
So while I see it possible for us to make out money back sort to speak, it still leaves us behind the curve needing a new squad and potential increased transfer fees to replace them.
When I talk about needing a squad that's because I believe we would have to make a lot of sales to generate those funds back. Not because all our players are worth pittance, but because we will keep players rather than take a loss. Trafford probably fits this bill, maybe Ramsey. I doubt anyone is paying what we paid so we'll likely keep them.
I imagine your likes of tresor, amdouni maybe odebert might have relegations clause's similar to what we played and I'd expect them to leave for there fees. It's unlikely we'll take a profit but I also don't think we'll take losses.
So if there's already a few we won't sell who came in for relatively high fees and likely some that will go for there price. We need a couple, like Koleosho, Foster to get a profit on and then selling a good few others for average fees to generate our money spent from the last window. People need to stop dreaming of those 20m+ figures for players like Zaroury and Benson, we wouldn't get 20m for the pair right now.
I think we're looking at selling 8-12 players to get that 100m back depending who they are.

Re: Christmas signings?
If you are referring to Maatsen, the figure wasn’t within a million miles of 30 million. For it to reach that I think he’d have needed to win over 100 full international caps and win Premier League titles with us.

I appreciate there will be targets to be reached for it to get to 30.....but I think you might be going a bit high there

Re: Christmas signings?
Anyone with a bit of grit, height and nous for midfield please. Andre Gomes, Allan, Donny VDB (ok mebbe not the grit) should all be available on loan and that’s just the ones that have played for Everton!
Re: Christmas signings?
We need to ship out so many players to free up a bit of cashbyovdtrengthen the spine, it's crucial and I'm sure thecwheels sure in motion, if not it's a dereliction of duty.

Re: Christmas signings?
I actually think a lot of the fees quoted in summer are nearly double the actual fees.
Think we’ll be in a much better shape than some expect if we go down and sell a few. Koleosho will already be worth a fair whack and we paid nothing. Foster if he comes back will be a fortune, amdouni impressing, Odobert looks to have so much potential.
We will see.

Re: Christmas signings?
I do wonder if someone explained to Alan that in order for clubs to want your players for more than you paid, they need to be playing and playing well, ideally but not necessarily in a team that’s doing well.mybloodisclaret wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 12:58 pmJust wondering re finances, people going mad about the £100m spend, if the worst happened and we went down how much would we get back for players.

I heard that the Trafford fee was massively incentivized too, can you confirm that to be about right ?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Nov 26, 2023 6:04 pmIf you are referring to Maatsen, the figure wasn’t within a million miles of 30 million. Re: Christmas signings?
Folk seem to forget how the value of players regularly playing in the Premier League increase irrespective of how they or their team are doing…Koleosho is the one, young, tricky, fast, good dribbler, massive potential, no fear etc and yes I agree the end product needs improving but that will come so in the current market we’d expect to get at least £30m for him maybe more…..or flog him to Saudi for £100m
Re: Christmas signings?
I've been saying that for ages, doesn't fit the narrative for many on here thoughVegas Claret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 1:51 amI heard that the Trafford fee was massively incentivized too, can you confirm that to be about right ?
Widely reported at the Manchester end at time of signing

Re: Christmas signings?
I'm completely ambivalent about relegation and really don't position myself anywhere beyond my seat at the Turf.
A fair proportion of UTC posters obviously take time out daily from their jobs in high finance, their sports agency or EUFA coaching job to share their expertise with us mere lower order supporters. It's mind boggling how close the Club is to a complete meltdown and being cast into non League oblivion within 4 years!
Nah, it's more like a badly written fictional novel.

Re: Christmas signings?
Zero need to spend in this window. Maybe a few loans out for odobert and massengo and if we can get some experience in on a loan maybe do that. But spending more won't keep us up now. We just need to improve and develop the players we have.

Re: Christmas signings?
I really hope you are joking. We absolutely need to address the glaring gaps in the summer recruitment which is having a major impact on the style of play we want to implement (mainly a continuation on last season) this includes a pacy striker, and a very good left wing back at a minimum, willsclarets wrote: ↑Tue Nov 28, 2023 10:00 amZero need to spend in this window.
