Ben Mee

Post by ClaretsPadiham » Sat Nov 25, 2023 6:59 pm

Just watching Brentford v Arsenal. Man of the match performance so far from Ben at 34 years old.

How I wish we had a player like him in our team now who can actually defend and loves doing it.

He would walk into this team even at 34.

Mee was part of no nonsense but strong four man defences backed up by strong goal keepers, Heaton and Pope. Dycheball at its best, working with limited budgets and relying on 1-0 wins.

Love it or hate it, Dycheball gave us the firm foothold in the top division that we hadn't seen since the early 70's.

No he wouldn't

And even if we're plsying the hypothetical game, he'd give away more goal scoring chances than Al Dak with the way he'd be asked to play.

He was player of the season last year in a team who plays anything but route one. It's a myth that he can't do it, he's a very talented footballer.

He was Brentford's best player yesterday and certainly wasn't bang average.

An absolute Rolls Royce of a footballer. That is all.

Ben Mee is a far better centre back than anyone we have in our team
Would swap him any day for any 2 Brentford chose

Any TWO Dave. Wouldn't be too keen on losing Koleosho and Berge at the minute. 😂

Ben Mee would walk into our team. So would loads of the better paid defenders who play for better teams than Burnley.

I'd have him in above any other player right now.

Always though Ben Mee had one mistake a game in him, although never doubted his work rate

Even ignoring his ability as a player, we don’t half miss someone with his sort of leadership credentials. Perhaps more so because we have such a young squad.

I don't disagree. Perhaps wouldn't give 2 players for him though, whilst I appreciate the sentiment from DTV.

Yep.

Their best player and not bang average.

As an aside, player ratings websites I've seen have him as their best or one of their best players yesterday.

Did you even watch it.

Well yes he would. Brentford fans think he has been an excellent addition to their team, providing intelligent defending and the occasional goal.
He is a proper leader as well, something missing from the Burnley squad right now!

That doesn't matter, he wouldn't get in this side.
100% not
Not sure if you watch our games, know the philosophy, listen to the managers plans/vision, but if Ben Mee was here, he wouldn't be getting minutes never mind starting.

See Jack Cork for example

It's a shame that he walked out on the team back in 2022.

It is. But totally understandable why he left. As shown by how things have played out for him since.

You do know Brentford don't have VK as manager or a board which follows a business model which wants to play young players to develop and sell on for big profits....

I'm struggling to understand they'll be people out there that genuinely think if we had a 34 year old Ben Mee here, he'd be starting games under VK.

He didn't want CT, Doesn't play Cork, told Jay he wasn't in the plans or would get many minutes , in turn he'd be doing a Cork if we had a fully fit squad

your quote
"he'd give away more goal scoring chances than Al Dak with the way he'd be asked to play"

and you've now decided to change your point because your first one was nonsense.
