Charlie Austin on the bench at Accy Stanley tonight for Swindon...currently winning 0-2.
Maybe give him a ring.

Wrighty might be busy though ... hasn't he just picked up his Gong from our number one fan 'The King'

Surely everyone agrees we could have done with him?

Re: Barnes
I must admit to being in the camp of getting rid of Barnes last season. Totally before his turnaround in form, but despite that turnaround I figured we needed better. If I’d known what our transfer business was going to bring I’d have had him for another season.

Tony Philliskirk is already at the club. No need for phone calls.
Re: Barnes
Should have kept him for his influence with the youngsters Zaroury and Benson worshipped him

Norwich fans really rate him. Was the right time for him to leave but only if we replaced him. Unfortunately, we didn’t.

I’d have him back on a six month loan, he’s got the grit that this team is lacking!

Re: Barnes
Up till Saturday I would have definitely agreed, but to me he looked unfit and uninterested. It was like WHU were playing with 10 men.PaintYorkClaretnBlue wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 8:50 amI’d have him back on a six month loan, he’s got the grit that this team is lacking!
A move back to the Turf might rejuvenate him, but he won't improve his fitness overnight.
(Ings, of course, not Barnes as in the thread title - we've gone off track!)

Re: Barnes
Lots of ironic cheers from the Hammers fans when Ings was substituted on Saturday, sounds like that performance wasn't a one off. Great player for us, but I wonder if the injuries have taken their toll on him.
Re: Barnes
Exactly that.
He was a huge influence on their confidence and guided them, whilst clearly leading the line.
A big mistake, when signing loadsaplayers of a young age, to not retain his experience and clear expertise.

Re: Barnes
Hindsight is great, but without Foster's illness Barnes would have been nowhere near the side. I doubt he'd have stayed just to be mates in the dressing room, as he moved to play games

Re: Barnes
Barnes is very good at going down like been shot when touched on the back .. but apart from that he has had his day /.
Re: Barnes
Not hindsight. Never thought he should go, for the reasons given. We are very lightweight in strikers and he would definitely have played his part.

To get this thread back to something that slightly resembles a serious discussion on a Premier League Clubs main forum:
Amdouni is now, even at this early stage of his career, 10-20 times the player Barnes was at his very peak and will go on to have career Barnes could only dream of.

Not suggesting he isn’t ,but I think Barnes would have help us out no end for this season even just as an extra body.equinox wrote: ↑Wed Nov 29, 2023 5:00 pmTo get this thread back to something that slightly resembles a serious discussion on a Premier League Clubs main forum:

Re: Barnes
Some of the names suggested on here obviously are sarcastic ,but does anyone seriously think that Jay Rod is a better option than Barnes?

Re: Barnes
Definitely ,but his goal scoring prowess has diminished to next to nothing and he doesn’t tend to upset the defenders.

Dear Wout,
Well I know you like playing in the PL, you told us that much, well we need a player who can create and on the odd occasion score a goal as well. If we don't post any negative comments would you consider coming back and saving our season? If the answer is no I will be chuffed to bits however if you do come back I promise not to post what I really think.
Big hugs
CR

Re: Barnes
Ashley Barnes scored 6 goals in 39 appearances last season, playing up front for the division's top scorers. Try and imagine, using this information, how many he'd score in the PL.
