Billy Ingham
Billy Ingham
I’ve supported Burnley since 1967 but just seen a Bradford City team Photo about 1980 or so & one face leapt out at me…Billy Ingram.
I had to comment on it & referred to him as the “Ginger Pele”….but exactly how did he get his nickname…feel a right fool in asking but getting on now & losing grey cells at an alarming rate!

Re: Billy Ingham
On me Edson
I remember being on the Bee Hole behind the goal and someone headed the ball back across goal and there’s Billy 1 yard out all he had to do was nod it in. Instead with his ‘fro he contrived to head it about 3 feet up in the air, it then descended in slow motion and he finally scrambled it in with his feet while being tackled by about 3 of theirs.
Madness.

I think it started when he scored against Chelsea in the old second division.Madpete wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 6:48 pmI’ve supported Burnley since 1967 but just seen a Bradford City team Photo about 1980 or so & one face leapt out at me…Billy Ingram.

He got the ball in the box at the Bee Hole End, sliced a shot or pass, it went up in the air and when it came down he thumped it into the net.

He very definitely didn’t slice anything - check the description at the linkgawthorpe_view wrote: ↑Fri Dec 01, 2023 10:10 pmI think it started when he scored against Chelsea in the old second division.

So good that he was worth mentioning twice.
Geoff Nulty was another.

Re: Billy Ingham
No wonder I was flummoxed as in 76/77 I worked every Saturday in Leeds, travelling from Bacup,to pay for an extension to my house.I let my friend Brian Baron have my season ticket so missed Billy’s wonder goal.I would have to say that the write up of his goal certainly gives him the right to be known as “the Ginger Pele.” Funny how certain players remain long in the memory whilst others are quickly forgotten!
