Burnley v Sheffield Utd

McBurnie is an absolute c*nt, glad to see him gone as you just know he'd be one to score against us if he was still on the field later on

I actually think McBernies red is harsh, his arm goes up cos he jumps, never looks at O'Shea so isn't sighting the elbow. If that was on one of ours I'd be fuming.
But it's not and we've had some awful decisions against us so hopefully that seals this one

One of them where you could tell he was a talent even from a few 10 min cameos - said it in a thread after the spurs game I think ‘what is our best XI’.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:45 pmSaid it in his cameos and definitely thinking it again Brun Larsen is so important in us having the correct tempo. He's much more incisive he wants to make things happen one way or another rather than just prat about slowly waiting for the theoretically perfect chance. Already done enough to start the next game for me.
Vitinho also looking miles better with a more aggressive winger in front of him, he put in one real good ball to Jay and generally has been creating and finding space and skinning men.
Few questioned my inclusion of JBL, just think you could tell he’s a top player. Two feet, turn of pace, good passing range.
Top player

We could go on to bag a few against 10 men but to be honest I’d rather have the clean sheet.

Wasn’t it a second yellow? If a straight red I would agree but imo the first should have been a red anyway.spt_claret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:48 pmI actually think McBernies red is harsh, his arm goes up cos he jumps, never looks at O'Shea so isn't sighting the elbow. Time to show off our ball retention and get a few goals in the process.
Worse thing we can do is play too defensively because if they get one back they'll be right up for it.

Good half.
Let's hope we carry on footballing them out of it, 2nd half.

Re: Burnley v Sheffield Utd
We've been very good.
They've been poor.
VK had our lineup correct.
PH got their formation wrong. I don't think we are a team to sit off! Hasn't he seen the goals we give away!
Glad for Jay. He's looked better than he's looked for months. I really thought he was finished.
If we don't win from here, against 10 men all lacking in confidence, then we deserve relegation! Whatever VK does, I hope he doesn't do the modern manager thing of bringing subs on for the best players near the death and, ahem, giving the game away.

Larsen offers so much more than JBG

He's had a knack of doing a bit of everything every time he comes on. Tall for a winger, good centre of balance, fast footed and fast brain he's had some really quick thinking one touch plays and feints in previous appearances that you only see a sharp player do, like you say he's two footed, can pass, cross, good technique so can go on set plays, not as rapid as Koleosho but pretty mobile, can finish...he honestly looks like a player with the full toolset and I still think he could play striker in this system as he's got reasonable height and strength.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:49 pmOne of them where you could tell he was a talent even from a few 10 min cameos - said it in a thread after the spurs game I think ‘what is our best XI’.

Wish his was the loan to buy and Tresor the optional tbh.

That is not an awful ball, that is the ball we saw Muric play to Cullen 1000 times last season. It’s to break the press and create space out wide to drive into, draw a midfielder out of space that we quickly exploit. Fleck could never win the ball thereTricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:36 pmFleck booked but yet again it comes from that effing awful ball Trafford plays out to a marked man on the edge of our box.

I was worried today when I saw Stuart Atwell was VAR for today’s game but we’ve luckily not had too much to use him for. Hopefully stays that way. Do not want similar to the Fulham vs Wolves game.

I could see the first being given as red but can also sort of see why it wasn't.
Fleck's through the back of Brownhill was one I thought was lucky not to get a VAR review, nasty and nowhere near the ball.

I'm not gonna write Trésor off like, just think he will need time that we don't necessarily have - he's also not a right winger.
But yeah on JBL - you can see his footballing pedigree. Spot on where you say quick of thought - that's half the battle in this division. I really like him.
Re: Burnley v Sheffield Utd
Was it definitely Jay's goal and not an OG? It was suggested earlier it might have been an OG.

Can get some bad injuries with those type of fouls.
You do see straight reds for them, usually well into a bad tempered game.

So happy with that half. Battling and creative. Vitinho having a cracker, working well with Brun. Come on lads, batter em'.

There's an option, what I'm articulating badly is I'd rather we'd done what we did with Tresor and triggered the permanent deal asap, and left Tresor as optional.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 3:59 pmI thought there was an option with JBL? Just hasn't been activated?

I'm not sure why we signed Tresor other than Kompany was still enamoured with him from his time in Belgium, he hasn't impressed at all and doesn't seem either what we need or any different or better than what we already had. It's been done to death but for that money I'd have had Tella. Hoping he comes good but he's got a lot to do to justify the fee. As an aside, Churlinov cost more than Benson or Zaroury and look how he's panned out (even if I think he got written off a bit early himself).

Not to write JBG off though who has performed really well - of course he doesn't have that same burst anymore but was our best player against Arsenal & West Ham.

2 subs for them. They have nothing to lose but go at us full pelt.
Archer off. I thought he was disappointing. He was the one I wanted ahead of Ramsay when I watched them last year.

I think he did a great job last year but he has them set up very poorly for this game. I don't understand why they haven't really come after us. They've chosen to sit back. Why would anyone do that with the way we've opened the year.
Brentford just scored.

Re: Burnley v Sheffield Utd
Gudmudsson really impressed me with his CM conversion last year. He's not dynamic enough to be a prem winger now but he's an incredibly clever, experienced player with great vision, positioning, reading, and passing. Last season he would slot in all over the pitch, one minute left back to let Maatsen bomb up the next he's in a right forward channel. I think he's still useful for us but more as a CM playmaker or mezzala in a 2 or 3.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 02, 2023 4:06 pmNot to write JBG off though who has performed really well - of course he doesn't have that same burst anymore but was our best player against Arsenal & West Ham.
