Super James Trafford in goaallll…

I’m warming to him, mainly because his distribution is improving. Still not Muric-levels but much better today 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Some really good balls into the midfield today. Picked his way through the gaps very nicely.

It's a hell of a leap from L1 to the PL, particularly for a very young goalkeeper.
Let's hope this is a massive boost for James.

I’ve consistently scored him low this season, not because of the goals we’ve conceded, but because almost every game I’ve used ‘ponderous’ with regards to his distribution. Today was much much better, and in my opinion he will warrant higher than the 7 most have scored him on the ratings thread when I get round to doing them. Well done James and hopefully a sign of things to come.

The lad gets naff all protection at corners.

He’s very young and inexperienced for the top level and this clouds many a poster’s judgement.
He has to win his critics over and the biggest difference I saw today was that he is beginning to be confident in delivering passes into the centre of the field .
I read a poster berating him on the match day thread for an unsuccessful pass ignoring the successful 3 ‘ Muric type’ passes beforehand.
It’s important we all remain objective

Today will have done his confidence a world of good. Same goes for rest of the squad. A big black cloud will have dissipated this afternoon.

Although I've posted many negative posts about the lad he had a better game yesterday against poor opposition, so my point being one game doesn't make him a world beater, far from it, but it is improvement and will do his confidence no harm at all, however I still see the lad as too young, inexperienced and weak in lots of aspects of he's game and to my mind would be far better to continue he's progression in the championship as it would seem a much more natural step after a season in league one, he needs to fill out and stand up to the rigours of the championship before he goes on to the art of distribution and needs to speed up in he's thinking above all else. We all want progression for this crop of young players but the goalkeeper is paramount to gaining experience step by step before moving into the hardest league in the world, so needs time, unfortunately we as a club don't have the time to allow him against the quality and press of the Premier league, so a loan in January would be far better imo.

Thought the whole defence looked more aggressive on crosses in yesterday. A steep learning curve in this division

He will get stronger in the Championship next season and come back even better than he is now we have a future England full international on our books here,he will eventually leave for big money

I can’t see any scenario where loaning out our number one goalkeeper would be beneficial.

Obviously hope that's not the outcome, I'd much prefer a bigger stronger more experienced muric in to save the season and send the lad out on loan in January. But maybe it's not out of the realms of possibility he could go on to achieve big money.

Completely bonkers, where do people come up with this stuff from. File under ‘let’s loan Foster out’ during the summer.

If Muric was number one we still shouldn't loan Trafford. It would be daft.

SU we’re by far the worst team we have faced , he will be tested a lot more in the next few games. Imperitive he keeps his levels up or it could be ground hog day again.

Goes for the whole team though that is the standard they now all need to be putting in week in week out.

He looked confident and assured all afternoon yesterday which was a delight to see from him.

I particularly enjoyed his willingness and ability to find Amdouni and Rodriguez in the number 10 position, and kept trying for it even when a couple of passes were intercepted.

I just hope Trafford and the rest of the team use yesterday to kick on now. Getting something at Wolves would be a good next step.

I expected him to come under I lot more pressure yesterday knowing what Sheff Utd were like last season but it never really materialised.

His passing was decent, as it was against West Ham.
The save and the block were in that category of "look good but a bad one to concede". If Norwood scores that it's a poor one to let in, miles of time and not tucked in the corner, contrast it to Brownhills goal which was nearer, harder and in the far corner. Still he makes the stop well.

Don't see how he can be marked an 8 or even a 7 when he had 2 ultimately standard keeper actions to make, but he got both right and his passing range was improved. I still put Muric in if available as I still think he's the better keeper currently and especially for our play style, but zero complaints with Trafford's performance yesterday.

I thought the save early in the first half was excellent as IMO he saw the shot late as it came thought a melee of players AND he pushed the ball into a safe area.

I don't see how he can be rated as just 6 or average when he did everything right yesterday. 7 or 8 feels right to me and that's what has played out on the ratings thread in the main.

It's a good save that's also a bad one to let in. We give away a lot of long range shots, a distance effort is always a bit of a coin flip, if that's right in the corner it's an excellent save because you never expect him to make it but that was a save you'd expect a keeper to make at this level.

2 good saves yesterday.
First one is pretty standard - but does come through a few players and he parries it into safety. Seen a few goals in this last week where the keeper has parried it to an opposition player and conceded a goal.

Second save is much better - point in the game at start of second half where we were getting a bit sloppy. Trafford came off his line very quickly to make that save - spread himself well too.

His kicking was good too yesterday and from their only corner of the game it was Trafford who won the ball.

No mistakes, few important saves and contributions towards our goals. That’s why most fans have given him a decent rating.

Well if you refer to my earlier post he would never have been my no 1 in the first place for reasons I've explained, which tbf to loan him out would further complicate thing's which is why I would have loaned him at the beginning of the season.

Perhaps it's no surprise that against a Championship-level opponent, he looked as good as Muric did against Championship-level opponents.

Yes, loaning him out in January as you have suggested would be a completely bonkers thing to do which is why there is absolutely no chance of it happening.
