Heckingbottom to be sacked
Looks like we were the final nail in his coffin.
John Percy reporting he’ll be sacked today.
Wilder possibly replacing him.

No shock. Can’t say it’s not been coming…
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
He gets them promoted, loses players and they sack him, awful, absolutely awful.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Fans wanted him gone before Saturday. Does seem a little harsh on the face of it - he practically admitted they had to sell their two best players, N’Diaye and Berge, to get funds in. Doesn’t sound like their signings Hamer, Souza and Archer are doing the business. Was surprised their midfield two had reverted to Fleck and Norwood on Sat.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Seems a nice fella, sacking him would be pointless...no-one is going to save that set of players from the drop this season, they have been shocking and took some proper hammerings....Wilder? ...oh dear.

Thought it was a bit bizarre when our own fans started chanting getting sacked in the morning. Prompted their fans to chant the same. Surely we want him to stay as long as possible.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
He's got them trying to play better football than I can ever remember Sheff Utd doing, they have always been very direct.
Which is what fans want until it leaves you more open and easier to get stuffed.
Not sure who will take the job without some money to spend, but it's not a job I would want to take on.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Wilder is useless, some wanted him to replace VK last week proper rubbish, was getting Middlesbrough relegated last year whilst we romped to the title.
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Bad news for us if true, although of course when you’re at the bottom you’ve got to expect there’ll be teams around you getting new manager bounces.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
You have to feel for him - must have been incredibly galling to get thrashed at the weekend with the player we signed from them on the cheap two days before the season being the best player on the pitch.
That said, the dreadful McBurnie situation, dropped heads (not for the first time this season) and unhappiness of the fans probably made it inevitable. And their most successful manager in recent memory being readily available probably doesn't help.

Some tool on 909 - obviously a Sheff Utd fan - was calling for Hickingbottom to be sacked and replaced by Warnock......

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
I once rated Wilder after his first 3-4 years at Sheff Utd, and taking them to a top half PL finish. But is now a shadow of the then manager. The best thing for Burnley is that they appoint him again
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Wilder is a busted flush. Sheffield utd are doomed, we don't need to worry about them
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
It is bloody awful. The only consolation I suppose is that even though he has been working for a bunch of shisesters he will have amassed a decent pot of cash.
Football management in the top two divisions is a such a precarious occupation. Championship clubs chasing the holy grail of the Premier League and Premier League clubs fighting to stay in it.
As the song goes ……. “Money talks, dirty cash I want you dirty cash I need you whoa ooh”.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Never been a fan of his but he has been dealt a bad hand.
The keeper is poor and where is Egan? MF is Championship level at best.
Poor replacements being signed for a few years now.
What’s happened to the lad from Liverpool they spunked big money on? Probably the start of their financial woes.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Felt a bit sorry for them as that’s the worst prem side I’ve seen in the last 10 yrs , perhaps only Sunderland coming close ( and they actually had some decent players ) .
I’d actually bring Colin in ,as he’d shake the place up and give them all a huge lift and at least install a smidgeon of hope .

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Heckingbottom seems a decent bloke to me and I think he did a great job to get them up as he didn't have much (anything?) to spend. He gets them up automatically, gets them to the FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley, loses his two best players (Berge and N'Diaye) and then they struggle - so he gets sacked.
Yes, they're getting absolutely railed most weeks but what is to be expected realistically? Up until Saturday they were above us having not spent £100m - and yet we are (rightly) very much behind Vinny even before we battered them, barring two or three outliers on here anyway. Going back to Wilder after how poorly he has done in successive jobs since (and effectively relegating them the last time they were at this level before he got pushed) seems such a bizarre step.

Can’t stand his narrow-eyed, gilet-wearing , tyke hard man act. Looked a busted flush in his time at Boro and Watford .

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Pep Guardiola couldn't get a bounce out of the Sheffield side.
Like most people posting, I think Heckingbottom's been hard done by if they sack him; smacks of a rowing club getting rid of their four best rowers then sacking the cox because the remaining four aren't winning.
If I was Heckingbottom I'd be pleased to get sacked now: With the atmosphere/resentment of him at Bramhall Lane he's never going to last until the end of the season, so going now rather than January/February. He can have the whole of Christmas off, save for chatting to those clubs who'll be lining up with offers to sign him in the New Year; I suspect Sheffield United will come to regret their separation more than he will.
Be interesting to see if it is Colin that the Blades are looking to replace him with; things got pretty toxic when he left them before and I suspect that this is one lost cause that's beyond even Warnock's salvation.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
I dont know what chairmans/boards of directors expect ? its like the Notts Forest saga ? your target is either 4th or 5th from bottom with probably the 3 promoted clubs and Bournemouth your aim - if they finish 5th from bottom then ?? who else do they honestly think they should be above ? crazy

Heckingbotton seems like a decent person and he has done a good job there all things considered.

all good shouting at the manager, did the Sheff United fans give McBurnie grief for letting the entire club down ?

Something about rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic spring to mind.
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Their team is lost. The owners are responsible for that. Cut the cloth to a sample size. They are just sampling the Prem, sucking in the funding and parachute and returning to the Championship. Deliberate actions result in inevitable outcomes.
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Makes one wonder if McBurnie's obvious desire not to be on the pitch, was a planned move by him/the players, in order to get H'bottom out of the club.
Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
I thought he might have been sacked after the Bournemouth game which could have made it difficult for us on Saturday. When the guy next to me said he would be gone on Sunday I said he might be lucky to last that long, they. might not let him on the coach and tell him to make his own way home.

Hope Wilder gets the job because he is building a huge house near me and it's been virtually on hold for 2 years, a right eyesore to us locals
Nice chap, well regarded around here, a bit like Dyche in character, but can’t see him being able to keep them up.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Wilder being appointed is the laziest, most uninspiring thing i've heard in football for quite a while
Hecky probaby out of his depth but he literally cleaned up the mess that Wilder left Sheff U in.
Wilder proper busted flush as soon as he rode that wave of a few promotions and that novel formation/style of play with the overlapping wingbacks. 9th one season in the PL, 20th the next when he was figured out - not to mention signing some dross for big money Rhian Brewster for 20+ mill anyone??
Comical appointment. Spining the wheels at the absolute best. Warnock would've been better for the remaining season.

Re: Heckingbottom to be sacked
Anybody else appalled by the "to be" part of it all?
Why and how had it been announced that he is "to be" sacked?
It's downright disgraceful treatment. If you're going to sack somebody you do it directly and in person when at all possible.

Yes, but where has it come from? Probably not the club directly. Media speculation, 'off the record' leak?

Wherever it's come from it's shoddy.
Even if it's only come from the cleaner, the cleaner has learned about it before the actually act has been completed.
Very poor.
