Too confident now?
Is it possible that us fans could now be too confident of a result at Wolves?
My God we are fickle.
In my mind there is no doubt that we will beat them.

Re: Too confident now?
I feel it my duty to impose some ‘realism’ on the board
Wolves are a very different prospect to Sheff United, and away obviously, will be a tough one.
Big hope is we now have five players all brimming with confidence and the goals might start flowing.
Slight worry for me is Beyer being out.
Feel we’ve had terrible luck with VAR decisions and injuries this season. Let’s hope it’s turning now. Two on the bounce would do us the world of good, but I’d rip your hand off for a point right now.

1 result doesn’t make a season, that’s why it’s so surprising to see fickle fans flip flop and lose their head after 1 defeat or talk about must win games in October.
2 years ago, Newcastle were bottom of the league in January I think. Last season at Christmas the side bottom of the table was Wolves.

VK seems pretty level headed, I don't see that result affecting his preparation too much. But I reckon there will be a vibrant mood at Gawthorpe this morning.

Re: Too confident now?
As someone who started watching Burnley from the late 80s, I can't say I've ever gone to an away game expecting to win.
I always expect us to win at home though against anyone, although the last 10 years of Prem football has weakened that confidence.

Point away would be a good result. We've been knocking on the door for a but and although Sheffield were poor we absolutely demolished them which can only generate confidence that we can turn over others (maybe not quite so comfortably but certainly we've had some opportunities recenrky)

Re: Too confident now?
I think most are realistic over the fact that Sheff were useless, but it has to be accepted that we were really excellent from the first to last minute. We had played very well against West Ham as well, and also at Arsenal. Now, is this a turning point? Wolves is a great acid test as it is a game, on paper, you go into hoping to get at least a point. It's not a dead rubber.
I am anything but a wild optimist but I reckon we might do the job tomorrow night. I just have this feeling that such a young group really needed a win and to get it in such a manner will see us start like a house on fire.

Re: Too confident now?
We haven’t beaten any side that was in the premier league last season so we’re still massive underdogs. Wolves would’ve had more points if it wasn’t for some poor VAR decisions so I’m not expecting anything other than a tough game.

We beat Sheff U by 5 goals.

Even this season you can surely raise a tad more confidence than you could back then . That was when I began taking my Mrs to watch Burnley - always to away games, she came along 3 or 4 times each season - but it was 1991 or perhaps 1992 (1- 3 at Scunthorpe) before she ever saw us win a game.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 10:38 amAs someone who started watching Burnley from the late 80s, I can't say I've ever gone to an away game expecting to win.

Re: Too confident now?
Wolves are very different opposition. I expected them to be way down at the bottom of the table after their summer but they're doing well.
Chan, Cunha and Neto are a scary attacking line for us, Wolves don't average many more shots than us and average fewer touches & passes (bottom half of the league for both) so aren't reliant on winning the possession battle, they don't score a huge ton from set pieces and tend to attack down the flanks so on the one hand while Im glad Ekdal will get a chance, on the other I'm not sure this is the type of game for him.
It's a tough game, I'd have taken a point from it before Saturday and I still would, but with such a big win there's the hope we've got our confidence up and can take it to them and nick a win.

Re: Too confident now?
Let’s be honest, if we get 2 points from these two away games we will all be delighted. 3 points I’d be ecstatic.
The one bit of hope I have for Wolves is that they give teams a lot of ball in their right back position - an area where we are very dangerous. But they are also dynamite going forward down the wings and I would fear too much so for is to live with.

You have a point, but it could even work out well for us:Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 9:37 amAny confidence I was feeling after Saturday, suddenly evaporated when I learned that Beyer had got himself suspended!
One possibility:
(Now fit),Ekdal comes in and he an O'Shea play well together
This could then pave the way for Beyer coming back the following week and playing at Right Back - which is one of our weak spots (defensively) at present.
(Probably won't happen, but in the past enforced changes have sometimes. On paper, a back 4 of Beyer, Ekdal, O'Shea and Taylor would look to be our strongest physical back 4)

would be far too harsh to drop vitinho has been cracking since coming in, last game was best ive seen him in a burnley shirt top notchnil_desperandum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:11 pmYou have a point, but it could even work out well for us:

Also worth noting that Beyer was clearly one card away from a suspension so it was always going to happen any day soon and there's never a good time in all honesty.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 3:11 pmYou have a point, but it could even work out well for us:

Re: Too confident now?
My feelings are that we shouldn’t get too over confident following Saturday because Wolves away is a different prospect altogether and Beyer is suspended.
However, it is my hope that Saturday’s performance will be the turning point in our season much like Sunderland away last year was.
Obviously it’s highly unlikely this means we are about to embark on a mammoth unbeaten run like last year, but if we can now start winning much more regularly, well, you never know!
Ultimately, we are going to have to win once every three games along with a handful of draws for the rest of the season and that still might not be enough, so we are going to have to go some now.

Wolves sacked manager Bruno Lage in mid November replacing him with Lopetegui, which was the turning point in their season and resulted in improved performances following an active January window.KRBFC wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 9:41 am1 result doesn’t make a season, that’s why it’s so surprising to see fickle fans flip flop and lose their head after 1 defeat or talk about must win games in October.

Re: Too confident now?
The problem is that nobody in the entire history of the PL has ever been as bad as that Sheffield side who turned up (or rather didn't turn up) at the Turf on Saturday. Absolutely league two stuff from them and yes, I am aware Derby only got 11 points all season, but I'll venture they were never that bad.
Re: Too confident now?
Wolves have been on the end of some terrible VAR decisions, let's hope that continues (it won't now obviously).

Re: Too confident now?
How can you possibly come to that conclusion? Wasn’t the previous Sheffield team on like 2 points after 16 games in their last PL season? This Sheff Utd team got a good looking point at Brighton last week!Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2023 5:30 pmThe problem is that nobody in the entire history of the PL has ever been as bad as that Sheffield side who turned up (or rather didn't turn up) at the Turf on Saturday. Re: Too confident now?
One of the first posts on the “win vs Sheffield or Kompany out” thread said:
I don’t think Sheffield United are worse than us.
They have more battling qualities for starters.
Afterwards we beat them because they’re ****
The early goal obviously helped us as did the sending off. I do think Wolves are a different prospect with a €50 striker! But hopefully we get that bit of luck we’ve been missing this year.
Re: Too confident now?
Only 7 of their 15 points from games against the bottom half sides. Wins against Bournemouth, Everton and a draw against Luton. Defeats to Palace, Sheff Utd and Fulham.
More pressure on them at home when they play teams at the bottom end. Hopefully we can cause them some problems and get the crowd on their backs. A win could see us out of the bottom 3 which is incredible after the start we've had. In our last season under Dyche we had plenty of opportunities to get out of the bottom 3 but we came up short nearly every time. Obviously Everton could put us back in the bottom 3 on Thursday but even for a few days it would be a confidence boost. Obviously that all depends on Luton losing to Arsenal too but it's there to play for.

Re: Too confident now?
Its amazing what a win can do for the players and fans. Too confident?
The fans maybe. But I want the players to have all the belief in the world at the min. Im sure we are capable of getting a positive result. But that might mean a murder has to be committed in stockley park. Wherever that is. Because if VAR has owt to do it we wont even get to kick off one half. Nevermind get a result
