They are but not the point, Forest, Palace, etc. might still drop into the mire, a miracle win would give us a massive boosted chance of survival.

Huge game. And hopefully the supporters play their part.
Re: Everton is massive
I'm more apprehensive about Everton than I was against Brighton.
Buzzing after beating Newcastle.
The muppets are bound to boo Dwight McNeil so we know what that means then you have Dyche and Tarky.
No Taylor.
I would take a point now.

One thing is for sure, we are getting closer to the “established” teams. We now need to turn performances into wins. Bournemouth are showing us what a run of them can do.
The atmosphere next Saturday could be incredible. We have to be as up for it as Sean and his merry crew will be. Let’s not forget he will want to stuff the owners who sacked him.

It's no bigger than any other game aside from our relegation rivals even though everton's position may be close to ours it's a common held belief that everton are too good to be relegated & are no rivals to us. 3 points will be welcome but you can say that for every game we play.
Re: Everton is massive
It appears you're suggesting I said it was bigger than any other game. I didn't. You may also be suggesting that I said Everton might well get relegated. I didn't.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 6:20 pmIt's no bigger than any other game aside from our relegation rivals even though everton's position may be close to ours it's a common held belief that everton are too good to be relegated & are no rivals to us. 3 points will be welcome but you can say that for every game we play.

You didn't but using the word huge could be interpreted as that, if the everton game is huge every game is huge & the games against luton & Sheffield United are even bigger.

Every game, especially at home, is huge right now because we need to start picking up more points very soon.

Some may look at the table and say Everton are not out of it. But if they hadn't got the points deducted they'd be top half which suggests they've got players who are simply too good to go down.

Its massive in the sense that the next two games are chances for points before a couple of games that look tough on paper, and when you have 8 points from 16 games you are running very short of chances to resurrect the season.

I can’t wait. I hope we give the ex clarets a warm welcome before kick off and kindly applause them all as they were all great servants for our club.
Then after kick off, I want Turf Moor to be as hostile as I could possibly imagine and hope we send them home with no points for them.

Re: Everton is massive
Everton are no better that West ham, and we definitely should've gotten a point if not 3. Definitely should've beaten Palace, a point at wolves possibly and I thought we were decent for long periods against arsenal. In short, we can compete against Everton.
I always felt under Dyche we were weakest in the channels and from pullbacks on the byline with midfielders arriving in the box. We have the players to do that, certainly more than delivering crosses into tarks who will just eat them up.

As someone posted this week, if we're in touch with 17th place at the back end of January, then we have a real fighting chance. The Everton game is a pretty good chance to get three more points on the board before the tougher games (on paper) kick in.
So yes, all games are massive for us, but beat Everton, and it's a real morale boost as well as three points.
UTC.

Re: Everton is massive
It's a tough game to win but one that we're capable of winning. As we know, Dyche's teams aren't renowned for their comebacks. Start strong as we usually do and we have a good chance.
On Everton generally, I don't think they'll be down there at the end of the season. That's not waving the white flag as suggested above. I think we have enough to catch other teams but that won't be Everton. Doesn't mean the Everton game isn't winnable though.

Massive game as in 'the next game' is always massive whoever we play. The ex Burnley connection just adds another dimension which I'm sure the media will hype up as well. Not interested in where other teams will finish just hope that we can get out of the bottom 3.

Re: Everton is massive
Everton will be very difficult to beat because they are good away from home and can quickly turn into a 4-5-1, which will be very difficult to score against.
They also have a goal scoring centre-mid who plays in front of the midfield and a battling big centre forward.
Much more difficult game for us than Brighton because they will be happy to do a Palace, sit in and wait for the mistakes.
I hope we don't boo Mc Neil he was good for us and we got a good fee for him: no one can complain.

Re: Everton is massive
I can't see anything other than an easy afternoon for Sean. Losing Taylor is a massive blow. We'll probably end up with Vitinho at left back and Roberts at right back, which simply won't be physical enough against them. Ekdal has to come in and replace Taylor's height for me. Quite how that looks on the pitch I don't know though. They're a good side though - a comfortable top 10 side now SD has sorted them out. Another tough game for Vinny to navigate.

Re: Everton is massive
Two points worth highlighting for those who do Dyche down as an unimaginative 442 hoofman (ignoring that we've been better switching to an offset 442 ala Vings and going a bit more direct in the opposition half)ClaretPete001 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 1:29 pmEverton will be very difficult to beat because they are good away from home and can quickly turn into a 4-5-1, which will be very difficult to score against.

Everton can switch setup and can do it without needing to switch players, and Dyche converting Doucoure to an attacking midfielder has been surprisingly effective. Check his heatmaps pre Dyche vs now he was a defensive midfielder or box to box brute, he's much more attacking and side to side now and it's unfortunately working well.
We've got a physical fight on our hands against them but it's a tactical one too. I think even with Taylor out we can get a result but it's going to be hard.
Re: Everton is massive
There’s no way either SD ,Tarks,or McNeil should be booed ,SD & McNeil didn’t want to leave Tarks ran his contract down but always gave 100%.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 2:47 pmAbsolutely.

Anybody giving stick to those 3 guys need to look at themselves.
SD is the best manager during my time as a fan since 1967, and the other 2 guys gave their all when they could. They will always be a Claret, but I still want us to beat them on Saturday. UTC

We’ve already played Everton once this season , SD will get a deserved welcome though McNeil behaved like a total bellend in the cup game so might get a bit of stick . It’s amazing how quick though you forget ex players, Ings hasn’t registered for yrs and neither has Trippier and plenty more you simply forget are even playing .

I think a lot of people a bit confused thinking because Everton hovering around us in the league it’s like a battle at the bottom …they are in much better form than us and without their 10 point penalty would be in top 8 I think

McNeil and Harrison look good out wide
Strong and have pace in midfield
And if Calvert-Lewin is fit ?
Tough night for us - just ask Chelsea after today

McNeil back to his best running the game and scoring Tarks will be goal threat at Corners - it will be hard to take a point. Fingers crossed.
