Andros Townsend
He had a fantastic game for Luton yesterday and I think his premier league experience is certainly benefitting the hatters …

Re: Andros Townsend
Agreed. Seems a good lad aswell, glad he found a club and is showing that he's still got what it takes.

Re: Andros Townsend
I was thinking the same myself as his experience, alongside Nathan Redmond could have been invaluable. His cross against Man.City was superb but would we have anyone as commanding as the guy who powered home the header? I’m very relaxed about everything as Alex Ferguson’s wonderful quip…”Football…Bloody Hell!” says it all for me.It’s never easy winning games of football & my maxim is to enjoy ever second…difficult though it is this season. This team has potential & is getting better & if we have to win on the last day to stay up…that’ll do me.

Re: Andros Townsend
It's completely understandable that we couldn't fit another winger into our squad but a shame it's so unbalanced in other respects.
We all know we're light on cover for certain positions but we're also very light on experience.

Re: Andros Townsend
I agree we have enough wingers although I would have been tempted to take Townsend on a free transfer with his experience in the premier league. His knowledge to a younger group in the dressing room could also have been invaluable

Re: Andros Townsend
But surely that applies to Redmond too. We also have Jay, Roberts, Brownhill, Taylor, JBG, Berge perhaps. How much more experience do we need without ending up where we were in 2021. We undoubtedly need Premier quality in other areas for the team as a whole but not Townsend.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 10:45 amI agree we have enough wingers although I would have been tempted to take Townsend on a free transfer with his experience in the premier league. Re: Andros Townsend
I would have preferred it if we had beaten Luton to Ross Barkley’s signature. He is just the sort of player we could do with right now.

Townsend has been raving about Barkley today in the media too.

Not surprised. I think having Barkley in their team and playing as well as he is has given the rest of them belief that they can stop up.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 4:03 pmTownsend has been raving about Barkley today in the media too.
And to be fair they have been unlucky of late against the perceived big boys.

Agree about Barkley .. wasn’t long ago people describing him as the next Gazza .. ( the football genius ) not the alcoholic

Indeed, scored a few goals in his time as well if I’m not mistaken.Carlos the Great wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2023 10:45 amI agree we have enough wingers although I would have been tempted to take Townsend on a free transfer with his experience in the premier league. Re: Andros Townsend
he wouldnt be starting for us, we have a far deeper, better squad than them
Re: Andros Townsend
He’s a good player but it was right not to sign him.
Didn’t we sign Odobert instead of him who has already chipped in with two goals and looks like he’ll be our left winger for the rest of the season now Koleosho is out?

Re: Andros Townsend
Obviously a very decent team man, with still lots of ability. However we already have good wide men who cannot get game time like Larson, Odobert,Tresor, Redmond not to mention Zarourry and Benson to come back from injury

Re: Andros Townsend
Raising this again.
Thought he was very troubling all game, troubled Al Dakhil and put some top crosses in.
Hindsight 50/50 but I do wonder where we'd be with his experience. The friendlies I saw on TV he looked very solid and gelled with the team
Even daring to dream about a Tella left Townsend right 4-1-4-1 and the opportunities Foster would have been given.

Re: Andros Townsend
I thought he was crap. Against a makeshift left back.

Re: Andros Townsend
He was rubbish, especially considering he was up against a kid who isn't a left back. We did a lot wrong in the summer, that's obvious, but I'm not quite so sure not signing Townsend is the sliding doors moment of whether we survive or not.

Re: Andros Townsend
I'd like to think he'd have nailed that cross to Foster much better that Guddy did. 2 x Haaland on top of each other wouldn't have got to that.
One a free signing, he certainly wouldn't have detracted from the squad. His performances I've seen for Luton this season he's been a massive asset.

I would file him along side Redmond as not good enough.

We've seen so little of Redmond it's hard to even know!Vino blanco wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:36 pmI would file him along side Redmond as not good enough.
Re: Andros Townsend
Absolute toss wasn't he. Where are all the ones who were saying it was a big mistake not to sign him. Wouldn't get in our squad

Odobert was better.
Koleo is better.
Andros is no miss.

I wouldn't rate either Townsend or Tella as better than Odobert.criminalclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 11:29 pmRaising this again.

Re: Andros Townsend
The difference between signing to meet today's need and signing hope for tomorrow, without the necessary current ingredients in place to help that happen.

Yes the same here, he’s usually involved more in a game then he was last night.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 5:00 pmForgot he was playing to be honest so not sure how he had an excellent game!
