I did see it is the first time ever a lady has been a Ref in prem.
Good luck to her.

Hope there are no VAR calls.
Re: Referee confirmed for Fulham game
Yes good luck to her. Are we on TV to capture it?
Re: Referee confirmed for Fulham games
Ready for pelters ,are we the first professional sport to have an opposite sex as a ref ? and without causing arguments just observations do people think it’s a good idea ,as a golfer I mostly play with guys and find that most guys tend to play with a macho attitude and try to smack the ball as far as they can ,yet the ladies are more considered and tend to play straight and steady ,watching ladies football they tend to be a lot less aggressive and in one another’s faces ,and probably easier to ref ,so obviously depending on the temperament of the female ref will they cope with some of the antics that our so called superstars perform ,or will they have a calming influence?

Tale it you don't watch Snooker on the TV women have been Refs for quite a while.Westleigh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:43 pmReady for pelters ,are we the first professional sport to have an opposite sex as a ref ? and without causing arguments just observations do people think it’s a good idea ,as a golfer I mostly play with guys and find that most guys tend to play with a macho attitude and try to smack the ball as far as they can ,yet the ladies are more considered and tend to play straight and steady ,watching ladies football they tend to be a lot less aggressive and in one another’s faces ,and probably easier to ref ,so obviously depending on the temperament of the female ref will they cope with some of the antics that our so called superstars perform ,or will they have a calming influence?

I'm guessing that she has reffed lots of men's games to a high standard to be given this opportunity. Best of luck to her and I'm sure she'll have a good one. Her man management will be top class I reckon but how her game goes will depend on a lot of variables.

Obviously there are some sports such as Tennis ,but more the exception than the rule I just think that football tends to be a more aggressive sport than many other and needs really strong officials to control the players ( I know some of the current refs aren’t up to it )
Re: Referee confirmed for Fulham games
One thing that stood out for me last season in the championship was the number of refs who really struggled to control the game, even worse than what we had seen with some poor premier league refs.Westleigh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:57 pmObviously there are some sports such as Tennis ,but more the exception than the rule I just think that football tends to be a more aggressive sport than many other and needs really strong officials to control the players ( I know some of the current refs aren’t up to it )
Re: Referee confirmed for Fulham games
I don’t think there were as many players who thought they were bigger than the ref in The Championship.I watched a European game this week and the ref was on a different level ,and he didn’t stand any sort of protestation from the players.

I hope she does well and has a good game.
I'm more worried if anything gets sent to VAR to be honest. Don't rate that bloke very highly.

Re: Referee confirmed for Fulham games
Here in Australia the National Rugby League have female refs. Belinda Sharpe & Casey Badger. Admittedly they only get a couple of games a season, and normally meaningless end of season ones.Westleigh wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:43 pmReady for pelters ,are we the first professional sport to have an opposite sex as a ref ? and without causing arguments just observations do people think it’s a good idea ,as a golfer I mostly play with guys and find that most guys tend to play with a macho attitude and try to smack the ball as far as they can ,yet the ladies are more considered and tend to play straight and steady ,watching ladies football they tend to be a lot less aggressive and in one another’s faces ,and probably easier to ref ,so obviously depending on the temperament of the female ref will they cope with some of the antics that our so called superstars perform ,or will they have a calming influence?

Sue Redfern has umpired men's International cricket though I'm not sure how as she is not a particularly good Umpire.

Is she a refereeess She certainly can’t do any worse than the Aussie clown who reffed us the other week
