That was a hard one to write to be honest. We were so far second best against a decent (and no more than decent) team. We are clearly just nowhere near good enough.

Another great report CT.

Especially spot on regarding the lack of a real tribute to Dyche.

I thought it summed our club up to be honest, to announce the team during the short time he was walking across the pitch was definitely not necessary and looked almost deliberate to me.

Agreed. What a wretched season this has been after the highs of last term

i only watched the first half because of the time difference and because of how poor we were , plus i don't see the point in bringing subs on when game is over .

I never expected us to take the Premier League by storm but I hoped for and expected better than this. Far too often we are just not competing in games. VK said it was about moments in both boxes. If he'd seen what I saw, he'd know we were second best all over the pitch from start to finish. I expect some bullshit from managers, the bloke in the other dugout yesterday was also very good at it when needed, but what he's saying now is stretching it beyond belief.

Its a disgrace tbh, there was hardly any thanks when he left. Apparently no welcome back from Pace and no welcome back in his programme notes.
Dyche really is part of the history and fabric of this town now, Pace has a very long way to go to get anywhere near him in terms of legacy. At the moment hes gping in the wrong direction

No 'beating about the bush' with that report CT. I fully agree with most of what you've written and in all honesty I've been resigned to the inevitable for quite a while. We have too many luxury players who quite frankly are out of their depth at this level. A crumb of comfort, I personally don't think the 17th team will need more than 30 points to stay up this season.

Sadly Tony, we have got another four and a bit months of this. Kompany is like someone playing top trumps and just realising he has got all the weak cards in his hand even though he dealt the pack.
He has royally messed up having spunked 100+ million on the wrong players but is putting a brave face on just hoping that something will click. Even a blind man on a galloping horse can see that it isn’t going to happen.

You could feel that was a tough write but one that reflects the reality of the situation.

This season is done. To get to 35 points we would almost have to match the Europa league qualification season from now on. The bigger issue is the manager's seeming lack of tactical nous and in game management. The gulf between Dyche changing his tactics both the day before and at half time and the almost lack of any kind of response from our management team couldn't have been more pronounced.

It's hard to see where we go from here if the management team cannot honestly assess where we are at and try to solve some of the problems. I tend to think that with Roberts, Cullen and Redmond on the bench the explanations that this is a young team that is going to learn are wearing very thin. Even with the injuries there was the opportunity to play a side better equipped to face Everton than the one we played yesterday.

The one positive is that the players still show willing.

A very sobering match report that brings home the position we’re now in - the season all but over in mid December unless we get a miracle run of form.

An excellent summary of both this game and the current situation. Another weak performance from a poor team. I don’t blame the players, we all have our limits, and most of this squad appear below Premier League standard. The squad, coaching, team selection, tactics and substitutions are the manager’s responsibility and the manager is appointed by the owners. At the moment it is difficult to have any confidence.
Other posters have mentioned a loss of connection with the club and I certainly feel that. However owners, managers and players all come and go and as supporters we must hope that change will happen before too long. As CT will be at Fulham next week so I will be listening to Phil Bird, because once a Claret, always a Claret!

I think it was actually Vitinho's cross which Godfrey managed to take off Amdouni, not Bruun-Larsen's.

A fair and honest report as always. Let's hope we improve for Fulham.

It was Vitinho, I’ve just checked it and will correct on the report. We thought Amdouni had missed a sitter at the time and couldn’t understand why we got a corner.

Seriously? Whos making these decisions, its pathetic. Like him or loath him he was one of the flew local links back to the club and hes very visibly been phased into the background. Its atarting to just feel like a generic Watford type of club tbh. Is there any Burnley fans there at all? It doesnt feel like it

I suspected this was the case when we played at Luton. The cameras didn’t pick up our winning goal (too busy showing replays of their equaliser) and it was also obvious from Phil’s commentary that he didn’t see it either. There have been other situations since and I’ve been told by a couple of people now that he doesn’t actually go to the games away from home.

Thats a real shame. The clip of him at Brighton in the 2nd Dyche promotion season was legendary and it was good to see the players really embracing it too. There seemed to be a great bond through the club back then, which from what im told, was very much the managers doing.
Nowadays, we hardly see anything behind the scenes (bar the contrived mission to burnley series) and theres no real link to the fans through social media either.

If I’m honest, I have no enthusiasm at all about travelling up north to watch us anymore. I still do it though because I can at least have a catch up with my brother, who sits next to me whilst we are meekly surrendering on the pitch.

A good , honest and sobering report.

It really does appear that the club is going in a different direction to what a majority of fans would expect.

One has to wonder how we have arrived at this juncture.

Not as bad as CT says in his report. Of the 17 games played we have only lost 13 not 14.
Number 14 defeat is next week at Fulham and 15 at the Turf on Boxing day.

Good report very much as I saw it too.

Hope your health improves. I managed to catch COVID during the Sheff United game (only place I had been). Thankfully negative now but still managed to cough all the way through yesterdays horror show.

I can only imagine it's where I caught it - was the last time I was out before. I have tested negative but nowhere near 100% as yet.

Hope you get back to 100% soon, TC.

Is this the first time you've had it? My first time was back in 2022, and I was quite rough for three weeks, and it took me another couple to get back up to 100% - so five weeks in all. Caught it again a couple of months ago and this time I was ill for a week, but not as bad as the first time, and I was also back to normal much quicker.

Good report thanks. Would have been easy to replicate what City did for Kompany’s return last season, simple summary of Dyche’s achievements with us and everyone’s thanks for his work. That would’ve been the classy thing to do, but then we can’t even be bothered to read out the opposition team just before kick off or show replays of all goals.

I thought it summed our club up to be honest, to announce the team during the short time he was walking across the pitch was definitely not necessary and looked almost deliberate to me.
It’s been the narrative for the past 18 months Tony. From the “ A New Era” graphics on the scoreboard v Luton, the covert criticism in the documentary and yesterday’s lack of a fitting tribute.

Not surprised by this etiquette to be honest. Think people keep forgetting just what Wall Street financiers especially at the top are like.

I think there’s some truth in his comment. On reflection, we had decent chances to score but didn’t take them. Conversely I didn’t think Everton worked Trafford much either.

But I did think our overall play lacked urgency, speed and directness. I want players like Benson, JBL and Odobert to be attacking the box and they just didn’t do it enough. I’d like to see VK accept that and talk about some of these failings more because at least I’d feel he was getting it and working on it then.

Speedy recovery CT.

It’s been the narrative for the past 18 months Tony. From the “ A New Era” graphics on the scoreboard v Luton, the covert criticism in the documentary and yesterday’s lack of a fitting tribute.
Corporate machiavellianism. It's a really unpleasant part of the game nowadays. Well, by the game I mean the business. Because that's all it is to this lot.

I think this is the worst top flight Burnley team I’ve ever seen. Coyles team away we’re naive but at least we had some home wins!

You obviously didn’t see the team in the “Orient “ season then did you.
