First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
Interesting and somewhat scary that the only direct link to Jay is from Trafford. Amdouni also looks isolated. Brownhill is well overlapped into Berge's position.

As heatmaps go, it's decidedly tepid.

Id imagine we had a similar trend of not really playing into the striker much last season as well, especially when Jay played. He was playing really deep and being used to draw their centre backs out of position to open up spaces for our midfielders/wingers to run into.ClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:08 amInteresting and somewhat scary that the only direct link to Jay is from Trafford. Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
The high position of Vitinho is similar to Maatsen last season, this is why I have said we need to look at a right footed version of him not keep chasing a pipe dream.
A player so far up the pitch needs to have far more quality to create than is being offered at present. Charlie Taylor is more than adequate on the left hand side to sit in and play the more defensive role.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
Larsen's run got furtherst forward in about the first five minutes. It caused them concerns at the back - why did we change from the ball down the wing to being more defensive. We need to attack more or continue to suffer the consequences.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
If a Brian Laws type served this shite up he’d be getting absolute pelters - just saying.
Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
That map reflects what I saw. Agree with the poster about the general shape and a deep J Rod from last season. The midfielders and wingers would have been higher up the pitch though. This system is not threatening in any way with the quality of player we have at this level. It’s naive to think it would be.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
We pass it around like a snooker player who's out of position.
Every pass just seems to make it hard for the receiver.
It should be easy for the players who train for it everyday.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
We just don't have a goalscoring winger/forward to make it work like we did last season with Tella. Koleosho looks a real prospect but he just doesn't get into goalscoring positions. There was a discussion about Cornet on here the other day, him at his best would be absolutely ideal for that role.Boss Hogg wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 12:14 pmThat map reflects what I saw. I think the plan was to have more of a threat from the central strikers this season, but Amdouni flatters to deceive and Foster has been absent so we just dont have enough goal threat. Rodriguez is the only one who consistently gets into goalscoring positions at the moment.
We've been quite unlucky in losing Foster and Obafemi for a large chunk of the season so far, there's nobody else in the squad with their profile and I think we'd have at the very least 5 or 6 more points if they'd been available

When you keeper has had over 1000 touches of the ball, which is 237 more than any other keeper in the PL and is 40th in the full list of PL players for touches, it doesn't take a genius to realise that we aren't going to score a lot of goals with the ball in our own half.

40th in the league for touches is a crazy stat.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 12:49 pmWhen you keeper has had over 1000 touches of the ball, which is 237 more than any other keeper in the PL and is 40th in the full list of PL players for touches, it doesn't take a genius to realise that we aren't going to score a lot of goals with the ball in our own half.
Think the players need to be told that it’s playing it out from the back we’re after, not just playing at the back.
We definitely need to be way more progressive.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
I wondered exactly the same, why did we go all defensive after 10-15 minutes, we let Everton in the game, they scored and from then on we had no threat at all, it was a training session for Everton.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
I'd agree, but the fact there are no lines to/from him at all other than from Trafford shows how little he's being involved.Goliath wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:26 amId imagine we had a similar trend of not really playing into the striker much last season as well, especially when Jay played. Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
Yep but not sure thats really his fault. He links play well when it goes into him, id argue the main culprit is amdouni whos suppose to be creating that link but is happy wandering around doing not very much most of the timeClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 1:59 pmI'd agree, but the fact there are no lines to/from him at all other than from Trafford shows how little he's being involved.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
Be interesting to see last seasons heat map with Muric and Tella.
Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
Everton finally got the ball after a while and had an attack. Once they had us that end they didnt really let us escape much and just overwhelmed us physically.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 1:14 pmI wondered exactly the same, why did we go all defensive after 10-15 minutes, we let Everton in the game, they scored and from then on we had no threat at all, it was a training session for Everton.
I think it was they who actually started really slowly and passively whilst they got used to their new system

If Jayrod had passed to Odobert and Vitinho a couple of times the heat map would look like the Atomium in Brussels.

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
Is it any wonder that we're overrun in midfield when you see that
heat map ? Brownhill should stick to his own role and leave Beyer to
get on with his. Midfield was like the Mary Celeste at times.

Sums up the fire football being dressed up as passing. Passing between the back four, for no purpose is just the pits.ClaretOfMancunia wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 11:08 amInteresting and somewhat scary that the only direct link to Jay is from Trafford. I thought Brownhill was hiding. Now I know where he was, stood behind Beyer!

Re: First half passing heatmap vs. Everton
That heat map perfectly highlights our issues.
Tippy tappy crap at the back with our quality of players is probably the easiest style for opposition teams to defend.
IMO it’s almost the most risky style of play as well, if you lose the ball in these areas more often than not it’s going to end up in the net.
That heat map is a real cause for concern. Time for VK to change it this weekend
