Ripped socks

Post by groove » Sat Dec 23, 2023 10:06 pm

What's with the ripped socks? A number of our players today have their socks torn at the rear, on the calf muscle. Is there any particular reason for it?

It makes them run faster. Like when homer put speed holes in his car.

And what’s all this with players these days wearing “trendy” black boots?

I’m sure the manufacturers could come up with something, perhaps a thinner slightly elasticated sock around the calf area. They look awful all these torn socks.

On the subject of football attire, I noticed a few players wearing snoods in training.
Dyche would never have allowed that.

They're not really socks these days, more like leggings (reminds of that naff fashion in the 80s for 'ankle warmers').

One of the early users of cut socks was apparently Mason Holegate!

I thought it was to reduce chance of cramps in the calf.

I think Dyche ‘softened’ off in his later time at Burnley as gloves etc started to appear in training and in games.

I spotted a video on twitter the other day of the Everton players arriving at Goodison for the Fulham cup game with players wearing headphones. That was something he publicly stated he would never allow his Burnley players to do.

They aren’t even sock nowadays, they are split at the ankle.
It is all some weird fashion thing. Same for these tiny shinpads and wearing your socks or whatever they are down at the ankles, both started by Grealish.
Football is a fashion parade played by spoilt w@nkers these days. They have to out do each other by having more holes, smaller shinpads and having their sock sleeve things lower and lower. Oh and having multi coloured boots. All a load of bull, but this is what happens when you pay 20 year olds 100k a week and tell them that they are gods and are the best in the world. They become delusional.

I bought a pair of last season's socks. I have big (though admittedly not muscly) calves and the socks are plenty roomy enough. The players must be wearing kid's sizes.

I wear mine for playing walking football. I have 'muscly'ish calves and I have to wear my shinpads outside the socks! They are skin tight.

I’ve had holes in my socks for years. Usually where my big toe pokes through. ☺️
