Mr Jones has a habit of getting things wrong at the City Ground.

Re: Motd
Jones is horrific but it also highlights the need for a second yellow leading to a red to go to VAR. I think he was the ref at Leeds for off when he got 99.9% of things wrong. He is the poorest ref in the PL imho

I’ve only been half watching it but they seemed full of praise for TAA in the Liverpool game - didn’t I see him miss a great chance to win it when Liverpool had about three men over on a counter attack?

Luton at Bramall Lane on Tuesday, great chance for them, they look good (though Newcastle are burnt out).

Loved McNeil when he played for us but is it just me that thinks he has really stepped up a level in the last few months?

Shock horror, playing with better players makes you play better.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 11:35 pmLoved McNeil when he played for us but is it just me that thinks he has really stepped up a level in the last few months?
I think it's the manager who's stepped up a level, and now doesn't have McNeil just running up and down the wing like a headless chicken.

But what if the 2nd yellow is correct, and the 1st was wrong. Do you check every yellow? Or just go back to review the first if they also receive a 2nd yellow... And what about the yellows that are an accumulation of things, rather than a single event? Could just scrap VAR

Ive no idea but if it were true i think youd have about 15 prem teams queing up for him so i doubt it.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 11:31 pmthere were a few Luton fans on the radio a couple of weeks ago saying he was only on a 6 month contract and they were concerned he'd be off in January given his form. I can't find confirmation either way
If hes available on the cheap hed be a very good addition for United. Id be surprised if they werent sniffing around Solanke at Bournemouth as well

But by playing with better players the opposition back off him, for us they surrounded him.

Re: Motd
That does sound like a logistical nightmare tbf.
I think, personally, the only way we’ll ever see a review for a yellow is if they introduce sin bins - like rugby.
And that wont happen.

Re: Motd
If he'd have had any other manager than Dyche im not sure hed have made it. Always had wonderful technique, but never looked too have the natural stamina you'd expect from a young player, still doesn't tbh. He's always absolutely blowing but having Dyche on him constantly has made him into a very good PL player.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 12:03 amHe looks a lot fitter now, at the that age where your body has grown as much as it can naturally.

Re: Motd
Dreadful performance as usual, no doubt the red card will be overturned but that doesn't give back 67 minutes of the game on equal footing. Surely something has to be in place where the VAR can say "Mate you have a sick hair cut but that was a terrible decision, never a second yellow, overturn it and get on with the game"Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 12:56 amAgreed!........He thinks it's all about him. Re: Motd
I think it can be overturned. If it was a straight red and backed up with VAR then I don't think it can but I think they can ask for the second yellow to be rescinded and just add one yellow to his disciplinary record.
Really hope so because that was as bad a decision as Ben Mee getting wiped out and Ash scoring from the rebound and not getting either a goal or a pen from it.
But same clown in charge and seems to be one of the preferred ones these days for top games along with Paul "I can't make a decision to save my life" Tierney.

Re: Motd
The big problem with Jones (apart from him mincing around the pitch and struggling to keep up with play) is that on the big and crucial decisions he never gives himself any thinking time to assess the situation. He's simply not learning or not being pulled up on. You watch him he does it virtually every single game he's in the centre for and he's been doing it for years. It's quite a simple thing to correct too but Jones seems incapable of unwilling to correct it!

All ifs and maybes about making it though. Plenty of great footballers struggle under certain managers.
Even Le Tissier wasn't played by one Southampton manager because he didn't run enough.

Re: Motd
If this VAR technology is there to assist the ref and ensure the correct decision is arrived at, why then put restrictions on the issues where it can be referred to?

Been thinking the same thing recently. Good for him. Put in a lot of hard work with us and didn't always get the recognition for it. On McNeil, of course he was younger with us and came in and was suddenly playing a lot of top football in a short time. I suspect he was still physically developing and it told. He's now 24, fully developed and we are starting to see the good player that he is pretty consistently.

Yep he looks a far more mature/confident/experienced player who now has players around him which are probably a level above those he played with at Burnley.Burnleyareback2 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 23, 2023 11:35 pmLoved McNeil when he played for us but is it just me that thinks he has really stepped up a level in the last few months?
