Re: Wilson Odobert
I’ve said for a while, I think he’s the one who we can get the most money from. Even if we go down, I think we could potentially keep him and a year tearing up the championship may be good for him.
Re: Wilson Odobert
Just turned 19, 4 goals in 6 starts?
Yet he was being written off on here as not needed and a waste of money, given absolutely zero time to adapt and develop by people on here who want everything immediately.
Give this boy (and many of the others) and he’s gonna be some player. This team is improving, Everton game aside.

Totally agree with this. Some of our fans are very quick to judge, without looking at the complete picture.

We bought a lot of excellent individual talent in the summer, but we've really struggled to make it a team.KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 1:36 amJust turned 19, 4 goals in 6 starts?

It takes time obviously, but I still think we made too many changes to last seasons team, too early.
We have picked up a lot lately, but those wasted points against Palace and West Ham could end up being so costly.
It's just nice to think of football with a smile on my face, there has been very little of that this season.

Reminder to all fans that mercurial talent needs to be on the pitch to produce and develop.
What it does show is those that’ve said we’ve wasted money in the summer and that we won’t be able to sell them for what we paid is completely wrong. We’ll make massive profits on most, if not all. We may go down but there is no need to worry financially.

All the young uns we need to keep for at least another season, you all know how players at that age develop at different rates, especially when they've moved to a new country.

This is a thread giving praise to a promising player - it doesn't take away from anything else like the fact that to make large changes to a team and try to get it to click in the PL can end up in disaster, or having a lopsided squad is daft; we're just lucky that another 3 teams in this league are really **** this season.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 9:21 amThe OP wanted to hook him at HT.

Never had an issue with signing a few youngsters and slowly bedding them in.
You can play 'gotcha' if/when we are out of the relegation zone and put on regular competitive performances.

This is why it's an outrageous gamble having more than half a team (we had seven in our starting eleven yesterday) of no Premier League experience and expecting them to compete.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 5:20 amyou only have to look how long it's taken for Dominic Solanke to figure it out, people are so impatient nowadays, symptom of society.

One interesting thing I hadn’t realised is that Troyes are in the City Group of clubs.
I wonder if Kompany was recommended to buy him due to his potential due to that avenue?

Lovely goal! Good footballer and only just turned 19. He’s taking his chance. Well done him!
Re: Wilson Odobert
Its this kind of thing that i was getting at in another thread about about our scouting. Kompany will have so many contacts within the game that he probably feels us having a few scouts going to random games around the world isnt going to worthwile when he can get information from his own networks.jedi_master wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 11:45 amOne interesting thing I hadn’t realised is that Troyes are in the City Group of clubs.

The problem is that when he leaves it sounds like we are going to be left without much of a scouting network

Can question some of the gaffers decisions whilst supporting the players! Not mutually exclusive. Can’t see any/many that wrote Odebert off anyway?
I like him - I liked how he chose to sign for Troyes as well for football when he could’ve easily signed a new deal for PSG and sat in their reserves for 4/5 yr

Re: Wilson Odobert
Players go through phases of blamming them in from 25 yards. Cornet had a good spell a couple of years ago. Cornet's current market value if the web sites are to be believed is less than we paid for him.
Unless I'm mistaken two of the three wingers who played yesterday are on loan.
But the point is, his forward play wasn't particularly impressive other than the goal. Did we really create that much...? Probably not...!
In truth, the more impressive part was that he played his part in a midfield four against a decent midfield 5, which after Bruun Larrsen went off controlled the midfield and the tempo of the game pretty well. I was pretty impressed with Odobert from that perspective.

Don't forget we also use the owner's AI Scout tool to create a list of potential targets who have positive value enhancement numbers. I suspect this is the list that Kompany is allowed to choose fromGoliath wrote: ↑Sun Dec 24, 2023 12:04 pmIts this kind of thing that i was getting at in another thread about about our scouting. Re: Wilson Odobert
I wasn't at the game, couldn't watch it but still felt bloody sick last night. As said by a fellow Claret on the Fofana signing thread, we could have signed Haaland and I'd still be feeling utterly depressed.
However, Wilson Odobert is a beacon of light in our sea of darkness. It's not just his cutting in and shooting. He also knows he has to get to the by-line and pull it back. He seems to be doing this more now.
We paid £10m for this lad. He's still only 19. Yes, he's intermittent but if he was pulling up trees every week, he'd be the new George Best.

He is excellent, he’s a work in progress off the ball and he’s getting better but to be 19 and producing the levels he is doing week in week out, he’s one of the ones I would be most gutted about if we have to cash in on him in the summer
Re: Wilson Odobert
I read an article in the Athletic earlier about Fabio Carvalho’s loan move to Hull, and how it might be a wake up call to youngsters that it can be better to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond than vice versa at that age. He jumped ship to Liverpool and a year or so later has downgraded where he was at (Fulham) to Hull. Point being, I hope we can keep him too!123EasyasBFC wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2024 2:41 pmHe is excellent, he’s a work in progress off the ball and he’s getting better but to be 19 and producing the levels he is doing week in week out, he’s one of the ones I would be most gutted about if we have to cash in on him in the summer

Re: Wilson Odobert
Hes good when one on one with a full back but yesterday he proved himself as another one that doesnt want to do the hard running thats required. There was acres of space in behind their wingback for him to make runs into and offer a passing option instead hed come backwards and wait for it to come to his feet which was sometimes not on. So wed end up going back to the keeper and putting ourselves under pressure.
It made it very difficult for us to play out because we just didnt have the option in behind enough, it was pure laziness and its disappointing to see, too many in this team dont like sprinting. They jog back into position, stay in their shape, jog out to press and when we do get the ball they look for the ball to feet and offer no penetrative runs, barring Foster who works his balls off.
Someone compared him to Cornet in this thread and thats the big difference. Cornet was a natural goalscorer in that he would make those penetrative runs over and over again until he got one. If he didnt get the pass he wanted it didnt stop him, hed keep doing it. I think hed have been a good signing for us this season but that ship has sailed
