Re: Keep the faith
Most pundits are tipping bottom three Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United to go down - but there have only been three seasons where the relegation zone has been the same on 25 December and the final day.

If we go down then so be it… but what I would really like to see is the smile well and truly wiped off Klopp’s face today.

Re: Keep the faith
Much is made of our transformation with Berge taking over Cullen’s role.
Foster’s starting games also warrants some attention.
Home - City, Villa, Spurs, Chelsea - ok, 4 defeats, but top sides on their day (when Chelsea turn up as they sometimes do)
Away - 2 wins, 1 draw (which would have been a win but for Darren England shocker), 1 defeat. I’d be surprised if that defeat at Brentford Lyle was 100%, in that he was out immediately afterwards.
So my conclusion is that if we can get all our key players playing, we will win plenty of games and may stay up comfortably.

Re: Keep the faith
We basically need six wins plus a few draws to stay up.
The home games against Wolves, Fulham, Brentford, Bournemouth, Forest & Luton plus Sheff United away are the ones realistically available.
Unless matches like today can spring a surprise.

Re: Keep the faith
Let’s not lose our heads and spread negativity if we lose today, let’s have a little perspective, we’re playing against arguably the best team in the country at the moment.

Re: Keep the faith
6 wins and 2 draws puts us on 31 points which won’t be enough. I’d say 7 wins and 3 draws at the very least starting today.
Re: Keep the faith
We look a different side completely with Foster and Beyer starting at the same time.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Tue Dec 26, 2023 10:16 amMuch is made of our transformation with Berge taking over Cullen’s role.

We'll need seven wins and six draws to get to 38 points.
Or six and nine.

Re: Keep the faith
With the way things are going we might need sixty wins, rather than six.

Re: Keep the faith
No team has been relegated from the PL when winning 11 games, that should be our target

Re: Keep the faith
If we get the chance to play top half teams when they are out of form like Luton and Forest did with Newcastle then my faith will be stronger.
As it is now I still believe all is not lost even though it’s been an incredibly difficult first half of the season to experience

Re: Keep the faith
Not too long to wait. Our next opponents are in shocking form, drawing 1-1 at home against bottom club Sheffield United and then losing 3-2 at Old Trafford having held a 2 goal lead. Manchester United had only beaten one top half team so far this season (Chelsea who were in 10th) and in 5 of the other 7 games failed to score a goal!Elizabeth wrote: ↑Wed Dec 27, 2023 3:10 pmIf we get the chance to play top half teams when they are out of form like Luton and Forest did with Newcastle then my faith will be stronger.

Re: Keep the faith
Christmas is the time for shocks, hopefully the Fulham game was a early stocking filler rather than our main box under the tree.
The obligatory "would take a point before hand" statement but would bloody love a third away win to keep confidence high and that table tight.

Re: Keep the faith
Said it before but I think our physical prowess will let us down,we put up a good show in the 2nd half last night but I think a team like Luton would have caused the Scousers more trouble than we did if they had managed to get to the last 20 mins still only a goal down.
