Didn't he get a goal and an assist the other day?

Re: Toon v Forest
Toon look like a team desperately short of confidence. Their defenders look scared to make a tackle; constantly backtracking without actually making a challenge.
No doubt they will have found their feet by the time we play them, in May.

Re: Toon v Forest
Said it before, seems apt...
As for the comment about him downing tools once he knew Newcastle were in for him, that's frankly just absolute drivel.Enola Gay wrote: ↑Fri Feb 17, 2023 8:55 pmThe team was built around Wood when we had Brady and JBG fit, firing and creating chances, and I don't remember people criticising him then. He suffered more than most from them being unable to stay fit and not be replaced/upgraded.
For me what lessened his effectiveness was our later tactics of using him as a battering-ram/head on a stick/delete as applicable or having him chase Westwood's nonsense no-look garbage down the channels, which seemed almost perversely designed to get as little out of him as possible. Going straight from 20/21 to the Tokyo Olympics to the 21/22 season didn't help either and for a lot of that season he looked absolutely shattered.
As for the 'comfort zone' comment that's boiled so much **** on here... we'll he's right, isn't he? In the absence of any meaningful contributions from Barnes or Rodriguez from 20/21 onwards, if Wood was fit or even within shouting distance of it he played. You can try and push yourself as much as you want but he was under virtually no pressure for his place.
Good player, tailed off from 2020 onwards. Far from the only player in that squad to do that and he wasn't any worse last season than most of the others.

Re: Toon v Forest
This season Chris has started just 6 PL games for Forest and come on as sub in 11 games, one of which he was on the field for just 6 minutes and scored the winner.
In total he has played 641 minutes and scored 7 goals with 1 assist ---none of them were penalties.
Equivalent of 7 games plus 11 minutes and scored 7 with 1 assist ---do we have anyone who has done this this season?
A lot of our fans didn't appreciate his value to our team, not just as a striker but also as a very good defensive player, particularly against set pieces.
Newcastle fans were the same with their lack of appreciation, however, he played a big part in their staying up when he left us. They had conceded 43 goals in 20 games before he went there. In 17 appearances that season they conceded just 20 goals and scored 20, three of which were scored by Chris. His defensive work played a very big part in their improvement with lots of aerial duels won.

Agreed Ashington - I think it’s that odd bits of trickery tend to stick in the mind for some folk and all the ugly stuff goes under the radar. You’re absolutely spot on in your summary.

Good player for us Chris Wood.
Is that two Premier League hat tricks now?
Cant be many poor players who do that.

Re: Toon v Forest
Absolutely.
He’d downed tools WAY before that….
Did a job for us tho to be fair. Looked half decent at one point, but let’s not kid ourselves he’s a good player. He suits a particular role, that’s it.

Well done Chris Wood. Excellent hattrick. A simple pass would have given him 4!
